Unique Alaska Bull Moose Mismatch -A Five Year History
Many of you know Mismatch; this magnificent bull has been featured in many of our videos and photography.
We have been able to document him for five consecutive years, and this is the pictorial/video story during those years. Mismatch is unique in that he has a damaged right pedicle, probably from birth, but he has managed to produce huge racks/antlers despite this deformity. In 2018 he lost the entire right antler (and also his left brow tines) in a fight that we never witnessed, but we were able to photograph the damage when we came upon him a day later.
Warning: Some viewers may find some scenes disturbing. Just saying...
As of this posting he is still trying to rid himself of the last stubborn strands of velvet, but he will soon be sporting clean, bone-white antlers for the cows. And we had a little fun with this one...hope you enjoy.
Thanks for watching our channel, the husband/wife team of Rick and Libby Libbey, (Libby squared), New Hampshire wildlife photographers (and part time Alaska.)

What an absolutely gorgeous animal. You created a wonderful story of a truly special moose.
Thank you, he deserves a story, he is a gem and an interesting bull. Appreciate the kind words!
Gives me a lot of respect for Mismatch. His not fighting but trying just to live his life quietly injuries and all 👍❤
Absolutely right. We so love him and especially watching him sneak around the periphery of the other bulls’ territories to hopefully snag a cow is fun. When he gets busted they just let him off with a little warning. But this year he’s more ready to play. Stay tuned! More Mismatch to come! 😊
Beautiful footage of MisMatched. To follow him through his life and share it with all of us , THANK YOU ! ❤️😊👍
Thank you Sue! We thought his story worth telling. There’s a special place in our ❤️❤️ for this bull. Much more of him to come. Up close and personal. 😊😁❤️
Ohhhh my God i envy your life!!!!! How magical 😍 Moose are beyond supreme. My absolute fave being alongside trees. Moose + trees= heaven. You guys do such beautiful work.
XO and thank you to both Rick and Libbey,
Sadie from Holderness, NH but relocating to Errol ❤
Errol!?!? That’s moose country!! Cool! Holder ness is beautiful but Errol ic back to nature. Awesome! 👍😊
Ohhhh he is truly special, definitely touches my heart. He's been through a lot. I have to wonder if the regrowth of the antlers year to year causes him pain on the side where the trauma/injury occurred. One things for sure, he's a fighter for life and perseverance to keep going. Have to respect him for declining an actual fight ever again. Such beautiful footage and stills you have of him, tell Mismatch he has a fan in Southern Illinois 💗 Thank you for sharing!
Mismatch will be glad to know that someone in Southern Illinois is in his corner. He’s such an awesome moose and his story is captivating. We truly believe the other dominant bulls respect him. Much more of this awesome moose to be featured here so stay tuned! Thanks Kat! 😊❤️
@@MooseManNaturePhotos will do looking forward to seeing more😊
Доброго дня. Отличные кадры. Смотрю ваш канал с удовольствием🤝👍👍👍
Спасибо! Мы очень ценим это! Thank you!
I really enjoyed his easy going attitude and he had an impressive crown.
He was a prince of a bull with a very impressive rack that was somehow compromised through birth and that nasty fight. (The right pedicle seemed nonexistent.) We sorely miss him. He was an anchor up at that end of the valley. Along with 22. Now it's void, just like Grumpy's empty footprints. SIGH! Apparently Mismatch was a fighter in his youth, or so we've been told. He sure was mellow around us, though.
Thank you guys. Always great.
YW, B1B. Thank you!
Awe poor strong guy. He is fortunate to have survived with being blind in one eye and all. The natural world is rough. Has he successfully mated with any cows? Was that really his son?
That has to be his son and despite never witnessing him mating, we have no doubt that he’s successful due to his clever means of working in and around the other bulls’ territories.
Nice tribute to a great animal.
Thank you, we never know when it may be the last year we see him. We figured we'd do him some justice with this 5 year history. Appreciate the comment.
Beautiful
Thank you and thanks for watching.
Beautiful video compilation. A wonderful subject and stunning background. Overall a great tribute in the life of an Alaskan moose.
Thank you very much. He’s an awesome animal. And there is much more of him to come. 😊
What an amazing story ~ can't believe how difficult it is just to be an animal sometimes.
Was thinking about the design flaw in elk/deer antlers, for example: seeing bucks locked together with the worst ending. At least moose don't get locked together, but it still seems like a brutal existence for essentially peaceful creatures.
Thanks to you guys for loving these animals and for noticing the differences in their demeanors. I'm sure it's impossible not to care for individuals... great photography and narration.
Merci! ✨🙋📸🦅🦌🐿️🍃
Poor guy had a hard life. He did very well even with his injuries. I love him.❤❤❤😢
He did have a hard life, Tricia. And once he was gone the valley felt very empty. We miss him. 😟💔❤🩹❤
Mismatch is so special - I hope he doesn’t get into any more rut fights from now on - he needs retirement now.
He’s fun to watch, he’s smart but he’s still drunk with hormones. He kind of stays to the periphery to sneak a cow from another bull. When he gets busted he just whines his way out of a fight. The bulls always let him go, they recognize a white flag. Pretty smart!
He needs someone to take care of him.
I feel the same way.
