- At the risk of attracting no views whatsoever, this episode deals with the low register, specifically pedal tones. I explain how, why and when pedal tones are used in the Brass Tactics 6/60 Routine and demonstrate each pitch down to double pedal E, more than two octaves below the lowest note on the trumpet according to the range charts. From here, there is nowhere to go but up!
THE BRASS TACTICS 6/60 ROUTINE
This video is the second in an ongoing series in which I discuss and demonstrate the exercises that comprise the Brass Tactics 6/60 Routine, in the process covering many of the fundamental aspects of sound production on a brass instrument.

This is the second episode in a new Brass Tactics series, and the first demonstration relating to the exercises in the Brass Tactics 6/60 Routine. Please leave a LIKE and a comment or question--I try to respond to all of them.
For anyone on the fence about purchasing and using the 6/60 routine I encourage you to buy it. I started using 6/60 in Feb 2023. Since that that time my endurance, range and focus have improved. I suggest also that you read the foreword and afterword before you even play a note of the book. Doing so will answer many questions you have and of course the videos are a wonderful resource too.
Thank you Chase for helping me get myself back in shape and improving too
Sounding excellent! Terrific lesson!
Amazing how attractive low notes are at this stage, Dennis, no? :)
I love the comment about pedal C: "it's like double high C in that it's hard to play... and has limited musical value".
... a dozen Maynard fans heads just exploded? 😅
:)
Are the exercises in your book adaptable to horn? Thank you!
Absolutely.

Do NOT understand the importance of these very low notes on the TRUMPET. In other words: Why should I try to play these very low notes on my Trumpet?
The two primary reasons for me are to relax the lips and keep them supple, and to extend the low register beyond where you are required to perform. (The same philosophy applies to practicing high notes.)
