- Step by step on how I go about creating a realistic stylized drawing using my go to materials. The tutorial is very basic and covers all materials and techniques used.

Thanks for watching!
My boy sees the world in a much different way than most people. The impressionistic way using negative space is next level.
I really appreciate this kind of art than hyperrealism.

me too
same
yes real artist , real skills
What you said at the end is really important. I remember I used to work in an art gallery with some old and famous paintings that I'd spend a lot of time looking at. When I'd look at the details from very close, they looked odd e.g. pearls were simply grey dots with a crude white dot in the middle. But looking at them from far away, my mind made me see the white dots as shine.
I've been aiming for hyper realism for years now, but lately I've been attracted to these type of artworks and they honestly seemed more enjoyable, quicker and eye catchy. I tried it 😂 but from someone who's used on keeping details controlled, it's so hard for me to draw the way he did. It's just really weird and amazing at the same time😂
I relate to every word you said, too! 😄🤗
They feel in a way more natural to the eye. And they allow you more room to feel and imagine. They beg you to understand them just a bit more in their abstraction
I have just started drawing and sketching at 59 years old into my 2nd month and love it but may i say of all the videos and techniques this is my favourite by far. I love it
The struggle I’m having is training my eye to see proportions and values as effortlessly as you do. I still use the grid method as a way to get my proportions right but I hate being dependent on that
I find that looking away frequently from my drawing helps a lot (I have a tendency of leaning way too close and so I get really focused). I was also taught to not look at the paper while you're drawing on it--the key is to fix your eyes on your reference or model, and glance briefly at the paper every so often. It takes a couple tries but it really helped with my proportioning after a bit of practice! Also, another tip that someone gave me is to work with smudges, not lines, because the lines (e.g. pencil lines) automatically make your eye focus on it and you can lose concentrating on the face as a whole.
Learning to trust my instincts and forcing myself through a piece helped me a lot personally
I think knowing skull anatomy would help a lot. Once you get used to it, you will see the skull bones through your model/reference image, and this will help you in the overall proportions. Give it a try.
Next stop is perspective and that is probably the hardest to do..
@@megancartwright1351 This really helps. Thank you!
Watching you create makes me want to get back into art. You must have worked hard for many years to reach this level of ability. Thank you for sharing your talent.
I did try this style of portraiture and found it to be so amazingly fun! Have to work on perfecting it, but with your help, I can continue to learn! Thank you so much!
Beautifu! I have never heard of pan pastels but have got to try them. What an awesome way to block in large areas of value.
I've never explored charcoal drawing before, but I'm excitedly getting the hang of it.
So great. Amazing to see how at just about any point you could have stopped and it would have been a great piece of art
Best tutorial ever! I’ve only dabbled in charcoal but now I’m inspired to continue on. ❤
Josh. You are an inspiration to me. I am a portrait artist. I work with oils and pastel. I am good at it but I want to be better. You truly are a master artist and after watching you, I have decided to take up doing portraits with charcoal to speed up my progress. It is a lot of fun as well!
Go for it!
You are one talented man! Had you stopped halfway through, it still would have been amazing!
Learned ALOT ...you made the LIGHT appear effortlessly
Thank you so much for making this video, I’m just now starting to work seriously with charcoal and this really helped. Also, even for non artists, this is just beautiful.
great artwork...
I know you I love you I watch your videos and don't worry I am a boy
Hello sir
U r also great brother
Hello sir✌️
Mexican priiiide
Incredible..just beautiful.
Black and white!!
Sick dude. I'm definitely getting back into charcoal. It's such a great release of stress.
I work very similar. Just some terms for you and your viewers. There’s cast shadows and shadow shapes. Cast shadows, for example, are let’s say one’s brow casting shadow over one’s eye from your light source. Shadow shapes, for example, are a cheek bone. Like you mention, squinting is key and plotting in the beginning stages. Which I call architectural or structural lines. Personally, I love seeing them left behind as a slice of drawings evolution.
been a while since i used charcoal..
i think im gonna bust out the set for my next work in honor of Peter..
something about what you said in drawing the eye towards the center would really drive home my idea..
thanks
This was a amazing video. I've been wanting to work with this coal for a long time. I been trying to get back into drawing after years of not picking up a pencil. So watched your video while picking up some tinted charcoal pencils I still had and followed along. I could hardly believe what I was creating on paper. I could hardly belief what was slowing appearing on the paper before me. I didn't think I had the skills to pull something like this off. Specially not after only drawing in a manga style for 9+ years. I'm so happy I found your video. It has given me the confidence that I can do more than I thought I could.
Man in real time less than 10 minutes you made this beautiful drawing. Wow!
Wow..love how it suddenly pops out of the page!! Love
Wow. I've been trying to learn this Art style from photos and short clips. I love it. Please make more tutorials like these. Please. 🙏❤️
This really explains in visuals the way the human brain adds details that aren’t there. Brilliant, thank you 🙏
Your word of wisdom, so simple yet so important
Omg I am so glad I found this. I am learning and your art is the most fascinating.

love this image, nicely done. I never thought to use pan pastel before. I really wanna try this now. I love how you get the loose directional shades with it. feels detailed, but it isnt. Exactly why I love charcoal so much.
Every age has their Leonardos, Michaelangelos, our age has Mad Charcoal doing beautiful works.
Great job explaining the importance of values.
Light and shadow rule.

so glad to find this channel. Even the early part of this drawing are awesome
Immense talent and technique. Absolute prodigy. 👏👏👏👏👏 Josh Hernandez 🌟
I am so glad that I came across you on tiktok, you are truly amazing at what you do!
fantastic! I love the use and guidance of light & shade and to see (or feel) basic shapes rather than lines and more lines followed by a few more lines! Many other RUclips drawing videos seem more suited for an architect or cartographer than an artist!
MAD SKILLS, AWESOME MAD SKILLS
Really enjoyed watching this. Thank you.
yyou're an amazing inspiration, I've been noticing that my artwork seems to not lok very good enough and you stating we should focuse on building the foundation of a drawing is just inspirational, thank you. I think this was fate for me to hear this from you
