Last year I saw trees infested with the black fig fly in a local San Diego nursery. I’ve been using fly traps that keeps their populations down.

Unfort this is beyond CA. Nursery and collectors are spreading it all over but CA commercial farmers are the only reporting.

im in carlsbad, my fig tree and i only own 1 is a complete loss for the last 3 years. pretty much gonna rip it out this winter

Can we use CRISPR to modify generations of BFF to have no wings? Then, control could be approached simply by applying a round of tanglefoot on the main trunk (and preventing branches from touching the ground). I know this is a highly scientific approach, but if it means saving an entire industry... What's the harm in trying?
