Thanks to you, being the same age as myself, I am slowly taking steps to hopefully RVing at least part time. I love your philosophy of not letting fear stop you as well as not waiting on anyone else to make something happen for you when you can make it happen for yourself. So just a big TY for encouraging so many of us to take baby steps at the very least to obtain what makes us happy at the end of the day.

Hi, Carolyn I had mice in my RV for a while just like you and I could not get rid of them with humane traps and also with snap traps. They would take the bait on the snap traps and I used cotton from the tip of the cotton swabs to catch them on the snap traps, but had to set them where my kitty would not get hurt. Finally, I came across a RUclips video where this lady used ammonia soaked rags to get rid of rats and mice from her garage. I used ammonia soaked cotton balls and paper towels and placed them in all the places where I found their droppings away from my fur baby's reach. I got all my supplies for under $5 at The Dollar Tree store. Hope this helps

My BFF lives up in the mountains in OR. Talk about mice wanting in when the weather turns 🥶. She bought a couple of battery operated mouse zappers. Put a bit of PB on the bait area and turn it on, mouse goes in and basically gets electrocuted. Not squashed, no poison to be concerned about. They are great!

Peppermint oil seems to have been the most effective for us, so far. One thing that really made a difference was following the advice that a little bit of oil isn't going to do it. I out about half a small bottle over a couple of handfuls of cotton balls and/or cheesecloth, soak overnight, and then put out. I think I'm going to need to do that about twice a month in the winter.

Looks like you tried everything to get rid if these pesky mice, so well done for thinking about using the tissue to keep them on task longer. I admire that you don't give up! Much as I adore all animals, when it comes to mice they have to go because of the damage that they can do. I had one in the van during the summer and found out that it had come up through an air vent beside the water pump. As there was a label next to the vent saying do not obstruct, I turned a small sink sieve upside down and screwed it to the floor. So far there has been no sign of more.

A brilliantly simple idea to wrap the nut butter in tissue, first! Thanks for that tip, plus all the others. What a stressful saga, Carolyn! Oh, and, as another commenter suggested: expanding spray foam-- preferably with steel wool embedded in the gap before spraying the foam-- is another great gap-filler and mouse deterrent. May you be...mouse-free!
And may our country be freed from the dangers and menace of ITS various rat's nests ;- ) .

Yea glad you got them all. I lived by a corn field and would get mice, steel wool did good they told me also that the steel wool cuts their feet and nose and makes them back off. I had trouble with them taking peanut butter and leaving to. I finally put a piece of cereal in the middle of the peanut butter and when they pulled on it it would snap. They liked Captain Crunch and Fruit Loops I had. HA![ I know you want to be humane about it but if its between damages to your home or electrical or them they gotta go.

You want an RV cowling latch. Easily found online for a few bucks. For your drain, consider a mesh sink strainer. Hold it in place with adhesive velcro so that if it’s some kind of drain or release it can still function. For your ceiling holes, the hardware store lighting section will have round blank plates used to cover the hole when you remove a light fixture. You could glue in place. Good luck!

I feel your pain! I've struggled with answering because I don't want to jinx myself! I solved an issue with a rental property I own but never had an issue with 2 RVs in 5 years.
I've had 100% satisfaction with ultrasonic plug ins.(use in each room)and a ultrasonic, with flashing light, under the hood of my vehicle that attaches to the battery. Both were purchased on Amazon. I will throw a LUCI solar light under the RV at times.
A bad ass golden retriever dog that passes her day under the RV and chases away anything, "in her yard" when not catching her ball or hiking. This girl can CLIMB!! At night she's the great orange huntress. Just had to do the proud mom thing...
Dry washes in the desert are bad. Desert rats live under bushes, come out at night and love to chew engine wires. The steel wool is a deterrent because mice use their whiskers to "feel" their way around. Rodents prefer to follow walls and other rodents urine patterns. Keep other outside stuff away from the RV so they don't have cover. No need to trap and move them 2 miles when you can move! Wear a mask and gloves when cleaning up DONT vacuum their feces. The lung diseases mentioned comes from their feces .8)avoid cool climates in the fall. Store food in glass containers. Rodents love dog food.I store mine in a Home Depot bucket with the sealed lid.
You might try the plastic circles meant to cover holes in drywall For the hole in your ceilings. A few dollars at big box stores

Kudos on the paper, Carolyn. What an elegant solution to use the paper. Here is an additional tip directly from the Victor website:
"Place the trap wherever you’ve seen signs of rodent activity or along the wall where rodents like to travel. THE BAITED END OF THE TRAP SHOULD BE PLACED FLUSH AGAINST THE WALL."
Placing the baited end flush against the wall does make a difference. I've waged many a war against mice and was surprised to see the the placement flush against the wall did make a difference. They little buggers are forced onto the trap to get the bait.
    Good Luck!!

I'm glad you got rid of the mice. Mice can carry diseases. Helpful hint with the snap traps... you can make the trap more sensitive by slightly squishing the trigger flap. You have to experiment on how much squishing it needs so it still holds the "arm" but takes less pressure to trigger. As for the hole in the ceiling you could use some creativity and make a sun or moon or bird to cover it to make it look pretty.

This year has been the worst with 🐭. Our backyard is all woods...so we usually get 1 or 2 in the winter but this year we had 7 in one week. I first thought it was because our 🐱 passed away...but several neighbors are having issues to. We put mice pellets under the house and put glue traps under the kitchen sink, back walls in bathrooms, 2 in laundry room. We caught 2 on the same glue trap in one bathroom then replaced that glue trap caught 1 more, caught 2 under kitchen sink, caught 2 in laundry room. All this in one week...haven't had anymore issues since first of November.

Irish Spring bar soap. I’ve never had mice and heard from several people that it helps repel them. I cut a bar into 3rds and place under sinks & near slides. Also the steel wool you used. Careful,..that steel wool is flammable with electricity. You can use it for fire starter is survival situation so probably best to keep away from electrical joints. (I;’m sure there’s a how to video if you’re interested.
FWIW: I’ve found the snap trap is best as well. I’m on the same page as you when it comes to killing anything. We gotta do what we gotta do though.

With the steele wool you need to go thru your whole home and cram it in EVERY HOLE no matter how small you think it is and would look like it would not let them in. Even sizes small enough like 1/2 of a dime. As far as zip ties no go. You need to really cram it in the holes. And I live in a mobile home and it worked for me.

I found that I was better off buying Brass scrubbers found at a Dollar Store in bulk. Larger gaps I use rolls of tight screening fabric. Stay on it and realize they want warm places such as the engine. You certainly don't want the chewing mice to affect your vehicles wiring. Best wishes.

It's such a bad year for rodents! I spent way too much time trying to relocate them, but in the end. they won. I had to start using traps. An experienced ranch worker told me to tie a whole peanut to the trap with a twist tie. The rodent will have to work to get the peanut out, and will trip the trap. It's a bummer for those of us who respect critters, as I know you do, but the human survival rate for hantavirus is 50%, and I don't want to escape COVID just to succumb to hantavirus!

Over that bottom drain, to keep it open to drain, after stuffing with the wool: a square piece of mesh butt up against the opening and bend the corners up and secure with a zip tie.

This is definitely the year of the mouse or kangaroo rat. We've been here for 10 years and this is the first year of problems. Best wishes at your end and remember that they can squeeze through a space smaller than a dime. Steel wool is a good filler, I've done Great stuff, that expanding foam, around pipes. Whatever you use you have to keep checking it.

Wow! You sure went through a lot of 'heck' trying to get rid of those! If I would have known that it was that bad I would have suggested the bait stations! You can get them at any Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Menards, any hardware store & they're cheap! Cheap! A HECK of a lot cheaper than those electric ones you paid for. They're enclosed & refillable (they just snap closed), so they are safe for pets (don't leave them out in the open if you think your dog is going to chew them up to pieces - put them inside cupboards & compartments) Plus they are as humane as I am going to be when it comes to those darn terrorizers (the mice). They chew up everything! Who knows what they have chewed up inside your walls?! And that hardened poisonous food that you use to fill those bait stations, just dries out all of their body fluid. They just dehydrate & die! When I became the "Mousinator" at my sticks 'n bricks, I also shoved every single nook & cranny with steel wool. I even went around the entire house & stuffed the seam between the baseboard & the floor as well as where the baseboard meets the wall with steel wool & then proceeded to caulk over that seem. I did around the door frames, the window frames, behind the plug outlets & light switches, I actually spread that steel wool over the back of the air vents, secured them with tape & caulked around the moulding of the vent coverings as well, the transitional mouldings on all the floor surfaces, where the pipes come into the house, under the sinks! Ev-Er-Reeee little crack, opening, & seam that I could think of! And you know what? Not a mouse in the house after that - ever! It was a fully furnished basement, with 2 stories, a 6 bedroom house with 3 bathrooms & a workshop . . . . you get the idea! Yes, it took a lot of time, a ton of hours! But!! I mouse proofed that house once & for all !! I used to spray hot sauce regularly around all the baseboards & vents as well & use the clove & peppermint oil, but it didn't really seem to get 'rid' of them permanently. Bleach burns their eyes & noses, so they stay away from that. But again, you have to continually keep the sprayed surfaces fresh with those deterrents. Once they dry, they're useless. The smell or any sensation that affects the mouse is gone. I would still get those bait stations, keep them in your compartments & shove one up in that hoe in the ceiling until you get it fixed! Oh, they also hate chewing through tinfoil. Both the tinfoil & the steel wool cuts up their entire mouth, but tinfoil isn't quite as practical. But it will do in a bind if you run out of steel wool for a short period of time.

Had a rat the other night. In the arizona desert. I heard it trying to chew in through the doghouse. I came unglued. (had a rat damage my wiring four years ago and I don't play. I got a hammer and pounded where I could hear it to try to scare it out. I only had bleach that I sprayed all over the engine, on the tires and around my rig. Then I found a recipe for home made rat poisin and mixed it real good in a plastic bag and hid it under a rock by a bush that was near me. No more problems two days since. I am not into any kind of cruelty and love animals but a rat or mice can really mess things up. Strand you even.

Go to an RV salvage yard or an RV repair store by a light even if it doesn’t work just screw it in so if anyone looks it just looks like a light or a vent cover for an air conditioner or go to a hardware store and get one of those little graded vent covers and put over it purely cosmetic

Yeah, mice. I am not a full time RV'r, but have had issues with them in my camper. Definitely go in streaks. I like the white plastic mouse traps, they go under the name "the better mouse traps" The bait is put on a paddle like mechanism. They are very sensitive and have only had bait taken if it is a very small mouse. I also like the sticky strips. When we return from camping the traps and sticky strips go out . It is a never ending battle for sure. Since I grew up on a livestock farm and still live in the country I have no compassion for mice or rats. I let em live, as long as they are not in my house, camper or vehicles. During winter storage I put pans and trays everywhere with cedar chips, and of course traps. Some people use a product called "cab safe" which is designed to put in agriculture equipment to deter mice. I store RV's on my property and my customers all use a variety of devices and options to attempt to keep them out during winter storage. GOOD LUCK! with the battle!

You had me smiling! I hate mice. Always having a dog the poison was out of the question. The snap traps work very well. They are economical so I buy lots of them then they get tossed with the dead critter! I don't have the stomach to re use. I'm glad you finally got them all.

Peanut butter is by far the best bait for any trap. I’ve also had great success with the Victor brand Power Kill rat trap, about $3.50 each at Home Depot. It’s plastic but uses a very strongly sprung snap trap similar to, but much better than the old wooden style snap traps. It’s intended for rats but I’ve also gotten mice. Good luck.

Don't know if you recall but I told you about my hitchhikers from Wyoming. Had a friend told me about solar lights but they were motion detectors. Placed them under her van and engine worked like a charm. Any thing that came within distance it scared them off. Of course using other methods in combination helps greatly too. I can feel for your distress I hated it!! Take care and be careful Traveling Grandma

We had a rat in our house. Did the mousetrap route, even had cats! The rats laughed at us. Ruined a dishwasher and stove. Contacted an exterminator and worked with them for awhile. Rats still laughed. Finally called the city vector control. They came out and said there were no place for them to get in. So, we set another trap, but this time at their recommendation we put the bait out for a couple days without setting the trap. The bait was always gone. Third day we set the trap and caught the little bugger. Had to replace appliances and water lines. It was a nightmare. In the end we got him! Congratulations on your tenacity! Carolyn 1-mice 0

When I see your video of a mouse eating a piece of cheese I don't think if it eating food.Whenever I hear mouse(s) in my RV, I start visualizing ithem eating the wiring in my RV! Some did and also built a nest in my generator! and my cat shased it across my bed at night!
I bought some "stainless steel" wool ( won't rust out from being under the RV), also metal screens if ihave any necessary air holes, and expandable foam to plug up deep holes. Peoermint oil sounds good too. Some people cut up bars of Irish Spring soap. I never use the mice noise units as I figuire it will bother my cats ears.
After the SS wool and expandable foam, and I drove 200 miles, the mouse(s) disappeared!

We had a rat in our house..omg I nearly lost my mind. I have an extreme phobia. Thank God my husband figured out where it was coming in and out. He fixed that and then we checked the entire house inside and out, I had him fix any possible holes and every single possible crack. I was a wreck until the problem was fixed. What a nightmare. I couldn't sleep. It literally occupied my mind constantly. So I definitely understand your situation and I'm so glad you were able to fix it, and your self. You go girl!!!! Girl power!!!

Cheap hole cover, how about Velcro strips. Stick/sew the hook side around the hole and sew the other woolly side to a piece of material. Stick one to the other, light weight won't fall off.
