  • Just explaining my experiences over the years with the two single disc torque converters that I’ve bought vs the triple disc units.
Also I forgot to mention it in the video, but it’s highly recommended to go with a billet input shaft if you go with the triple disc converter.

Iv been building transmission for 30 years my 01 second gen has compounds lots a fuel , ported head fire ring. All the above, now that being said, I have ran a super single billet convertor for 15 years mild towing but hard driving to. They will not last anything over 450 to 500 hp. But they will do fine if used correctly for a little time. Triple is the way

I been trying to figure out a way to make the 96-99 47re to lockup in 3rd on its own like the 2000-2002 trucks shift 3rd lock than unlock than 4th lock. I agree with u on that its nicer for everyday driving. It has to be in the pcm programing i just dont know how to go about changing the program settings. Another thing that drives me nuts with the 1996-98 12v is that they shift way to early compared to the 24v's. The 24v's hold there gears way longer in the rpm range. it has to be in the pcm programing.

Yes the automatic 3rd gear lockup is really nice. I feel like the dealer might would be able to flash the pcm to make it happen on the earlier 24v’s but I’d bet they can’t do it for a 12v. It definitely helps, especially when towing. And yes my 24v doesn’t short shift near as much as my 12v’s do. It’s definitely nice towing

I remember all the discussions way back when about how a single is better ect than a tripple disc i spoken to Dave and he told me how the tripple worked .I put up with the crappy stock automatic and convertor worked till it failed . I installed a g56. ..if i had went with a automatic no chance i used single... ..i was told harsh shifts can break parts . Thanks for the video😢

The triple disc can definitely have a pretty firm lockup, but you can massage it to not be so violent with valve body changes. I sure do like the firm feeling it has when it locks though. It is a little bit of a trade off, the single disc is smoother and less chance of breaking other parts, but you dont have to worry about slipping the triple or easily over powering it with more modifications. Everything has a trade off for sure. Thanks for watching!

I like goerend stuff to i use tons of there stuff. I dont like a single disc either. But u can make them hold power u have to drill 2 holes were the 4 land spool vlave is. It will lock up really hard but will hold the power.

I have the holes drilled in the lockup circuit on mine but it will still shutter the converter in overdrive. Im probably going to have to plug the holes back up for this triple disc, im afraid lockup is going to be really rough lol
