Did they ever say exactly what caused his passing? I know that a fisherman found him but haven’t seen what the complete autopsy report was?

Imagine the depth of knowledge Mark was carrying in his head on the rail routes across America, and thousands of places to camp, to buy food, find storm shelter, and to meet with friends and fans. He was an amazing individual.. Always humble, always sharing.. Prayers for his family and close loved ones.

I did a fair amount of hitchhiking back in the early to mid 70's when I was young, but never thought of jumping a train. My long trips were from my hometown of GR Michigan to southern California and back. ....twice.
I have a pile of interesting stories and came across some *VERY* interesting people. The most notable was John Wayne's nephew, who 'buddied-up' with me from California to Chicago. Even though he obviously had money (he was catching a plane to Europe from Chicago), he wanted to see America 'from his thumb'. He was pretty cool, but didn't want people to know about his relationship with his uncle. (He produced a photo of the two of them, arms around each other with beers in hand, so I didn't doubt his story).
We damned near froze to death in Cheyenne Wyoming. We found out later it was because a hitchhiker had robed and knifed a local man a couple weeks before we came through, and nobody would give us a ride! _If it wasn't for the 'somewhat' heated rest area building on the highway? I'm sure we would have perished during the night._
Who knows! If youtube was a 'thing' back then? I might have video blogged it all.
Every time I share stories with my family, they tell me I should write a book before my 'father' calls me home. .....but I probably won't.
Sure wish I would have spent a little time with 'shoestring' before we was called home! Looks like he was pretty cool.
I enjoy the 'looking for a train' as much as the actual riding. Nice Mark Chestnutt rendition too!!

I hope he knew how much we truly loved him. My heart was shattered. In the back of my mind I knew that lake would be his demise. It happens all too often when people get sick and disoriented when a body of water is around.

28:03 That's a 1969 or 1970 Chevy pickup. 1971 and 1972 had the grid pattern grills with the Chevy bowtie emblem, rather than the bar grill that says "Chevrolet."
Bonus tidbit: An easy way to tell a 1971 from a 1972 is to look at the inside rearview mirror. 1972 was the first year they glued the mirror to the windshield. Prior to 1972, the inside rearview mirror in those trucks was mounted to the cab ceiling with a bracket.😁

Again ride on in peace Mark I won't say bye because that is forever and in the end I'll hope to see you up there again. So peace for now .
