Czech President Vaclav Havel has arrived in Britain at the start of a 4 day official government visit.
The former dissident playwright, accompanied by his wife, was the guest of the
Queen and Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace before talks at 10 Downing
Street with Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Buckingham Palace was the venue for this special lunchtime meeting.
The Czech President Vaclav Havel, was in London on the first day of an official visit to the United Kingdom.
He was the guest of the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, and was accompanied on the visit by his wife.
But the whole trip had been in doubt right up to the last minute.
After a U-S trip last month, Havel looked tired and had breathing difficulties, raising suspicion his visit to Britain may be postponed.
The 62-year-old leader fought off a life-threatening case of pneumonia in August and had an emergency surgery for a ruptured colon in April.
It was not the first meeting between Havel and the royals - they paid a state visit to the Czech Republic in March 1996.
So Monday's visit was a chance for them all to renew their friendship.
Havel has a busy schedule in the next few days.
On Tuesday, he flies to Belfast and on Wednesday will travel to Glasgow to receive one of two honorary degrees.
He will be given the second by Oxford University on Thursday.
After his lunch of sea bass, partridge and sorbet with the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, Havel was scheduled to go to 10 Downing Street for a meeting with the British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

0:50 - I thought I heard someone straining in the toilet.
They are not British subjects, they are equal to the Queen,
He should have waited for his wife... 🙈
Over zelous
Mr Havel has so far been the most influential Czech president. A moral icon, and a respected statesman. When compared to his successors Klaus and the current president Zeman, Havel had helped to build the Czech Republic's name whilst the latter two have helped to ruin it.
Most influential Czech president? What about Masaryk? You know that Zeman and Klaus are well respected politicians? Zeman especialy for his strong anti-immigration opinions. Havel's teachings spawned the most spineless group of people we have here, thank God they are a minority and Zeman is a president.
I think that Zeman in good president you have truth the Klaus was a very bad president he was only fucking SHIT!!!
re milo dvorak - Who gave you this naive illusionist Havel it was the greatest evil that the Czech Republic could meet ... 90% of the Czech nation did not find it ... It was a set of snowflakes ... an alcoholic pimp and "a country traitor" ..
+Samuel Paulo La Costello Zeman publicly offends individuals and groups of people who hold a different opinion to what he says is right, he is not afraid to speak his mind in a manner that would be hardly acceptable at a pub. The president's role in the Czech Republic is to represent the country; not to play chess with it as he does in foreign affairs when he mingles with Putin and Xi Jinping, making for example Czech police to pull out Tibetian flags off some homes and schools during Xi's visit -- in a free country. The same was done with South Korean Samsung's advertisement flags. Everytime Zeman goes somewhere, he casts the wrong light on the country he's pledged to represent by acting as if the greatest enemy was the EU by praising China and Russia (the latter one has damaged this country a lot). Now I don't wanna make it political for this country is a Parliamentary republic meaning his powers are rather limited; I wish to state that I find his manners absolutely selfish and arrogant. Havel's on the other hand were by far superior for he didn't offend people for their views, he acted as advised by Parliament, and that is to be expected from a Czech president. Besides, Havel has in thrle West's eyes become an icon of liberty in the former East bloc; what have Zeman and Klaus become?
Regardless, my initial argument holds still: whenever you talk to (influential) people about the Czech Republic, it's Havel that comes to their mind first, not anyone else. And the fact that there is a bust of him in the US Capitol means his name has some moral value. That's something Zeman could never ever achieve in a free democratic country.
Krása.
Havel FOREVER
hail forever

Far-right politicians meeting, what else left to say? That mrs Havel looks like a sugarbaby?
What do you have against him ?
Sládek se dostal ke královně. To bylo ostudy.
Do grcu! Nech je mu letisko ťažké, naškodil sa ten kulisácky ochlasta dosť.
Havel - nejhorší prezident.
