Thank you for showing this. I will probably never see it in person but it may be one of the few reasons I’d travel outside of the U.S. I’m so thankful for all of those who have served to fight for our freedom. We truly live in the last free place on Earth and it’s because of brave soldiers like these who gave their lives to keep it that way.

Thanks for this amazing video. I would love to get to the Canadian cemetery and Juno beach myself, being Canadian and having served in the military(well reservist) definitely something that I felt proud doing even if I never fought in any wars or got to do peacekeeping duties. I've been rewatching Band of Brothers on Netflix myself.

I'm actually in Normandy currently. Got the ferry from Ireland in my Skoda Enyaq (great charging infrastructure here). Staying near Port en Bessin. Was on Gold beach and into Arromanches today to see the Mulberry Harbour. Will go to American Cemetery, Carentan, St Mere Eglise, Dead man's corner and Omaha beach on Tuesday

My Grandfather and great uncle fought in WWII. My Grandfather, Grandmother, Dad and Uncle were at Pearl Harbor and my great uncle landed on Utah and his stories of what he experienced for the rest of the war was incredible. I say great thanks for this episode Dave.

Dave and Kathy I've been waiting for you to post this video. I cried like a baby listening to the national anthem and seeing the grave markers. The ultimate sacrafice. God bless. 🇺🇸

I’ve been there twice. It’s very moving. That was really The Greatest Generation! If all Americans could spend 15 minutes there, they may appreciate our country more.

Great video. We were at that same site one year ago. Very moving. The day we were there, it was pouring rain and wind. The guide said it was similar to D Day weather. I can’t imagine what those soldiers had to endure. The Greatest Generation.

My mother's first husband was killed on 12th July 1944 during the battle for Caen, and is buried locally there. A member of a now disbanded Liverpudlian regiment, attached to the Somerset Light Infantry. I have to search that out at sometime. 🙏

I was there just a few days before you. It’s a breathtaking place and a fitting memorial to all those brave men and women who gave their lives for the freedom of others.
If you go again, the British Normandy Memorial is about 30 minutes to the east. It’s equally as moving, with hundreds of pillars engraved with the names of all those who perished in the Battle of Normandy, including my Grandad. I took my Mum there in 2022, it was the first time she had ever visited her Dads grave.

What a wonderful tribute to those who strived and served from all of the Allied forces to end the evil that was Nazism.
Visit Utah and Omaha for the US , Gold, Juno and Sword, for UK , Antipodean and other forces.
Have a look at Dan Snow's Videos on the campaign for a view on the whole event.
Don't forget that the whole campaign pivoted around a UK weather forecaster who laid his career and thousands of Allied lives on a weather forecast to enable the Action. What a burden.
One can only hope that current conflicts don't escalate to something requiring similar resolve and sacrifice.

Thanks so much for honoring our veterans. My family has served going all the way back to the American Revolutionary War, WW1, WW2, and Vietnam. I'm proud of that history but I must remind people that there are no true winners in any war. Innocent people on all sides suffer great loss but in the face of not acting against evil, things like the Nazi death camps would continue to the point of total genocide and no freedoms.

Nice to hear the US national anthem being sung properly with respect, as opposed to the all too frequent murderous screamed versions heard at football games etc.

Two of President Teddy Roosevelt's sons are buried there. One died in WWI the othe other died of a heart attack shortly after leading his men on the landing.

I wouldn’t be here if not for this war and the US involvement. My Grandmother meet a US soldier, married him, and came to the USA to escape the conditions in Europe at that time.

Such a petty and inappropriate comment given the subject matter.. Some people have too much to worry about.
