- Take your songs from the studio to the stage, by exporting stems from Ableton Live.
In this video, I show you how to export your song in "stem" format from Ableton Live. This will allow you to take songs you've created in Ableton Live from the studio to the stage and build a live set with your exported stems.

6:44 I'm ashamed to say I've been individually exporting sends and master FX for YEARS. So glad I found this video!
Also, Dither is the intentional addition of Noise to an audio file when downsampling. It cleans up any artefacts that are present when downsampling and should only be used when going from a high to low (i.e 24 bit to 8 bit)
I’m so glad Ableton added that feature! Makes life soo much easier!
Great vid, easy to understand and very helpful. Thank you.
Bravo! Grazie!
Thanks for this, been looking for this type of info for months. So difficult to find info on live performance setups. Frothing for more ;) cheers
Glad you found me! More content than you could ever imagine: ruclips.net/user/fromstudiotostage
Thank you so much
You're most welcome
I'm a noob at this, but finally making the jump from studio to stage. Time for Ableton to replace band members who abandon ship or show up unable to play. Let's say I've recorded my tracks into Ableton, mixed the tracks well enough, but haven't started any effects on the master. Do I want to export these new stems with mastering effects and/or panning, etc.,, or is that something I'll do when I assemble my set later in the template? (Just trying to process my workflow.) BTW, Will, your videos are fantastic and inspiring to take these risks out of my lab into the world.
When you exported your stems, was sidechaining active? I want the sidechaining effects to be featured in the stems.
So if we’re uploading the song for leasing, do we include the return/master effects when doing individual tracks or do we leave that option off.
It seemed like you were saying to use it, but then you turn it off when you exported it.
When the ''include return and master effect'' function is enabled, rendering takes a VERY long time! 50 times longer than regular rendering. Please tell me how to get rid of this problem?
I have a question. I'm trying to get stems that are all the same lenghth (possibly adding silence before or after my sound clip) so that I can bring them in another software and play with them without having to adjust the timing. Is that possible with live? So far when i export all individual tracks, it exports wav files of different lenghts.
You can freeze and flatten your tracks and move from the recorded folder if need be.
How do you manage volumes when your source files came from different sources? I'd like to keep certain instruments in the same track area but I have some songs where the guitar was sent to me much louder than other tracks.
Check out my video on how I manage volume for live performance. That’s why I use sends and returns and group songs.
Do you recommend to export all stems with effects and returns for live performance if it's electronic music?
I think it depends on how you want the music to translate live. If that helps the music come across-then yes!
If I sent my track to a friend while using the 90 day trail would there be a problem with them opening it in another daw? I hit export master at 16 bit but the file doesn't open for him. I believe he uses FL studio
you can save and export during the trial, but you lose that ability after 90 days. If you're having issues with the export you'll have to experiment with the software and figure out why it isn't opening.
Is there any way i can export stems with group effects as well?
did u find out?
i support content creators, but one that grinds my gears is when people need an 11 minute video to explain something so simple...... you didnt need 11 minutes to explain this
Carl-I'm so glad you're here! Thanks for watching and hope you know you're loved and have an amazing purpose!
AT-Glad you watched the video and took the time to respond. Have an amazing day, you're loved my friend :)
this guy noobed it, u want to export 24 bit not 16 bit
It’s all context my friend. If you’re exporting stems to use Live there is zero reason to export at anything other than 44.1/16. If you do, you’re taking up precious space on your computer.
This is from studio to stage, not studio to mastering engineer.
thanks man
Thanks mate!
You're welcome!
