It has become part of my daily youtube viewing to see if anyone has added their reaction to this amazing song. Everytime I see a video of someone watching it for the first time -yes there are those that fake it- I feel like I'm hearing it for the first time.
Excellent reaction! You should check out the band's performance of this song on Conan. David Draiman was sick that day, yet he still delivered a live performance for the ages; complete with an orchestra. Paul Simon reached out to the band after that performance and congratulated them. Conan celebrated the video as it became the first video from his show to hit 100 million views. Keep up the great work.
It was a great song, I truly enjoyed it !! Thank you so much
Me too, Anthony. I remember the first time S&G sang it. Not long after, I left for Vietnam. David Draiman's version hit me hard.
Don't forget it got a Grammy award!
David Draiman....Disturbed's lead singer.....a voice to die for! A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion and back on a dime. He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful tonal properties to it! An awesome talent and obvious training to deliver what he does!! Can sing like an angel or the devil ! Loved your reaction and your take on David's performance. Good job! Try "The Light" and "The Night" by Disturbed too.
Paul Simon said this was as it should have been written been written and performed by.
He actually linked this song onto his official website.
This is one of the few times a cover is an equal to the orginal.
Yes !
Cover is even better
...or better imho
Radio Tapok's cover of Sabaton's Attack of the Dead Men is pretty good but that was something of a unique situation (depicts a rather... brutal battle during WWI so yeah, Viewer Discretion and all that)
BETTER!
I love that you didn't interrupt and just enjoyed. Good job
This version takes ahold of everyone. David’s passion is amazing. This originally was a Simon and Garfunkel song written and performed in the 1960’s. A classic and the message means even more today!
Disturbed have reached the parts other bands have failed to reach, with Probably the best rendition Ever! WOW!
The True meaning...Back in the 60's...was a time of War, Discrimination, Racism, blatant fundamental Civil Rights worthlessness far worse than today. One could NOT speak out without major consequences (like being threatened of your life for speaking out.) Comedians could get away with it in sarcasm, and through music, the "messages" could not be stopped...In that time communication was very bleak with only fuzzy radio, and fuzzy tv...that's it...So when musicians (Bands) became very popular/famous and millions would hear...They became powerful and a serious threat as influential to the masses to change, by demanding equality, freedom, revealing hypocritical religions (neon God they made) etc...The population always knew music's truth...but remained silent out of fear, of retaliation, disfranchisement, so no one dared (other than fans stereotyped as hippies and Blacks that did protest and riot against the establishment for change)...Musicians (bands) were always broken up due to their mass influence, through suspected mysterious ways, from death of a featured performer, to plane crashes, overdoses etc..by breaking them up in ways equal to that of "looking like an accident"...The biggest protest amongst humanity, (in that time mind you) was the technology of people talking without speaking, and hearing without listening (the seeds planted as you slept...but one's eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light that split the night...(and your life)... removing the true sounds of silence, considered free will...People were sent to nut farms and destroyed for voicing aloud of so...Although it does fit differently today with texting...The writing on subway walls was like tenement halls in that time, it was very much like bumper stickers, or hallmark sayings...with lots of WISDOM and common sense that came from the poor and oppressed and was their only way to speak out truths in protest...In spite to stop the messages of truth in war through music...it will always survive to carry its messages that remain and echo in the wells of silence... see the official version...
Music that moves you
Check out the vision on Conan O'Brien , your brain will explode
It's an Experience!!
This has become a standard for the band, always expected at their live gigs!
David and his brother were classically trained singers. He turned to metal and his brother is an opera singer.
Paul Simon said he wrote this after a dream and the meaning is still argued about.
The video I feel talks of the rediscovery of lost music. One island find the sheet music, the other find the instruments and travel to them...
Paul Simon saw THIS very performance on Conan and loved it...

This is the best song, video and or cover these past 5 years... BRAVO!!! Spread the word!! Now you're ready for the "live" Conan version of this song!! \m/
hey fam blessing to you
It really is a powerful song! And the video is so good. I agree that its an emotional experience. Great reaction!
Thank you for doing this... such a powerful song and I relived my first experience with it through you
She just got woke!
it's Simon's 1964 warning about technology... the neon God=television... today it's the phone too
Yes he's had that piercing for a long time , saw them op-ed for stained and godsmack years ago he had it then also
Good reaction, sister. That voice is a force of nature!!!
It really is!
Bring it on sis, you look so cute🥰
Thank you 🤗
One of the best songs ever
I have seen almost everyone reaction this song and words are amazing.
I sit all evening watching reactions to this song. I watch their eyes, I notice them rubbing their arms (chills) and wait patiently until their senses return enough to comment.
Good reaction! Looking good girl!!
Thank you!! 😁
Suggestion: listen/watch this again with headphones/buds. You'll be immersed in the music and his voice just...reverberates. If you're not interested in experiencing this particular video, the live version on Conan is - on my opinion - better than this, if you can believe it. Just wow. Regardless, listen to it with something in/on your ears. You won't be disappointed.
Great job... 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks 🔥
Great reaction, awesome
Glad you enjoyed
First time hearing from the I would definitely look him up
Fair warning, Disturbed’s music is usually a lot heavier than this song lol.
The original was a warning about people not listening to each other and speaking without meaning. A warning, but with hope.
This cover is much more powerful because it expresses the anger that the warning was not heeded.
I get choked up every time I hear this version.
I hope you'll check out some other songs by Disturbed, starting with probably their most famous song, Down With The Sickness
I'm also a big fan of System Of A Down and Jinjer. For SOAD, check out both of their new songs after a fifteen year hiatus - these are important for bringing attention to the current genocide in Armenia.
For Jinjer, I love all their songs, but I'd say their most important right now is Home Back which is an anti war plea, read the lyrics either before or while reacting to this one.
You think these are lyrics about "people not listening to each other"?
This is an absolute song about abuse. Did you even listen to the song? This is a song of silence, after abuse. Shhhhh.
"A vision softly creeping left it's seeds while I was sleeping". The vision still remains.
I could go on, but I won't.
@@rc3394 Thank you for pointing this out to me. I think so many lyrics can be about abuse whether intended that way originally or not, because our predominant society is so rife with abuse. Take care.
@@MLuxemburg Literally, the first stanza states "...a vision softly creeping planted seeds while I was sleeping.....". And the vision...still remains. This used to be a song about keeping silent about abuse, sexual, mental, physical. It still is, I guess because people keep on keeping silent.
What the hell you all think it's about?
great reaction
His performance is amazing! His voice, inflections and that emotion are goose bumpies worthy.
There is a change happening in this country. The folks from depressed socialist countries know it bcos they know the signs. We are turning into the evil they left in their country.
To me it's what this song represents. Shutting people down. Stopping conversations. Building their neon gods bcos they forget what religion is like; they've been kept from church so long, and they now honor the state! You can see the words of the prophets, not in the bible, but on subway walls...someone has remembered them!
Maybe the boat going from one shore to the other is bringing people back together, like it should be!
Creepy, I know. But it's the feeling I think I know what will happen to us if we don't wake up.💔
You should try Armata Strigoi, by Powerwolf
Mein Herz Brennt (piano version) might need a lyric translation since it is in German
Dave sings in 3 registers, but he mastered all 3. Some other singers did it, but not like him!
This is better than the original by. Simon and Garfunkel ...David Draiman has a phenomenal voice
The original (many years ago) was written and performed by Simon and Garfunkel and sounds much different from this cover. I prefer the original, maybe because I'm nostalgic and love their harmony. It is softer and a bit sad, but this version seems angry.
a few people have said the Simon and Garfunkel original was a gentle warning and Disturbed's cover is the rage filled warning because no body heeded the first one
It was the era. JFK was killed. The war. The hippies. Aka liberals. Many songs from the time. The eve of destruction. Or the needle and the damage done. We seem to heed the a little bit late. The damage done.
Listen to nessun dorma Luciano Pavarotti
That was a cover to this original from back in the 60's, so not sure you were aware, here's the link to the original by the original artists, ruclips.net/video/NAEppFUWLfc/видео.html .
Thank you soo much.
To be honest I hated the original. Too bland and milk toast for me. I am a metal head at 66 years old. Disturbed has some great music so decided to see if they could make a boring drab song better. Dang strait they did!!! The voice control and emotions are spot on. David does so well it gives me goose bumps and a tear or two. Great review! Thank you! A'HO 💚
Song has about a billion views and all we get is a unenthusiastic.. wow.
1st off...u could get a much bigger screen for us to see what you're seeing. Your tree is nice, but a bigger screen is more important. Thank u.
Thanks for the tips!
Don't you have a lip pearcing on at the start. It looks like there are teeth at your upper lips
yea you need better sound if that is they way you are hearing your music you are getting robbed.
Can’t react to you’re reaction. Sound is so low. No chance of hearing this. Peace out👎🏼
