Jerry and Linda, thank you for taking the time to meet up and talk lithium golf cars with us. We had a great time with you!
I bought a lithium battery golf cart which gives me at least 60 miles which is plenty far enough for one day. Plug it in at home and next day, ready to go. We have a feature which I did not hear referenced. Our cart included a rearview camera which operates just like aa car rearview camera. Quiet is nice! Lithium warranty is 100% replacement if the battery fails.
That was a great video. So many grumpy comments about electrics not having enough range for The Villages. I can’t see traveling more than 50 or 60 miles in a golf cart on any given day. Just charge each night and you will be a-ok.
As an owner of a lithium cart I love it. Excellent acceleration and extremely quite. I’m told by The Village Golf cart sales people that Yamaha is coming out with a lithium battery cart in their 2023 models. To alleviate any mileage anxiety choose a lithium battery of at least 180 amps. 50-60 miles on a single charge. Excellent show.
Yes, Yamaha did release their Lithium Model for 2023; however, the only battery size available is 105 amp hrs. This got us roughly 28-30 miles. Hopefully we have more/larger available options available next year!
We are so thankful that a loaner was provided while we wait for our golf car to be delivered in June ❤️
Hey Jerry! Hey Linda! We ordered our 2022 Yamaha gas golf cart early December 2021 from The Villages Golf Cars - we are expecting to pick it up next week. Long time coming.
The lack of charging stations and that different models don’t have a universal charging port would be a deal breaker for me. Everyone is on the electric band wagon but for me there are significant drawbacks. Nice video. 👍
Loved this! Yes, we love our Ez-Go electric cart …. Super quiet and quick! We have had it over 2 years now without any problems …. Battery life is awesome. Nice to hear you mention us …. And Jake really enjoyed doing the gas vs electric cart video for you! Love our super star RUclips friends!!💕💕 y`all the best !
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you folks
we purchased our electric cart three years ago and it is still going strong, and it has air conditioning, heat, power steering, brakes and windows, we love it. they didn't mention anything about A/C, huh
I have watched this video more than once to learn as much as I can as we prepare for our relocation to The Villages in a year or two and purchase a golf cart. Any chance you could make a video on their service department covering items such as: scheduling appointments, checking in, services they offer, approximate costs, suggested service increments, a quick look around the service department, etc.?
Thank you Mark, we will try.
Good summary of gas vs lithium battery. Seems to me, still not enough range on the lithium battery to make it worth while.
I have another perspective....we bought our home in Rio Grande and it included an older electric Club Car, a 1993 DS model. The electric motor was replaced 3 years ago, I have replaced the lead-acid batteries (($1000), seat belts ($200) and the controller lever ($300). This cart rocks! You would call it "vintage", yes. But it has dramatic acceleration, I can go 40 miles on a full charge and it is comfortable to drive/ride in. We looked at the lithium battery option, but at $3000 it seemed like that was a lot to spend over the lead-acid option for the limited additional benefit it gave us. I have always been a used vehicle kind of guy, so I have a comfort level with driving an older cart for the time being. So please everyone, do not be afraid that lead-acid batteries are dead, and long live lithium...
We love our 2 electric golf carts: Pinkberry 72v EZGo and Bumblebee 48v. Thank you Jerry&Linda for this informative video. Cheers.
Those guys know their business; great you brought it to us all!
We signed a Purchase and Sale in April and bought a used Yamaha from TV Golf Cars the same day! We pick up both May 12!!!!! Kathy at TV Golf Cars is great!!
Very informative, they had some beautiful carts in there. However, I’m not a fan of the electric carts knowing I’d have to replace the battery 8 - 10 years. Which could cost almost 1/2 of a new cart. That’s why I haven’t purchased a hybrid vehicle yet. I typically keep my cars well past ten years.
Lithium batteries can go past 10 years of life.
And a full set of batteries only cost around $1000.
Great show Jerry and Linda!
I've got a joke for cute Gizmo (I hope I spelled his name correctly). What kind of cat's go bowling? The answer is ...Alley cats.
Thank you so much for the updated information on the golf carts along with all the personalized touches. Enjoyed the show as usual.
Great information! Thank you for asking all the specific questions
Great show guys… thanks for the educational support… I’ve been driving electric autos
for over 5 years now … and love it..different way of driving.. for the better, for the same reasons . Lower costs pre mile, very low maintenance costs, low charging costs,
smooth, quick, quiet, super fun to drive.. one note on batteries.. don’t stress about replacement costs now… enjoy driving now.. tech is changing so fast in the ev space
prices will come down… fun fact.. lead acid batteries weigh 87 lb. each… X 6 =522 lbs.
1 lithium battery… 105 lbs. 🤪 looking forward to seeing a new video about you
trading in the “ bumble bee 🐝 “ you won’t be disappointed 😉
😁😁😁😁😁
Enjoyed the video and comments. I have followed developments in electric batteries since the 70s. Better batteries are coming that are cheaper, lighter, have a longer range, recharge faster, and last at least twice as long. Don't know how soon, though.
Excellent show! We ordered a 2022 Yamaha which will be ready in early June. We considered electric but were concerned about range living in South of 44.
Best cart made!
Morning Jerry and Linda. Trade in the golf cart. Guess accustomed to seeing yours Jerry. Rarely see Linda’s. Love the yellow. Yes. Buy and service in the same space same people. Oh. Electric and lithium carts. It’s a new day. 6-9 hrs to fully charge and it’s about 250miles/full charge. That’s great. It’s a different day guys. This is a wonderful informative Vlog. Gonna stop commenting and really pay attention. Thanks so much and see you next video.
Great Info. I would still have to go with a gas cart. Especially after hearing all the pros and cons.
Wish Greeley was a golf cart city!! Gas$$ echo! But wonder how they'd work in cold snowy weather.
We have a Star Sirius electric cart. We love it. Goes 60 miles on a charge and is so quiet. Never had a power issue on a hill. Highly recommend!
We would love the quietness of it for sure. 🙂🙂
I don't have a golf cart yet, but I always knew that when I do get one, it will be electric. Thanks for this update on the lithium battery golf carts. I'm looking forward to getting one!
Good and informative video. I know you all have gas carts and now I know you enjoy the quietness of the electric however, the range difference is a deal breaker for me. Also, the thought of plugging in every night is just not appealing. Throw in the replacement cost ($4500-5500) of LifePO4 batteries and I will keep my gas cart. Purchase a Quiet Tech and don't look back. Yamaha gas carts run forever with just minimal maintenance and the Quiet Tech's have very minimal engine noise. I love mine.
Thanks for the info, I did buy my Lithium cart at that store. A couple of points, the charger runs off a 110 volt line in most houses. They give you the charging equipment which can fit below the drivers seat. If you are low, just find someone who has 110 line. I find I can get 20 miles charged in an hour, that should be enough to get you home. I added speakers as well and they're great.
As you know, Tesla runs off Lithium as well and they are now working on a new battery that won't use lithium which they are targeting 1 million miles. Knowing Tesla, it'll be ready in just a few years. Really means never charging again.
You guys are good on getting information
Great show one of your better Thursday show
Great show!! Very informative! Not quite ready for an electric car (vroom vroom), but I’m sold on the electric golf car(t). Thanks for the video!
Thanks, Jerry and Linda for another informative video. If I was in the market for a golf cart, I think I would lean towards electric.
Good Morning Linda and Jerry, I have been following your channel for a long time. If I may remark how both of you look amazing compared to your first video some years ago. You come over as sincere, generous with your time for the benefit of all interested parties. Clearly the lifestyle suits you both. May you continue in good health and enjoy the moment for many many years to come. I live in England and enjoy your channel simply to relax and see how life is in Florida.
Good morning Jerry and Linda, excellent show!
Very informative show. Linda I love your yellow cart. Yellow is my favorite color.
Great show, learned so much 👍🏻👍🏻
What another wonderful video I really enjoyed and learned about electric verses gas carts The two men you interviewed gave a great interview and were very knowledgeable
Great show and informative.
Thanks for a great Thursday video! 👌
my 2019 Elite has 16k miles and I don't notice any battery degradation so far
This was a very informative video, as usual from you. When we were there last year on our first lifestyle visit, I priced a Yamaha quiet tech cart with bells and whistles. It was approximately $14,000.00 and we were impressed with the people there. The Lithium battery carts are appealing, but the cost of the replacement battery doesn't appeal to us at this time. What they didn't cover is the disposal fee for the lithium battery which is NOT cheap on any lithium battery. However, when we are there next month, we will keep an open mind about the options on which you covered.
How much is a typical disposal fee for the lithium batteries?
@@CTChipmunk Approximately $500.00 each.
@@blasterman56 wow, and i read that each golf cart can have 2 to 6 lithium batteries depending how hilly and how much range you want... not sure how many are typically used in the avg golf cart... so, for example, if four lithium batteries cost 4500, then it would actually cost 6500 when you add $2000 disposal fees?
@@CTChipmunk Now, one lithium battery is all you need,
I can't find any references to disposal fees anywhere; where did you find those numbers?
Hi Jerry & Linda !
I had some customers in yesterday who live in the Villages 😊 We ALL knew Gizmo !!
Hi if you’re reading this 😊
Gizmo read it and showed us! Thank you! 😁😁😁
Great questions and great responses. Good to hear that battery replacement costs are going down a little over time, that's the one thing that would put me off lithium - but I'd probably get lithium now.
Hi Jerry and Linda! Great show. I just love those guys at The Villages Golf Cars store. Our new gas golf cart should be delivered soon. This show was very informative. I totally get the appeal of the electric golf cart. Quiet, pick up etc. However reading through some of the comments, I have to agree with the folks who are not quite ready to go electric. The cost is a concern. We'll be getting a second cart and there is a lot to consider. We'll see. I love Linda's yellow cart! If you are concerned about noise doing your videos, there is software that takes that noise out. Probably a lot cheaper to get than an electric golf cart for now. Again, nice show!
Thanks, Sharon! 😁😁😁
Enjoyed the show! Louisville slugger company making pink bats! Grandson avid baseball pitcher, first baseman at eight!
Loved This Video, Very Interesting And informative 👍
Great show! Thanks 👌
battery carts 3 to 5K more than a gas,, I can buy a heck of a lot of fuel for that amount, but time marches on,, range is really the biggest thing,, good show
Another good show!
I’d say the future of golf carts is electric. Cleaner not as noisy and great range for the vast majority of golf cart users.
Very Informative. Thank you for taking the time to educate those of us who know very little about the value of electric vs gas and Lithium vs Lead acid carts. Also, their willingness to discuss price is much appreciated. We would definitely buy from this business. The only question I have is, "Approximately what would you get on a trade-in, if you wanted to go electric?"
Hi Mary, if you bring us your golf car, one of our sales associates can usually have a trade-in value for you in 10 - 15 minutes.
Gas or electric, the biggest failure in the golf cart industry today is service after the sale. Pick a reputable dealer first, then chose your cart. That dealership looks like a winner! Enjoyed the video
Yes. Wise words. Thanks, Gary.
Great video. Very useful information. Thanks for sharing. Saludos !!!
What a great informative video. 2 questions: 1) What is the top speed of an electric cart and 2) Does the dealer do trade ins ?
20mph is the factory setting on all of our golf cars. Yes, we do accept trade-ins!
Excellent show, thank you for this knowledge. Not in the market for now, but, maybe in the future, happy with our gas cart. Did you shoot this in the Brownwood store?😎
Yes!
Thanks for the introduction to electric carts
I am all about the Electric cart. I don't want all the upkeep and added cost to keep the gas cart going. I would like to know price of electric vs gas cart with all the same options.
Live in Victory in Verrado. Love our electric cart.
Just curious, Jerry…you talked to Linda as if HER car would be the one to be replaced….why not yours??? A really great and interesting video!
Mine is a Quietech... hers is a year older. Mine is better for videoing.
but quite a few folks go to clubs and carts... they have a traveling mechanic for TV. I use Todd Casey, best travel guy in TV.. just did my yearly maintenance last week and added numorous upgrades... even took horn off floor button , added to column and replaced with a high-low beam switch, "Old school"
It's nice. I actually asked Todd Casey if he would do a show about golf carts with us, but he declined.
Would have been helpful for them to comment on what has to be done in a home/garage to charge the electric carts. What equipment has to be added and so forth. Perhaps you could have a brief follow-up in a Monday Mailbag session.
Hi James, no equipment/upgrades are needed for these golf cars. They come with a charger and plug into a standard 120v outlet. Great question!
Excellent video! Thank you!!
Jerry and Linda! Keep your GAS cart!!!!!! You will be glad you did
To solve the range problem we need charging stations as part of infrastructure, & especially down south…what about it The Villages?
Great video and information. Question for you, did you buy your pre-owned carts privately or through the store? Also wondering, do the loaners becoming purchasable when they upgrade the fleet of loaners? I really enjoyed the information about both types of carts available.
Hi Rene, most of our pre-owned inventory comes from trade-ins towards new units. Every now and then, someone may be downsizing or moving from The Villages and we will buy a unit from them. Anything that is too old or in rough shape, we will auction off to other dealers outside of the area. Our loaner golf cars are upgraded every year and the used models we recondition. These reconditioned units are broken all the way down to the rolling chassis and rebuilt with new components and come with a 1 year bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 2 or 3 year powertrain warranty. Most people cannot tell the difference between a new and reconditioned model if we don't tell them. Great questions!
@@TheVillagesGolfCars Thanks, that makes sense. Appreciate the quick reply.
Hi great video. it would be great if they would put an alternator on the electric golf carts and you would not have to charge the battery's
Hello Jerry, Linda and Gizmo,
Thank you for taking your time for making this video. I have learned more about Golf Carts.
Electric golf carts sound nice, but I think I would go with Gasoline.
I am a "Bell & Whistle kinds of gal. I want it all.
Like the Villages, I would be driving around on my golf cart, looking at all the villages ( homes, etc ).
Glad you enjoyed it!
😁😺 That was fun!
Excellent discussion.
Thank you!
Loved the presentation. One question I would have is ....do they take "trade ins" like a regular car dealer. I assume that there is that used cart market the same as cars?
Yes, we do accept trade-ins! Just like a car dealership, you are taxed on the difference between the new golf car and the trade value.
Star lithium powered carts for the WIN!
Interesting to compare the two options, especially the running costs. If it costs 8c to run a gas cart and 1.7c for electric this is a 6.3c differential. So you'd need to drive 79,365 miles in an electric cart to break even on the $5k battery replacement cost. This equates to 1,322 days (at say 60 miles a day), or 3.62 years if you drove every day. Neither of these options are likely - especially for a snow-birder - so your probably looking at a breakeven of closer to 10 years. Much as I like the idea of electricity the cost is not there on breakeven - assuming of course that your sole criteria for comparison is cost. Noise and speed are two other factors. This raises another point. In Europe, there is a problem with electric cars because they are too quiet and people with hearing problems can't hear them... that's why you need a ghetto blaster !!!! TURN UP THE BASE.... but then surely that cancels out the idea of electricity being quieter... Besides that, I actually like the sound of the gas carts... but then I like the sound of Jaguar's, Aston Martins, and other high-performance cars :-)
That hurt my brain.
Haha - but then what do you expect from a finance director 😂😂😂😂
I was assured there would be NO math on this channel. Deeply disappointed! 🤬
(Good breakdown 😉)
That was a great analysis, you obviously have a finance background. While I see advantages to both, on a purely financial basis stick with the gas. If other consideration, environmental, maintenance, noise and the like are your prime motivators the electric is an excellent alternative.
You didn't take into account the much lower maintenance costs of electric car.
You two are amazing. The cost of the Lithium batteries is going to climb substantially. My Tesla has a Lithium battery and because of the shortage of Lithium the price is going to rise. This would be a great time to buy.
I wish the four seater would have a hard case
I enjoy all your shows. You are interesting to listen to and informative. I want to think you are honest but it is hard to believe you actually enjoy living there considering what you came from.. What your shows reinforce, at least for me, is why I would never live in a place like that or any place with an HOA for that matter. We know one couple who lived there for a short time and they described it as North Korea. It seems to have a contrived lifestyle as you wait to die. This couple I was referring to moved a little north to around Tallahassee on one acre with a nice small house. They can't believe the mistake they made buying in the Villages. They did make a small profit on their home and it was quick to sell so that was a plus. My wife and I are looking to make a move to north Florida from Fort Lauderdale. I have lived here since the 50s and it is just does not seem like my home anymore. A while back my with and I took off in our motor home numerous times for months looking for (Mayberry). I doesn't seem to exist. However, where you live is what you make of it. I just don't like the idea others trying to control my life as in a place like the Villages. I feel the only thing you have there is this youtube channel. You have made a small business of just living there. I think without that you would be tired of it pretty quick and ready to make another move. Florida is a great place to live and pretty vast. There is so much more to it then just the coast line. I will still be watching and do enjoy you both andI hope I didn't insult you in any way. To steal from your sign off, I like you both and "I hope to see you get out of there".
Thanks For listening, Joe.
Joe it seems that you have made your decisions off of information gained from a very small sample of people. I would suggest you do a lifestyle visit here. It would be very interesting to hear if you have the same viewpoint afterward. We don't feel controlled by anyone. We moved here because we want a beautiful place to live. There are many, many activities. As for having a business with the RUclips channel… That is just silly. The strength of living here is not only in this beautiful place, it is the many, many beautiful people that live here. We talk to people every day… and not many are like your friends that thought they were living in North Korea. I just wonder what they wanted to do that they felt they were restricted from doing?
@@JERRYANDLINDA More then a small sampling, I have been aware of the Villages since they started in the 80s. This is not a debate, people have different likes. When I made reference to what you do as a business, I really meant you have something that you really like doing and it revolves around where you live. Without that, I don't see you enjoying this day to day contrived life of fake enjoyment. Is this how you saw yourselves living out the end of your lives say 20 years ago? I won't really write any more comments on your videos but will just say, this and I mean it. I feel sorry for you both. You sound like two very nice accomplished people and here is where you have ended up. Like I said this is not a debate. When you put your heads on your pillows and think about your lives be honest with yourselves.
Thank you for feeling sorry for us. Hopefully we will remain happily ignorant.
Good vid as always,,know this will sell some carts!
Hi Jerry, Linda and Gizmo. I'm an old dinosaur I'll take gas over electric anytime! Imagine the the outcome of WWII if they threw "Molotov Cocktails" made with batteries instead of petrol! (lol) Great informative show as always. You folks always brighten the day keep up the great job and stay healthy and happy!
LOVED this show. Go for it! You can’t take it with you. I think it would make you cart videos more enjoyable. I have had an EZGO electric cart for 15 years. The first one was a 36 volt that did the job but upgraded to 48 volt and love it. I plan to make move to 72 volt and lithium in the next few years. When I pass a gas cart in the neighborhood I hate the noise. The two guys representing the store did a great job. Very professional, presentable and knowledgeable.
any hybrids, or charge stations coming into the villages? thats would be awesome, id prefer electric/hybrid
We don't know of any. The Villages is good at planning though, so there probably will be.
The lead acid Trojans from Battery boys are great…better than lithium are “solid state” batteries…
Hi Jerry & Linda. I have a question. We have neighbors who have solar panels on their house to charge their electric car. Can you put solar panels on your roofs in the Villages to charge your golf cart batteries? Great show as always.
Yes.
I think the orange golf cart would be ideal for Linda.....
Curious if you have a charging device for a non Lithium battery at your house and you get a car with a Lithium battery, can you charge it with the same device or do you need to upgrade to another charging device? And how much would that cost? Thanks for the videos!
Hi Linda, the lead-acid chargers are different from the lithium chargers. All golf cars purchased from us come with a charger specific to that vehicle and is included in our advertised pricing.
Do they make a hybrid cart yet?
Not yet, that would be great, I hope it’s coming soon
Is there many electric carts that have a solar panel mounted on roof or have you seen anyone roll out the flexible solar panels to charge their carts while tooling around the villages?
We haven't seen any.
Question, can I just go there and rent a golf cart to drive around the squares/stores? How much are the rentals? Thanks!
Yes, we think $25 or so per day if available. They are scarce lately.
@@JERRYANDLINDA thanks Ill check if I can make a reservation too.
We're buying an electric cart soon, but it has to be lithium. We moved to Cresswind Charleston 4 weeks ago and I have yet to see a gas cart. These electric carts are very quiet and I'm not sure, but This community might require just electric carts.
What are those colorful, striped attachments hanging from the roof? Where can you get them?
We are not sure what you mean.
I do think electric golf carts are the future, but they are not ready for prime time today for us. Nothing worse than been stuck because your battery has no power. Battery replacement is expensive and there is a disposable fee.
We have to ask Elon Musk to make Electric Carts so we could get 300 to 500 miles on a charge 😄. Also do you need a special charger for the Lithium Electric Carts or do you plug them into a standard 120v outlet, not sure if you mentioned that in your video.
Hey James.. On my research, 120v outlet will work.. will recharge 2 to 3 hrs.
Seen replacement batteries starting 1 K … not 5 or 6 K
Not attractive enough yet. Need charging stations all over The Villages for these electric carts. Of course you can install a port in your garage which is the most logical way to go. Villages should include these charging ports in all new construction. Depending on the garage size, one or two ports s/b standard. Great show.
With a 180 amp lithium battery you can travel 50-60 miles on a single charge. Furthermore, they make larger batteries which can get you closer to 70-80 miles on a single charge. With that in mind, this alleviates any mileage anxiety in The Villages.
Hi Cynthia, with electric cars you usually need upgraded electrical, but these lithium golf car chargers plug into any 110v outlet. Many garages have these as standard.
@@TheVillagesGolfCars That is really good to know! Upgrading to a 240 V outlet is expensive because you need to hire an electrician. So it you happen to already have a 220 outlet, does it accept a 220 outlet and charge even faster?
@@johntamulonis4626 Yes, most chargers now can work with either and it would charge faster. You would just need the correct AC cable.
We have an Evolution. It is great. Uses little battery and we can charge from any standard home outlet.
Ooohhh that powder blue golf cart looked fine BUT driving down I-10 in Houston, TX at 20mph might do me in! Very interesting video! Thanks!
Do they have a trade in program?
Hi J, yes we do take golf cars in on trade!
@@TheVillagesGolfCars Thank you for your reply
where is this store located?
Brownwood in The Villages.
