- On Monday, December 30, 2024, a roof fire on Carl-Langhans-Straße was reported to the Monheim fire department at around 11:30 a.m. The full-time security guard who was immediately dispatched was unable to detect a roof fire on site, but was able to detect massive smoke in the entire detached single-family home and a full fire on the ground floor. “The situation was initially dramatic when we arrived; neighbors reported that the owner was missing from the building,” said fire chief Torsten Schlender. Several teams wearing respiratory protection were immediately deployed to save the resident, at the same time firefighting was initiated on the ground floor and the alarm level was raised. Luckily, during the course of the operation, the resident reported to the scene; she was not at home when the fire broke out. Therefore, no injuries were reported. After successful firefighting and ventilation measures, the site was handed over to the police. Despite the rapid arrival of the fire brigade, the building is currently no longer habitable. The Monheim fire brigade was deployed with 35 full-time emergency services as well as the Monheim and Baumberg volunteer fire brigade and two ambulances, supported by rescue services from Langenfeld and Leverkusen.
