Aux 88 is timeless this interview is from 2009, they also have recorded under the name Black Tokyo still coming with the techno bass in 2021. There songs should be featured in movies and commercials so ahead of the times.
Yeah, I'm familiar with some of the big detroit/detroit electro/techno, Dopplereffect, Drexciya, U.R., etc. but something unique and special about Aux 88
Appreciate the shout out to Richie Hawtin by AUX88 at min 11.00. Not often noted (and sometimes purposely forgotton) that Plastikman was in the game early in Detroit too.
It was probably more that the music that inspired Tommy + Keith. Richie was throwing some of the best parties in Detroit and Ontario in the mid 90's and despite the feelings by some people in Detroit that he was an outsider and trying to capitalize on their thing, a plastikparty was a very cool experience.
I prefer the term Technobass over Electro, Electro is a oversaturated term that means everything from Front 242, to Synthwave artists Power Glove. So rebranding as Technobass makes sense
these guys are actually really smart..... this is a cool interview. I hope they are doing good, if not still making tracks for Aux 88, moving onto other things that keep them happy
ok, I have a confession to make: I filed those Aux88 records.. together.. with all those Drexciya, Kraftwerk, Egyptian Lover 12"s.. in my cupboard, under.. "Electro".. The distinction, why they refer to it as "Techno Bass", somehow eludes me. I love that so much early Detroit techno references so much SciFi of that era, for example Octave One - X-files, where all those track names allude to early Star Trek TNG episodes of the 90s and their respective shibboleths... And what was once far out, nowadays seems anchored very much to that specific period in time. Some may call it dated, some may call it timeless, to me it is mainly nostalgic, in the best sense of the word! This promo feature from 2009 strikes the same chords with me! The lab coats outfits, describing your own music as "intelligent techno" (an expression that reminds me unfavourably of "Intelligent Dance Music" aka IDM, a monicker crowbarred in by the music press which still make my eyes roll because of how unnecessary arrogant/defensive it sounds), it somehow reeks of "trying to hard", "zu dick aufgetragen"... but is very loveable at the same time. Perhaps I am jaded. Because in the end, I am very very thankful for the high concept aspirations of what came from the legacy of the Belleville Three nerds; track titles and label art that gave me ideas of what to imagine when I listen to tracks such as "Final Frontier". Live long and prosper, Glück und langes Leben, and always stay funky! Long live Detroit!
"He had thought it barren: he now saw that it was the womb of worlds, whose blazing and innumerable offspring looked down nightly even upon the earth with so many eyes-and here, with how many more! No: Space was the wrong name. Older thinkers had been wiser when they made it simply the heavens."
Very intelligent duo. Electro is what comes to my mind when I listen to them, so I don't really agree with that Techno-bass shit, but I do agree with the Electronic-funk thing.

check out this electro playlist i made on sportify, maybe there's something you like :) open.spotify.com/playlist/5WNdiHYqaXzTLdCfHpSq3n?si=Lgslmr8MTpO8BpGKTNTI4g
under teh shadow of electro-techno isn't a bad place to be.. bass on that track gave me patulous eustacheans.. 88 i'm teh oldtime vst developer xoxos, you might be interested in "angle" which is for untuned sounds.. a new one called "universe" out in the next month which (also free) uses IFFT synthesis.. i don't do what other people do. and these synths have like 5 users, so not promoting. what's on par with electro-techno.. maybe erly jack dangers? nothing. 88 made electro immmmmmmmensely powerful
Definetly sounds like electro to me though. I've never been Into the Idea of concepts. Personally I want to fly free, experiment and go with what feels good to me. I get what they're saying about vocals being something that you remember. But to me the vocals doesn't matter if they don't please me as a listener. I've never been Into the Vocoder robot vocals. It just sounds cheesy to me, and it'll destroy the track if everything else sounds great. This is not the only example. I don't like most dub reggae vocals either. Very often it sounds like the vocalists can't sing. EBM vocals can also be annoying. And I've never been Into rap either. Sorry for being picky :)
These guys are the DOPEST
True techno artists representing the original futuristic digital spirit
Digital "&" spirit was also doing that from a slightly diff perspective.
🤩
this channel is pure gold

The track Alias is SIC! I've listened to it a million times, and it never gets old. Thank you for all you do.

Surprised to hear they listen to Herbert too.

AUX88 - Intel
Love this! Can anyone suggest similar music? Highly appreciated!
Anthony Rother may fit the bill. Though he doesn't have a fancy name for his style, it's similar. Electro, Vocoder.

No way you keep that overall white in that place

I love AUX88, but that mad scientist with lab coats and futurism concept is a bit too much for me.
