In my opinion these recordings in 1964 represent something of the best in EG's career. Look at the joy in his face, the humour, the playfulness. Thanks to whoever brought this man to earth because he must surely come from the heaven of jazz. ......
Erroll knew his talent for playing the piano "By Ear" was a Gift from God. He devoted his gift to God and people everywhere to enjoy for always. What a man!! I just can't get enough of his music!! Thank you God for this extraordinary man. SYLVIA - FL 11/7/2018
In Honeysuckle Rose he shows what a formidable stride player he was too, this was not often heard from Erroll. He's my favourite jazz pianist, a unique talent who could not read a note of music. His driving left hand was like a strumming guitar in a rhythm section, his harmonies were gorgeous, his improvisations were brilliant, his introductions left everyone wondering what he was going to play including Eddie Calhoun on bass and Kelly Martin on drums, he composed around 200 pieces including the gorgeous No More Shadows and All Yours which he plays here, he always performed with such unbridled joy unlike some stony-faced jazz musicians. He died way too soon on 2nd January 1977 aged just 55, not long after being diagnosed with lung cancer. All that smoking caught up with him I guess. If only we had had him for another 30 years. I would love to have heard him live, I wish he could be reincarnated somehow !
1. Honeysuckle Rose 2. No More Shadows 5:34 3. Mambo Erroll 9:24 4. Penthouse Serenade 14:50 5. Jeannine (I Dream of Lilac Time 18:38 6. On the Street Where You Live / I Could Have Danced All Night 23:45 7. All Yours 29:27 8. The Lady Is a Tramp 32:22 9. Erroll's Theme 34:20
Thank you for showing all the songs on this album. My favorite tunes are (which Erroll played a lot on his other albums) "On the Street Where You Live"/I Could Have Danced All Night". My body just has to be still to hear them and all the while moving to the jazz. It doesn't make sense how this can be, but IT BE!. :) SYLVIA - FL 11/7/2018
This man swings Penthouse Serenade so hard, and plays behind the beat so intensely, he’s going to rip the fabric of space-time and create his own black hole!
Erroll was lefthanded and learned to play perfect with both hands. He never learned how to read notes. If you lissen carefully, you will first note he acompains himself. Sometimes it sounds like 3 hands playing. Erroll always gave him self time to work on a number. Because of that he never played a single tune in the same way. I have been listen a lot to both records and videos on youtube. In my opinion the 2 video has recorded him at the top of both skill and experience. Consert by the sea is his best record it has been said - but I thing this is actualy much better. Look at Errolls eyes from 15:15 - a lot is going on - in the end he makes it serious. Think about the horrible climate in a studio like this temp. about 40 degrees cecius sitting in a wool coat.

Erroll Garner was my introduction to jazz in the 50's and he's still my favorite.

Thank you, but you forgot "That's All"
Un merveilleux Monsieur du Jazz, une mélodie de rêve et un doigté fabuleux à faire pâlir une dame aux mœurs légères :D !!
He was one of the greatests pianists I ever heard ...................
very descriptive. he was one not two people. he was a greatest; not the greatest becaue there are many. he was a pianist. and you heard him.

Ha ha ha :)
He's left hand is unbelievable :)
Not only his left hand, his right one too...
Yes, Soduno, one would hear 2 pianos playing. :) I do, anyway, because of that left hand! SYLVIA - FL 11/7/2018
Thanks for Comments.
the master
Irrespresible and irresistable and a completely original talent. I love the way he teases both audience and fellow musicians with his introductions.
GOD GAVE ERROLL A GIFT AND HE USED IT /////////GREAT THANK GOD
And he enjoys himself so much.
Right on, Bernard. His mama never had to entertain him! I love how he begins his songs, but even more I love how he ends them.

No more shadows - false, its fly to me to moon
Beats me how people can give this the thumbs down! Sigh.
If anyone can play like Erroll 21:47 WITHOUT looking at the piano, then you can certianly start making Garner Jams !
Thank God he didn't attend Juilliard in NYC!
Jazz College, ..what's that all about?
Switching from the intro's to the tune and the improvisation ......... I cannot help it but I could'nt on my trombone ! Only he !
Sam Kooy b
why is it that I see flowers when he starts playing.
came because of the new Adele song - It's so amazing!

Look at the woman at 9:20, it looks like she's crying a tear
Awesome pianist together with Oscar Peterson

Lets it say me in this way. There are many other good pianists in the jazz item. But most joy come(for me) from erroll.
Errol has more soul in a single toenail clipping than the whole audience!
Soul-less comment, honestly.
11 dislikes are from other piano legends
Is there another show like this one? I seem to remember Erroll playing out longer and the host coming in farther in the song, or am I deluded?
!!!

What ever happened to Erroll's twin? Was this sibling a boy or a girl? Someone please tell me. Thanks! SYLVIA - FL 11/7/2018
