Different definitions of QE seem to be inconsistent as sometimes QE is limited to BEFORE the action. However, I think QE during and shortly after the action makes all the difference. My experience comes from Pool billiards. QE is a game changer in this precision sport.

Yes, you are on the right track - its keeping the eye fixated on a single spot - before, during and for a short time after the critical action in the sport which will make it "Quiet" and allow maximal visual information and performance.

The Videos would Be lot better if you removed the background music

    Great content, thanks doctor.
I'm a cross dominant basketball player, right handed and left eye dominant, and i want to increase my shooting percentage, Someone told me that i should shoot with my left hand but its not easy. Is there anything i can do? Appreciate your answer.

I am not sure about the dominance - take a look at sone of the videos on the channel about dominance and/or pick up a copy of my book on Amazon "Eye of the Champion" whole section on dominance there. I would not suggest changing hands, instead focus on having a quiet eye when shooting - that will likely have a greater impact on success!

Would you say that a goggle like Swivel Vision encourages and inhances the quiet eye technique ?

Only to the extent that it blocks peripheral vision... As I noted in the previous comment they are not necessary in order to have a good QE

Dr. Laby, for tennis I assume I should keep my head still right before, then at impact, then after impact still look at the contact spot before moving eyes to other side of the court, is that correct?

Its not so much the idea of keeping your head still (which is important) but the key is keeping your eyes still, which means that they should be fixed and looking at your opponent. Specifically, looking at the point of contact between the ball and the face of the raquet. That will give you the maximum amount of information for your visual system and create the best visually based motor action that is optimal. Hope that helps!

Given that your eyes should be fixed and looking at your opponent when he hits the ball so you can move and prepare for the shot, and then you need to keep your eyes still at the point of contact, I have the terrible habit of looking up to see where my tennis ball is going just prior to contact, which ruins the accuracy of my shot. I have tried to keep from doing this, but I can't stop from looking up just prior to contact. What can I do to keep my head and eyes still at the point of contact like Federer and all great Tennis players do? Thanks!

@@davideidel Perhaps one way to achieve this to use a pair of LCD shutter glasses that will block your vision upwards and force you to look forward. As you saw in the quiet eye - where you are looking, in other words what you are fixating on visually just prior to the key moment is critical to success - perhaps the glasses preventing your looking elsewhere will help. You can use glasses from Senaptec or from BB-Sys/Qshot they are a bit different in capabilities and use ...

@@SportsVisionbyDrLaby Something that has helped me personally has been visualizing a comet tail as the ball is traveling from opponents racket and then I visualize a yellow line projecting from the incoming ball the moment it lands on my side of the court and this forces me to focus more on the ball thereby allowing the quiet eye to focus on impact.
Not sure if this helps for you or others but worth a shot. It’s not easy and requires a lot of concentration but it’s doable with imagination and practice.
