So glad to watch another Brit travelling to Macedonia! I went in the summer and stayed with a Macedonian friend I have in Strumica. We visited Skopje, Ohrid, Doiran and so many other places too. The food is amazing too! Hope you tried shopska salad!

The bus is not free. It's 35 MKD... actually you buy an electronic card for 200MKD and then you have 2 "free" rides, and you can add up to 6000MKD (ca.100EUR) on the electronic card. And the Feta cheese flavoured Chipsy might be good, but it is not Macedonian, it is imported serbian product.

I appreciate that, but I’m looking at it from a traveller’s perspective, and not somebody who’s living and working in Macedonia. You wouldn’t spend money in hostels, or go out for dinners in restaurants every day like a traveller, so best not to compare the two.
The money ull spend on fast food or in restaurants is equal to the one you gonna spend it home. But hey,that's not your content as a traveller so i understand you. Keep the good work,i was enjoying ur vlog like it was awesome.

The money he'd spend out on a nice burger or dinner (lets say 300denars) will be quite enough for your mom to buy potatoes,meat and make good stew for your whole family. Along with salad of course. So he is so right. For tourists Skopje is quite afordable comparing to the other big cities across Europe. Nice video btw

Hello, I am a fan of you and I am actually from Skopje I live here and I am here right now. Here are some tips, facts, negatives and positives if you want to come again and do a meetup your welcome whenever you want!!
Facts:
Macedonia is actually over than 500yrs old and it older than America,Canada,Britain.
The biggest earthquake was in 1963 and it was 6.7 (I believe) and it was shaking for 1 minute.
The biggest flood was in 1961 and the river Vardar overcomed a lot because there was a storm.. it rain for 2 days (I believe)
And it has been under the turkish government for more than 500yrs
It has a lot of HEROES such as Гоце Делчев, Даме Груев, Питу Гули..... and I recommend if you come back here go to the ,,Museum of IMRO (VMRO) and Museum of the victims of the Communist Regime" so yeah..
Positives:
It kept some reaaaaaally old buildings.
You can find some stores that are really cheap.
Negatives:
Around 8-9-10 yrs ago it was really cheap but now it has started being very pricey..
And it started re- building old buildings with some material which is kind of like Styrofoam and it's not good we need to keep the like a memory.

For an Englishman in New York pardon in Skopje, Macedonia seems to be a pretty chip place, and sure it is... but for local residences with monthly income of less than 200 euro/160-170 gbp it is GREAT everyday struggle to make ends meet. However it make us proud that our guest have a good time here.

Hi! Just came across this video. I was born in San Francisco and I lived in Macedonia for roughtly 7 years. Now I live in France. I explored Macedonia for the most time I could, it was wonderful. You should have tried the hotel Holiday Inn. It is very expensive but you get what you want and it is totally worth it. I'm half way through the video, but did you try the traditional food "Tavce Gravce"?

It's curious. Whilst we were Yugoslavia, WE crossed into neighbouring Greece and Bulgaria (i.e. from Macedonia of course) to get good value for money, especially on domestics and for dining. Now they go to Macedonia for this same reason. What is cheap for a British traveler is by no means cheap locally. The rising GDP does not relate to the true standard of living since most of the money earned is for foreign companies who exploit cheap labour. In Britain we had a Prime Minister until 2016 called David Cameron. He has a wife Samantha, and this wife of his owns a textile sweatshop in Macedonia - where the workers rot for 250€ per month. Of course what the business actually makes is a different story. They get one ten-minute break per day, work six days per week, and overtime is mandatory, may be instructed at five minutes' notice, and does not involve extra pay: only the guarantee of the job on the following day for the employee. High as unemployment is in the countries situated along the Balkan-Pannonian belt, "job vacancies" are non-existent. For each position there are dozens of applicants.
