  • Melanie Scheuer (she/her, they/them) discusses their experiences as a teacher planning and hosting the 2014 Pride Parade at Frank Hurt Secondary, the first annual Pride parade held at a school in the Surrey School District. She shares challenges they faced as a teacher to find resources and support to create more inclusive and 2SLGBTQ+ friendly curricula.

    Amplifying Voices is a Surrey Archives Oral History Project partially funded through Heritage BC’s 150 Time Immemorial Grant Program. This project aims to preserve and honour the lived experiences of communities who are underrepresented in the stories we tell about Surrey’s past. This interview is part of a series conducted with members of the local 2SLGBTQ+ community and advocates.
