Theres actually a small but dedicated modding scene for this game adding new creatures, abilities, maps and balance patches (Tellurian mod, its very popular and extremely well made). The guy called Bchamp in the final game helps run the ICReplays youtube channel, its great to see a cult classic still alive at least somewhat.
Oh hell yes this is my favourite RTS ever. I didn't even really care about the RTS part as a kid I just spent hours in the creature creator playing god

Skunks belong to the order Carnivora, and are thus 'carnivores' even if, like many carnivores, they are partially omnivorous. The Giant Panda is a 'carnivore' in this sense, too, although it is predominantly herbivorous. This description is actually perfectly sensible, though not exactly well-put!

I loved this game growing up. It's what got me into RTS games. Still play the original on the disc to this day.
I'm still upset we didn't take the time to create a roster of abominations in the army builder XD
I first learned of this game when I invented my monkey-penguin hybrids for the first time back in 2006. Amazingly, the original inspirations were Diddy Kong and Tux of Linux. The monkey in question was developed by Rare and made into an original creator by Nintendo. Microsoft bought Rare shortly before releasing this game.
After discovering this game, I fell in love with Relic which also did Homeworld before Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40K series.
I always found it impossible to laugh at youtubers jokes, even the lovely ones like day9, but 'dr twice nightly' left me in tears. Epic!

It was one of Relic software house games...way before their Dawn of War and Company of Heroes.
It's a fun game with a pretty unique flavor, there aren't many RTS games that let you build your own armies fully custom. And yes, there are a few people who still play this, mostly with the Tellurian mod on the Steam Edition of the game
