    A friend was telling me that they got a coffee at a dance competition this weekend. You took a cup, swiped your card and a machine dispensed the coffe. No human interaction. The machine asked if she wanted to tip. We're at a point where they want us to tip machines.

    The "Mr Pink tipping scene" in Reservoir Dogs pretty much covers my philosophy on tips. That said I am British - and we don't tip here (or at least there is no expectation to tip). According to the actor (Steve Buscemi) - the scene is how the writer of the film really feels about "tipping".

    Yea we order in a restaurant to pick up and they want tip. You tip when you sit there and for service on the table you don’t have to tip for pick up.

    I am from the EU, and by default WE DO NOT TIP.
    Tipping here is RARE, and often only used to round up the bill
    Like 44.95 euro would be rounded up to 45 euro, if you can't be bothered to wait for the 5 cents change, when paying cash

    • @jwenting
      @jwenting 6 месяцев назад

      Even in the EU it's getting out of control when ordering delivery or takeout.
      Ordered Dominoes delivery in the EU 2 weeks ago, 12 Euro. The website wanted me to give them another 10 Euro tip!
      Went to KFC a while ago, the ordering touch screen wanted a tip that would have been higher than the price of the actual order!

      @@jwenting That looks more like American companies trying to enforce tipping culture on consumers, hoping they would pay it.
      Do you actually think that "KIOSK tip" goes to the employees?

    • @StevesRealWorld
      @StevesRealWorld  6 месяцев назад

      I can live with that as it wouldn't bother me too much - Thank you for the comment!

    Dominoes expected me to tip 10 Euro for a 12 Euro delivery order (which already included 4 Euro for the driver, I live 5 minutes from them by car!).
    KFC expected a 10 Euro tip for an 8 Euro order in store for takeout.
    It's not just the US any longer.
    If they'd not tried to force a tip on me I'd have tipped that Dominoes guy 2-3 Euro that evening, because he was quick and the weather was atrocious.
    But any business that puts a tip on the bill as standard gets that tip struck out and receives NO TIP AT ALL from me, even if I'd otherwise have tipped them more than that. That's my rule in Europe, that's my rule anywhere in the world.
    If I want to tip you that's MY decision, and MY decision as to how much.

      OMG that is crazy - I really thought this was a USA problem, arghhhh. Thank you for the comment!

    I've gotten so fed up with tipping culture in recent years. I was willing to go along with it when it was limited to servers and deliver drivers, but now I just rarely ever go out to eat at all anymore
    I know this sounds petty, but there's a new bakery near me that I was considering trying out. I looked at there google reviews so I could see the pictures of the inside of their store, and I saw there was a tip cup on the counter. That was it. They're never getting my business now.
    I don't care that it's optional. it's still ridiculous. And even though I'm perfectly willing tip delivery drivers and servers, the places with tip cups for carry out will never get my business in any form. I'm just done with it all.

      You are not the only one that avoids these types of businesses. I'm thinking a tip for what? Doing your job? Is that's what your salary is for? Thank you for the comment!

    Perhaps the service industries in the US should pay their staff a little more so as there would be no need to tip. In NY recently, I wheeled my case to the lift with a staff member accompanying me. He opened the door to my hotel room, that’s all he did, and demanded a tip. I was really p!ssed off. Welcome to America, where tipping is out of control.

    yrah I tip take n bake pizza because it's cheap as hell already and those people are paid ass wages. They are tossing pizza dough and laying out all the topping fresh for me right in front of me I appreciate that. If a robot made the pizza I'd say no to the tip though.

    I only tend to tip on takeout food if it's from a place that you'd normally sit down & be waited on, since I feel like ordering to take out is depriving someone of a tip otherwise (?) But also I appreciate someone packaging it up & in some cases bringing to my car.
