    ABOUT THIS LIVESTREAM:
Virtual Railfan’s LIVE train cameras at Decatur, Alabama are located about a quarter of a mile south of the Tennessee River Bridge on the historic Union Railroad Depot, built in 1905 by Southern Railway. Passenger service ended in 1979 upon the cancellation of Amtrak’s Floridian train. Today, the depot is a museum featuring many original artifacts, like tools and restored signage, plus a model train display. It is operated by the Decatur-Morgan Convention & Visitors Bureau, our hosts.
Since Decatur’s railroad bridge is a bottleneck shared by two Class I Railroads, our cameras record every train running through the area, including locals, which switch several industries along the riverfront throughout the day. The majority of rail traffic is intermodal, with a healthy diet of manifest freight thanks to Norfolk Southern’s nearby Sheffield Classification Yard. Note, there is no Amtrak service at this location.
