I love The Gilded Age‼️‼️‼️😍 I love that real facts and real people are incorporated into the show. It's interesting to watch how big names like J.P. Morgan and Rockefeller starting out and not being accepted yet by "old New York" people. I like seeing how New York came to be after the Civil War. I also love that I get see African Americans who actually had servants and did well for themselves. I love that I get the feel for how Downton Abbey was but in the American way.
Miss Peggy Scott is my favourite character and the actor playing her is so well written. Also, I’m happy to hear that there was a Black writer on the show.
The reason that I was interested in watching the show was initially due to Baranski as being a show runner! I have enjoyed her since The Birdcage as she captured my admiration at that moment!! So far, the show has exceeded beyond my expectations, even though I never watched Downton Abbey!!
Really enjoy this show and the history of that era. I've seen a bunch of these mansions in Newport and several in NYC and they fascinates me every time.
I had two reasons to start watching this show - Christine Baranski and Julian Fellowes. I have not been disappointed. The writing is exquisite, Aunt Agnes' one-liners cut like a knife and the costuming and sets are a visual pleasure. Lord Fellowes has done it again.
Thus far I like Downton a bit better, but I've also watched five (six? I can't remember) seasons of Downton so need this to have some time to develop. That said, the costumes and sets are absolutely gorgeous
I think Downton had more lovable characters. That’s the difference between The Gilded Age and Downton Abbey. Also, the servants’ stories aren’t as interesting in my opinion. However, I still love The Gilded Age, can’t wait to see how it develops moving forward.
i am loving this program sooo much! I love how Each character is portrayed. Carrie Cooms is what i want to be when i grow up. And there is no one like Christine Baranski. WOW!!
The trailers for "The Gilded Age" sucked me in. Glad it did. It's such a good show so far. I'm excited to see where it goes. Definitely have to get myself a George Russell. haha.
I’m enjoying watching the Gilded Age. The storyline is outstanding! I’m getting invested in the characters. The rift between old money and new money is a very interesting concept! I love watching period dramas. I would love to pretend getting into a Time Machine and being one of the characters in the show. The clothes are very opulent!
I've been waiting for it to come out and now that it finally has it does not dissapoint! My sister and I are obsessed with the show and are always anxiously awaiting the next episode...❤
Though I never watched Downton Abbey, I ❤️ The Gilded Age!!!! I initially started watching solely based on the fact that Baranski is in the cast, as I have adored her since The Birdcage! But now I have been drawn in and grow with excitement EVERY single Monday evening❣️I didn’t know it’s been picked up for a second season, but I am thrilled to hear this news!!!! Well done HBO!!!!!!
it's been pretty entertaining so far and not at all like downton abbey (although there are some minor similarities with the characters). really glad it got renewed for a second season
I'm loving the show, so far. I'm hating the comments that deem the show that "ridiculous w-word that means the opposite of sleep" because of Peggy's character . 🙄😂
@@susanlandsman9572 I thought of that but like, why don't you say woke or use another word that means the same thing instead of being confusing? I thought it would be something amazing to add to the dictionary of rated R words.
It's woke when diversity is FORCED into a narrative. But in this case, the black elite was an integral part of the Gilded Age due to the Reconstruction Era that preceded it. I think anyone that considers Peggy's role as woke does not know the context of history at that time.
Yes! I always look forward to see what Bertha's wearing. I love the opulent fabrics. That gold fabric in Mrs. Astor's gown when she was on the staircase is stunning!
Very much enjoying it...it's partially filmed in Troy, NY, just a few miles from me...fun seeing buildings I've passed countless times. And the costumes are glorious.
I thought the first episode got off to a somewhat slow start. And, I kept seeing details that seemed to echo Downton Abbey. However, I have watched all episodes and I'm hooked, and am enjoying the series very much. While I think The Gilded Age is very good, I do think that Downton packed a stronger wallop. By the way, as a person interested in interior design, I have to say that the furniture and room settings are fantastic!
Love this show. I was so disappointed that season 2 isn't out yet. I’ve rewatched season one twice already. I'll keep watching it until Season 2 comes out!😊
I am watching it and enjoying it. The metropolitan setting reminds me more of Upstairs Downstairs than it does of Downton Abbey. Upstairs Downstairs also mixed fictional characters with real people. The sense of old money clashing with new is fascinating as is the 1880s New York setting.
The show is OK. Watched the whole season, and look forward to season two. Maybe due to high expectations I am not getting the same vibe as with DA. I do admire Julian Fellowes writing and creativity. Just don't go woke.
I was initially invested in the show. However, I am frustrated by the dark lighting in some scenes. I am at episode 4 and I am not sure if I will return.
the most important reason is; this is the beginning of the corporate takeover of America, this microcosm of New York City Elites is responsible for all of the problems we are facing today as soveriegn human beings in America. I do really love this show, it is smart and beautiful although a few shades too "clean". I am in love with the architecture and the opulance of the set designs. Its almost like being ... home in a sense. Not the opulance but the period and the place. Of course, there were far more dark undercurrents to the real people meny of the characters were based on. Quality entertainment.
I watched DD too many times too count lol but this show, it’s a bit of a slow get into kind of love. I am curious how it’s going to go. Oh and the Russell’s will never let a maid in between of them🤙🏽
I’m watching. I like some parts a lot. It started out very slow and the acting wasn’t great in the first episode. Seems like actors are more comfortable as their characters develop. It’s not a bad a show. Its some great escapism tv.
Let's not forget Brooklyn wasn't apart of whats now known as Newyork it was still the republic of Brooklyn until 1898. Henceforth why Peggy states we are both Newyorkers now ( Manhattan)
Of course the comparison to Downton is inevitable, and I think valid. People will be drawn in by the similarities but the show is already showing it’s going to be dealing with more directly American issues. It’s set earlier than Downton, and the New York society is already proving to be more pompous than Downton, if possible…lol
Yes alot of the actors and actresses are Tony award winners it's like a who's who of Broadway 🤣 any how the Gilded Age does include some actual characters who did live back then Mrs. Astor was queen of New York with her select 400 parties, Mrs. VANDERBILT was new money but she broke her way into society much like Mrs. Russell is doing and became the queen of the new money crowd and she had a larger ballroom than Mrs. Astor so some old money flocked to her as well🤣 Clara Barton was the real founder of the red cross. And much as how Mrs. Russell is suppressing her daughter Mrs. Vanderbilt did the same to Consuela until she was able to catch a coronet from across the pond.

@@TheeKookyWildflower it's so good and it already got renewed for a second season
Yes, ironically I’m currently learning about it in APUSH
Nope. Never heard of that show.
I'm really enjoying this show so far. Glad it was renewed for a second season.
Miss Peggy Scott is my favourite character and the actor playing her is so well written. Also, I’m happy to hear that there was a Black writer on the show.
I loved that scene where Maryanne's aunt says, "Money is not everything" and Maryanne responds with "Not if you don't have it."
Coon and Baranski are reason enough to watch this show, but I throughly enjoy Morgan Spector's character as well
I never heard of Carrie Coon before but have been a fan of Baranski since "Cybill".
@@hectorsmommy1717 I liked her since “The Leftovers “
@@johntodd6055 Haven't seen her in anything and never heard her name before. This is my introduction.

The Gilded Age is just a stunning production. I just LOVE the way Carrie Coon's Mrs. Russell sashays into a room.

Yeah, Julian Fellowes is a "slow burn" kind of writer; I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone grows over the next seasons.
I think Downton had more lovable characters. That’s the difference between The Gilded Age and Downton Abbey. Also, the servants’ stories aren’t as interesting in my opinion. However, I still love The Gilded Age, can’t wait to see how it develops moving forward.

Aunt Ada is such a cool character. She’s so adorable and supportive.

Can we get a Peggy spin-off? “Bedford-Stuyvesant”. Her life in Brooklyn. 🏆
I Love the show! I’m so glad they got picked up for a second season. Great acting in addition to the fabulous history of New York City.
I was happy when Christine Baransky is on this show. Love her!
It's refreshing to watch a series with dialogue and people. Always go period for it. They're the lot from The Good Wife and The Good Fight.
This is the show of the season for me. Love EVERY element.
The show is wonderful and I can’t wait for Mondays
loving the gilded age
the set & costumes are just 😍

I didn't think I'd like this show as I couldn't get into Downton Abbey but I'm hooked and in love with this show, it's AMAZING!!!
I plead to the writers of The Gilded Age to make Mr Russell stay a faithful husband.
Watching live since episode 1. Loving it and loving the different aspects of life shown.

I like peggy's character! It's awful that people take such issue with the show highlighting a very real part of American history such as segregation

Love the program....the costumes, scenery. Acting is part excellence
This show is so enjoyable! Loving the contrast of the two aunts in addition to the monetary class influences.
Not only does Peggy board the train lastly, they are next to the 'furnace.' I enjoy this programme.
This is one of my favorite recent shows. I've finished the season and I'm so sad as I want more.
