Why 144 years? It is combination of Saturn in Kumbh and Jupiter in Vrushabh. This combination returns after 144 years because of their cycle of 29.24 and 12 years respectively. One should know jyotish to understand it. This is the reason why Jyotish is called eye of a Ved.
