@@ChrisHongArt 2 years later, your dream came true cause of the hard work you put in place. Congradulations are your hard work. Never forget to look back on how far you have come.
The anxiety you described is what all artists go through. It feels great to hear it rather than hearing "perfection" through working a piece. It is beautiful and you inspire me everyday.
Your customer loooks really happy :D I love the turquoise undertone and the "true white" spot in his eye. Keep it up and thanks for sharing the process and your thoughts.
I totally understand what you mean when you talk about puzzle pieces not quite fitting together. Can totally relate. Thank you for such an insightful video!
It came out great! I know what you mean about charging fair prices for commissions. I struggle with the same issue. You don’t want to charge too much but then you want to charge what you are worth as well. The struggle is real!
Your watercolour works are so impressive! The amount of realism in this piece.... wowwww I love how you create so much depth even in those dark areas like the nose and eyes, which can easily turn out so flat. I too love those turquoise accents you've added in! :)
As a portrait artist myself I totally know where you're coming from! I was nodding and saying "YES!" the entire video. 😂 Nobody I talk to seems to understand the struggles of portrait work. They think it's just a super easy/fun hobby where you simply put brush to paper and magic happens, haha. But it's hard! Usually about halfway through I want to throw the portrait across the room...but I push through, and finally having something to be proud of once it's done makes it all worth it. Lol, until I realized I didn't charge enough for the time it took. I FEEL YOUR STRUGGLE. 😊💕
I don't know if you're gonna read this, but I want to tell you how much I appreciate the hardwork you put in your channel. I've been watching you since the beggining and I can relate so much with your difficulties and struggles in a way that seeing you overcome all these obstacles makes me (and I don't think I'm alone here) so inspired to chase my own goals and become a better artist myself. I love to see you grow and I love to hear your stories but the best thing is to see the reality you bring to us, how hard it is, the emotions that come with it... You're a true inspiration for a lot of us out here so, again, thank you for taking the time to show us a little bit of your carreer as an artist so that we ourselves can be motivated to chase our own goals. Much love from Brazil ❤
I liked this video because it shows the struggle every one of us artist faces, whether we're amateur artists like myself or professional artists like you. We all struggle with self doubt but what you've shown us is if we push through the fear and not give up we are capable of producing something we are happy with or can be proud of. Thank you.
Maaaaan, I love this video! I definitely relate to so many of the things you said here. The "mushy stage" talk had me laughing a bit because I totally feel that. I’m so excited to hear that you’re feeling free and open to explore and create a structure for yourself. I adore the ways you use blues and greens in your paintings, my goodness. ❤️❤️
Thanks Arleesha!😘🧡 I guess the blues/greens tend to stand out a bit since I predominantly like to use the warm colours as the base :D happy to hear someone understands the mushy stage!
These two doggies are so lucky!! They seem very sweet and friendly. My friend has a french bulldog as well and she is such a cutie, she loves to play and run everywhere on her short legs 💗 I love watching your preparations for the actual drawings!! I also find it very helpful to draw several sketches of one thing, because it helps pointing out details and characteristics we didn't see at the first glance.
I completely resonate with what Chris said during this project. I love this painting. I also love how candid this artist is with her inner-thoughts. This is very inspiring and freeing to listen to.
I just LOVE your use of color on white subjects so much! Recently, I did a portrait of a white pit bull (Ivy) that passed away and should have used more color in the portrait, but did use watercolor around Ivy.
Its so nice to see videos behind the process of your paintings. It really makes me appreciate the art and the struggle behind it more than just seeing a photo of the finished product. Great work!
Amazing video 💗 I love seeing the process, and you're commentary is so relatable and authentic. Thanks for making this! I am currently watching your drawing class on skillshare and it is SO helpful!!
omg!! i've followed your art online for a while, but never came across your RUclips channel until now! Thank you so much for taking us through your process, and for sharing your struggles. I've been going through a bad slump with my self-esteem in relation to my art, and watching videos of artists saying "just do it!! it's easy! everything will be fine! Look how well i'm doing!" honestly just made things worse (personally). So to hear an artist who I admired for so long sharing their own struggles, anxieties and self-doubt in their process really helps put things in perspective and is a great motivator. Thank you
the anxiety as for not knowing what to do resonates a LOT with me lately 😭😭 the painting is beautiful! Definitely looks like a peaceful dog. I love watching your process from sketching to final ❤❤
Everything you said was just so true. And watching this really helped me with how to approach pet portraits. I really enjoyed how you explained your process instead of just a speed drawing like every one else ways does.
I couldn’t relate more to all of what you said here. So much truth, but the irony for me and my mom is, 90% if not more, of our commission work, are from pet portraits 😂
I love that you cover your preliminary sketches as well as the painting process. I also had a pet portrait commission two months ago and I wish mine turned out as well as yours.
Thank you so much for this video! I was trying to paint a horses face and it's so difficult, but watching how you painted the dogs face gave me an idea about how to paint the horse, thank you so so much for this!
May I ask how do you come up with ideas for your illustrations, then develop it and put a twist to it? It’s just so unique, pretty, and comforting like your style. I tend to get stuck for so long thinking of those ideas and how I can enhance them with twists for unique and “originality” factor that I end up wasting lots of time that can be used for doing the project instead :( 💕 Also!! I just want to say thank you very much :((( the past months I have been at my lowest, so the artist in me is also losing the motivation and interest to do art, but discovering amazing people’s art accounts here recently, you being the first one and the one whom I get a lot more drive from, i am slowly getting back on track, getting inspired and enjoy my craft little by little. i hope this goes on even when school starts already 😭 thank you so much for being there sml! I appreciate you and your art so much!! i hope everything goes well to you always 🥺💓
I'm always so surprised to hear my videos/work can have such an effect on some people, I'm really touched I was helpful to someone in any way! Actually, that's something I've been thinking about a lot lately, getting ideas for paintings! I used to have the hardest time trying to come up with things too, but I think it's TRYING to be "original" that makes it really difficult. I've been trying to take inspiration from my day to day life and it's given me a lot to work with, and also I try to draw/paint what I love, even if it's not "cool and original", and it's helped! So maybe stop trying to come up with the "best" idea, but something that excites you and makes you want to paint, because it's about something that makes you happy! :) hope that helps, keep fighting!💪🧡

I understand what you decribing at 14:36 and from a neurological perspective this seeing forms but not seeing the desired image is a result of the left hemisphere of your brain analyzing what you are doing in an attempt to verbalize the image to fit what it precieves as "dog".
