  • The Irish Raptor Study Group, BirdWatch Ireland and the Golden Eagle Trust have formed an exciting conservation partnership and collectively are coordinating the fifth national Hen Harrier Survey for the National Parks and Wildlife Service of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. The Hen Harrier Project are also playing an important role in this national survey and contributing information on Hen Harrier collected in the Special Protected Area network to allow the national population size and trends to be assessed.
This video is a workshop delivered for surveyors and volunteers participating in the Hen Harrier Survey 2022 delivered by the survey partners to provide background to the survey and information on the survey methods and data recording as well as an overview of Hen Harrier ecology. The purpose of the workshop is to ensure that all surveyors have a clear understanding of what is required and how to get started with the survey.
This workshop was held on the 23rd of March 2022 and delivered by Ryan Wilson-Parr of the Irish Raptor Study Group and supported by Marc Ruddock, of the Golden Eagle Trust and John Lusby of BirdWatch Ireland. A Question & Answer session is also included at the end of the presentation.

On the maps shown, the survey squares which are hatched are those that are allocated to surveyors, the clear squares are those that we are still looking to allocate, at the time of the workshop
