Hey buddy I mentioned this to M and would you do me a solid and do the thing with the bacon grease mixed in dry pollen and see if it helps the hives with dysentery. my guess it would heal the gut 100% it has to.
I’m from southern Indiana and tulip poplar is one of the main sources of nectar in my area…along with dandelions, purple dead nettles, Dutch clover, and occasionally black locust ( if not killed off by the frost).
I need to make splits here in Mo. , but i need a good drone population to mate my queens before i do this, winter is not over here till after Easter here...........
Emily, when you talk about artificial splits and you take the first queen out to a nuc and then later take the queen cells to nucs, what do you put back in the starter 10 frame? Does the original queen go back into what is left of her original hive?
Depends on how you want to do it. You can put her back, leave a queen cell in there to go out and get mated, or add an entirely new queen. Typically when I do that we have virgin queens that are ready for a home so I will stick one of those in there. When they already have queen cells like that they almost always accept her. Figured they probably think she’s one of the queens that emerged from their cells or found them when out swarming.
Living here in Southern Illinois I have a back yard full of black locust with surrounding neighbors with them as well. I caught 3 swarms last year and I am on the verge of trying the Demaree method this year and I am getting a little wound up because of the early warm weather. Should I hold off a little longer? I don't want to leave the queen without enough nurse bees to keep the brood warm in case of a late freeze.but I have dandelions, magnolias ,Bradford pear,hen bit, and tons of maples so I'm thinking if they will swarm its not far off. Appreciate your videos you are right on time with this one .Thank you!

Been doing queen right splits since the beginning of March. I’m seeing deeps with 9 out 10 frames of brood. Hopefully we just had our lowest temps Tuesday morning.

What do you do so the bees don't put sugar water from the brood box into the super when wet put it on in the spring? Just make sure you don't over feed?
Don’t feed syrup with supers on that you’ll be harvesting. Only feed during periods of build up and nectar dearth. Once they have enough natural resources, anything you feed will probably get stored in frames, so stop feeding prior to adding honey supers.
M will you do an experiment for me, if you have any hives that are small and might have dysentery could you take some dry pollen and mix it with bacon grease and see if they consume it and how fast, my thoughts are to heel the gut and they just mite rebound.

Your vedios are very informative and interesting. Just a little constructive criticism. Play this vedio back and listen to all the um's in it. Every time you have a pause you place an um thier. It is very distracting and makes it very hard for myself to listen to. I did finish this vedio because of the information you were giving but if it had been s standard vedio or not overly I teresti g to me I would not finish it because of the um's. I hope you recieve this as I am trying to help and not condem
had a pretty good spring basswood flow in W. NY last year, but our goldenrod also didnt really fill up any honey supers. they filled their brood boxes right out, so i didnt have to feed (yay!) but hardly got any extra

I got a hedge of Cotten esters and when they start blooming the bees will not leave them alone and it’s a long bloom

Ive been open feeding,couple weeks now, and made 2 splits,saw cups but no q cells yet,some drones about to emerge nw arkansas but yeah i may bee early
I used Oxalic Acid Heavy and 8 of my 9 hives made it here on Long Island, :) Thanks for posting.

I have a ton of tulip poplar trees here. It makes the honey really dark and earthy. Excellent honey

May I ask where you came up with this data on the queen has to patrol the whole entire high before her mating flight and after the mating flight?
