Man, you are a lifesaver! I am a 58 year old, female, disabled retiree, living alone, have no help, and have watched three hours worth of videos trying to figure out how to get that stupid gray ring off of that nozzle, and after watching your video, I had it off in 2 minutes! I have to get up at 5:30 in the morning for an early doctor's appointment, and it is 9:43 tonight. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I caused no damage, and it popped off easily. I cannot thank you enough! I was about to put it up and just leave it alone! God bless you! And, you are right, none of them showed how to get that piece off, and they all just pulled it off like it was on there with butter! I am so very grateful that you took the time to record this video and post it, and I am glad I found it! Thank you so much!
Thank you very much. Someone gave me this Vacuum cleaner, with the hose already busted. I would not have purchased it myself; it's a lousy design (possibly some Engineer's wet dream at that Company... in China, btw). Your video is simple, to the point and very explicit. It saves me lots of time. Thanks, again.
Thanks for posting your video was a big help. Instead of prising ring off I got a flat blade screwdriver blade in there using your technique then held it perpendicular and whacked it with a hammer the ring popped right off. The hose was 90% torn right where it went into the handle, used electrical tape then duct tape, reassembled, full suction is back, repair optically hard to detect.
Thank you sir....you saved me $200. I couldn't figure out how to get that collar off the handle without breaking it but it did pop right off with a screwdriver now it's all fixed...
My wife spent 1/2 hour on the Shark helpline , even after I told her that is going to be a waste of time. Go to RUclips.....they have helped me many times over the years with unusual things like this. Thanks "butter knife guy", worked like a charm.
I’ve been trying a couple of times to get that part off. The part is $90 from shark which I don’t mind paying but the vacuum like you said is near its end. I got it off. Hopefully I can get it back on. Thanks for making the video.
Thx bro, that damn ring was driving me nuts. I accidentally sucked up a small paint roller and it got lodged into the handle. Pulled the handle apart up to that damn ring. Much appreciated 👍🏼
Thanks man! This was the part I was stuck on! The other guy I watched suggested to duct tape the hose to fix it... but I hate how that looks, so getting that piece off saved my butt ^^
I tried for 10 minutes using this method but still wasn't able to make any progress. Thanks for the method was better then the previous nothing that was working at least
I tried it and found it worked after pouring a jug of boiled water over the suction ring to warm it up a bit. Before that I was just damaging the edges with the screwdriver.
I bought a newer model Rotator Lift A Way at Ollie's for $124. It's a refurb and you don't get all the accessories like you do with a new new model but it works great. They also sell refurbs on Ebay. So if you're looking for a new one...
Thanks for the tip. The only thing is that the butter knife as a tool just isn't a good idea. Small screw drivers are better. The ring is held in place by a groove in the white plastic handle all the way around, so there doesn't appear to be any pry point that is better than another. Work it off little by little till it pops over the groove.
Wait!! I've been searching for a video like this! What's inside the handle?! A copper &silver wire combo??! Connected to a small piece of metal curved 1/2 way on side of handle. What's it for & how do I reconnect it!!??? Oh, videos over.. I need help with the wire inside of the handle! I think it's a ground write off some sort die to the metal coil in hose! If you know could you please contact me. Somehow I don't know how to😕
I can't get the handle off the unit, never mind the suction ring. That will come when I can get the handle off. There is a red button that says "handle" but it doesn't seem to work. Ideas?
Then I found a wired piece that went in the handle and was soldered to the spring wire in the handle. What it does is beyond me. It does not connect to anything at the bottom where the other end goes in. Nothing touches it at the bottom. Total confusion.
Your method worked in 20 seconds compared to other videos and there are a lot less scratches and gouges. Thank you!!!
We have been messing with this for hours before we found your video. Thank you! You saved us a lot of head ache.

Took two butter knives in my case but it worked.
I curse the engineer who designed this ring.

Thanks so much for this video, I managed to vacuum up a sock and it was in the crook of the handle. Your method worked like a charm. Thanks again
Yep this was the trick... thanks. I tried prying, twisting, threatening with a hammer...
It worked perfectly!

I was about to toss my vacuum and this fix will probably give it a couple more years if not more.

Thumbs up, simple and straightforward.
Hey man your video helped this guy! Thank you for trying something new 'cuz it saved me buying a new handle assembly.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It is helpful.
That was a HUGE HELP THANKYOU !
Oh my God thank you I was about to break something. I thought that's what had to happen but what a stupid design. Thanks
How did you get the ring back on? Managed to do this bit thanks to your vid but now i can't put that back on eek
Dude! Sincerely, thank you.
Thanks man! This was the part I was stuck on!
The other guy I watched suggested to duct tape the hose to fix it... but I hate how that looks, so getting that piece off saved my butt ^^
I tried the duck tape thing...it was temporary.
Thank you so much, I was about to rage-trash the entire vaccum.
Thank you so much!!! It worked.
Thanks, I also saw that other video and thought the guy was trolling for shooting it in the darkest way possible
Sweet! You're the Man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome bro definitely was pulling my hair out trying to get it off !
THANK YOU!!!!!!! Thank you! Thank you!
THanks for trying...this busted hose must be a pretty common problem...seems like Shark should re-design this obvious flaw.
You are awesome!!
No...you are!
I tried it and found it worked after pouring a jug of boiled water over the suction ring to warm it up a bit. Before that I was just damaging the edges with the screwdriver.
I couldn't get it back on. I read this comment and put it in boiling water for a few seconds and it popped right back on. Thx
THANKS FOR BEATING YOUR'S UP SO i DIDN'T HAVE TO BEAT MINE UP
It was a learning curve
It did help. Thanks
You did fine .... thanks. 👍

Yes!!!! Thank you!!!
Thank you for posting this! What if I just want to deep clean the hose is there any point to removing it from the housing??
I wouldn't. I would just soak the entire hose and handle.
Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!
Thank you so much!!!

Tried this on an "nv500 31" model and cannot pry it up. Just damaging it more.
Thank you!

Helpful!! WHY DO THEY DESIGN IT THIS WAY!!!!
It is a pretty shitty design unless you own a vacuum repair shop then it's pure awesomeness
udaman
No....udaman
