Magnificent singing! A real basso cantante in the old school tradition. Alexander doesn't have as rich or sonorous a voice as my all-time favourite bass Cesare Siepi but he has a wonderful sense of the Italianate style. He also doesn't have any of that typical and somewhat distracting Slavic colouring that you find with Boris Christoff or Nicolai Ghiaurov. He's far more similar to basses with beautifully produced lyric voices such as Bonaldo Giaiotti or Ruggeiro Raimondi. It is a very warm, stylish voice that he uses with great sensitivity. He's quite wonderful. Thank you for posting this!

I am quite agree with you. Alexander is singing with the ancient italian technic I am teaching nowadays. Moreover he is a splendid artist as for the interpretation. The best bass singer of our days !

verdiguy This is a real baritone singing a bass role, of course he is a very good singer but that is why this sounds bad, exactly because he is the wrong voice for the part....your opinion about Christoff and Ghiaurov, shows, however, how much you understand...you need to listen more to live singing and then recordings....Cheers!

Ildar Abdrazakov es también un excelente bajo ruso. Canta en el Metropolitan, entre otros teatros.

he is obvious bass, even more than Ildar Abdrazakov .
alex`s second passagio pitch is C# , which is D# in Ildar Abdrazakov
when you distinguish baritone to bass, you must see naturally downed position and depth of sound. not thickness or heavier voice
some dramatic tenor has more heavy sound than basso cantabile.

To classifie a voice, just listen to the colour of the voice, how it sounds. Of course you need a trained ear !

downed position ? man please, even lowest bass cannot downed position, this "downed position" is fake darkening, ruclips.net/video/LU0omiGO1tg/видео.html this how the bass voice position should be.

Agree! He is a dram. bariton! Strange impression of his singing-his Philippe sounds like Boris Godunov in some provincial Russian theatre. 🎶

No bariton he is real base .Basso cantabile but I think that he is too young for Filippo ...
This is Soviet style to sing everything at the bigining ...and than stop singing 50 yrars old...
This is wrong understanding but reality
