It's my favorite from the album. I like to picture Mother Earth spawning all the complex organisms from her primordial soup during the first half of the song until it reaches the H. sapiens

It’s a hell of a jam. Probably my favorite thing about swans is that the music is just really fun and if you’re a musician you know just how fun this would be to play along with
After hearing Screen Shot I decided to give this album a try. Throughout two sittings I sat confused yet engaged and excited. Nathalie Neal was really the only track that I realized was top tier stuff on the first listen. Probably because I had gotten used to their sound by then. Now I love the whole album. It’s so multifaceted and keeps me interested and wanting to keep listen throughout all two hours. The complexities are just so genius, and the abrasiveness sounds disgusting and odd at first but it sounds so perfect once you become a fan. Still though this is the only band I never recommend to any of my friends.
I always say "maybe just the first few minutes of one of their long songs". But then I end up sitting through the entire thing without a single complaint.
they literally have nothing to do with swans lmao. science fair is the closest they've come to anything swans related and even that is largely post-rock influenced not particularly swans.
@@conjointoates this song's structure is really similar to BCNR Sunglasses, especially the part at 07:00 and the Sunglasses's second part, where after noisy chaos it suddenly goes quiet and the monotonic guitar riff comes in, then the bass, then the drums.
When ever I hear this, I like to imagine some ritual being performed with a giant bonfire where tripped out people dance around in a circle praising God and chanting Hallelujah. Such great music.
A summary of this song: This song immediately opens with an intense march-like groove with guitar lines syncopated over heavy percussion and bass. This repeats over the next few minutes turning into a hypnotic chant. The raw, primal atmosphere continues, building suspense and pulling the listener in until everything drops out giving way to a sinister drone. Slowly a massive cluster of wailing guitars build up, coming in waves all at once over top of massive hits of drum and bass. This wall of sound serves as a transition between the first and the second sections of the song. After the storm of noise dies down a simple guitar riff becomes the basis for another driving groove as well as the introduction of Michael Gira’s vocals. The groove continues to grow, adding more layers of guitar, and intensifying drums with a heavy swing feel. The vocals and lyrics continue to intensify along with the instrumental into unhinged, primal screams. The song eventually reaches a point of such intensity that it seems it can no longer contain itself and breaks apart into chaos. Suddenly all goes quiet and the listener is left suspended in an eerie drone of unintelligible voices right before every instrument comes crashing down in giant synchronized hits, over and over again, serving as the climax of the whole song. One final hit is left to ring out and fizzle into nothing, ending this gargantuan monster of a track. No one asked
