before you remove the fan/hub assembly find some cardboard to put in front of the radiator- to help protect from nicks and dents that may great a leak
Thanks bro.. i did not EVER think of using a rubber hammer.. thx
I like the simplicity. Thank you from the shade tree mechanic.
You are welcome!
Thanks ippielb . For me, 20 faithful wacks and finally broke loose. Holding the tensioner and belt tighter helps too. Harbor Freight 18" jumbo adjustable wrench works great. 230K miles on an 02 2500HD Silverado. Gitty up😃.
Don’t need no special tool for this job. That 2002 Sierra has over 520,000km on it.
Yes it helped thanks
Helpful tip**** this worked great for me came off in about 3 hits the first time i did this, a couple weeks after i had to take the fan off again and i couldn't get it, i took a vice grips and opened it up enough to clamp around the water pump pully so it would wedge on something and it wouldnt spin. Careful not to mark up the pully if u do or your belt will get wrecked. Came off easily when i was able to hold pully from spinning. Also if u dont have a wrench big enough a small pipe wrench is what i used
Well done!
what size it's the bench
Did you replace that fan as well? Just getting ready to do mine and I was curious how messed up the fan blades could be before they needed replacement?
If they are a little chewed up it's okay. But if large chunks are missing like in this video, I'd replace it.
Like Tristan said, once they get as bad as mine in the video I’d start to worry about chunks coming off and puncturing the rad. Cooling capacity drops as well with less surface area of fan the less airflow.
I had to actually take the whole fan pully out with the fan still attached. Can't even get it off with it sitting on the bench. Ordered a new fan and fan pully with bracket. Bout 500 bucks
Sounds about like my luck.
Now I'm going to be putting the old one back on back on because my truck sounds like a school bus and my fuel mileage is down by about 4 mpg
Don’t work it’s just slides on the belt dammit lol
It works, gotta give it the onion. Took three hard hits to get mine to loosen.
Yeah mine just slipped on the belt too.. have to use a screwdriver to hold it still
What worked for me is pulling on the tensioner to tighten the belt then pound on the wrench
Thanks. I was wondering if I had to do this before the belt came off. I already took the belt off. Guess I need to put it back on.
@@motocolo125 where did you put the screwdriver to hold it?
That background noise is hurting my head.
Sorry, it was extremely windy outside that day, and the gopro was doing some weird things with the audio.
