Couldn't of explained it better😂 i grew up near Cordova il. Where they hold the world series of drag racing and you can literally stand 10-15 feet from the starting line nothing can explaine the feeling you get standing that close to top fuel
I used to work at pbir here in Florida. Used to start or work the burnout box for all the nhra top fuel rails and funny cars when they would come test in the off season. The experience and feeling never got old.
+Cody King If you are standing there..its actually kinda freaky . I have been to Brainerd Nationals many times, and its amazing. It feels like a bomb exploding when they blurp the throttle.
Yeah, above 7,000hp levels of power. These engines at full tilt put out over 155 decibels of sound pressure that punches you square in the chest.. You don't hear these beasts with your ears, you hear them with your bones.
i love how everyone is gathered around like oooooh that's cool , then he blips the throttle and suddenly Depend Incontinence pants have another 50 new customers 😂😂
I like how you can tell exactly who is on the crew, and who is just a spectator at 1:28 when the driver actually hits the gas... Entire crowd almost jumps out of their skin, but none of the crew even flinch. Look at the woman in the black shirt sitting in the background in the bus door on the right. Doesn't even bat an eye! Edit: Thats the most I've replayed a video in recent memory. Totally worth it to keep looping it and watch a different person each time, entertaining stuff! Everyone jumped, but the reactions afterwards are the best. Some people were giggling like kids on Christmas with what they just experienced, some almost look like they can't comprehend what just happened, others are looking around like they are expecting some authority figure to shut it down, and some are just looking for any possible way to get themselves away from the dragster.
For those of you who have never been to one of these races before It is truly an earth shaking experience! As awesome as this vid is you have to go to one of these at least once. Even in the stands a hundred feet away these rockets wreck your senses at the hit of the throttle. First time I went to one of these my beer vibrated off the bleacher!!! for those of you who know db numbers these cars put out about 155 to 160db!!!! That's louder than a fighter jet taking off standing 75 feet away!!!
90% just hear "noise" 9% hear noise and talk about pollution 1% really feels this unreal power of that engine and knows what it's able to do. compared to a daily driven car, ehh sorry, you can't compare them... i saw soda-bottles "exploding" when they pass, the air gets thin when they inhale and the earth starts shaking... you got to luv it... i do... SO MUCH INSTANT POWER
Throttle whacks to set the clutch are an experience that are not to be believed unless witnessed live and up close. This video does a good job showing just that !!! After I met my wife-to-be in 1988, I took her to Gainesville for the Gatornationals. We were able to stand about 10-12 feet away from a TF performing the warm-up and driveline check, and she didn't cover her ears or even flinch when they blipped the throttle. I thought right then: "This is the girl for me !!!"
You can feel the power just watching this video. It shakes the tri-pod, the windows on the truck vibrate, the tarp flaps, and the people flinch in unity! You can practically see the shockwave shoot outward through all these objects. It’s like dropping a bomb.
This never gets old! Im supposed to sleep for work in the morning but nope! I'm sitting here watching people jump lol Man nothing beats a nitro warm up
RCDude haha try me, I’ve been drag racing all my life bud, you dumbasses can’t compare a top fuel machine to a fucking bike haha that’s like trying to compare a crop duster to a fighter jet, and yes I do know what I’m talking about, if you have questions ask me, I’ll answer them
One of the best vids on here to show peoples reactions to the mind blowing power. You can hear these cars but people don't realize you can also feel the sound. The smell is a whole other animal. I got choked out in Dallas a few years back. The breeze was wafting the nitro it down the alley, hence Nitro Alley, towards me while 4 of them were warming up. I tried to hold my breath and should have known better. Took a gasp of air and yeah, you probably know the rest. It's officially in my blood now and I love it!!!
I miss this so much. 49 now. My dad took me to the NHRA races all the time when I was a kid. Englishtown NJ. I met so many drivers and I got their autographs. Dan Pastarini, Don Garlits, Bob Glidden, John Force, Gary Ormsby to name a few. Being in the pits though like these people are when these things fire up is a whole new life experience you will never forget lol. Eyes burn from the fumes, your ears are gone 🤣 and when that engine revs like that, the little burst they do. It feels like the ground beneath you disappears.
This footage is exceptional. I love the shockwave and the immediate response from the spectators. This machine is absolutely astounding. I have been to 12 nascar races and the first 3 or 4 full speed laps with all the cars running together is deafening but they don't compare to the sound this monster creates.
And that's just at idol and a couple of blips. Now Imagine how loud it is under load at wide open throttle. Just a peek and food for thought in case your wondering how brutal these things really are.

I had the same reaction the first time I went to the U.S. Nationals with my dad. I was sitting in Terry McMillans pit. And a funny car across from us started up that made me jump.
I tried standing 50 meters behind one of these when they throttled the engine, without wearing ear protection (fucking stupid when i think back). Holy shit, i thought i was going deaf for a second, it just got louder and louder and suddenly something popped and all sounds turned to static/noise/wind. Amazing. I hear they don’t really do this anymore, except one team. I need to go to an NHRA event before the last crew stops doing it. Been there for sure many times. First time was shocking, even the idling alone, but you never quite get used to that liquid dynamite(nitro methane) explosion, and the driver(or mechanic) barely touches the throttle here. When 2 Top Fuelers "floor it" at take off, it's literally an earthquake. The reading's over 2 on the Richter scale, official readings measured at an NHRA event... This is truly wild stuff live.

Nothing against late models. I agree they sound good, but this is in a whole different level from those. One cylinder of these cars produces somewhere around 1300hp. There's 8 cylinders. That is around double the entire output of late model engines.
They can also do that to verify clutch and management system works as it should when driver slams the throttle wide open. It can be verified from datalogging after the warmup.
@@juggis you'd have to run the full program. Not what's happening here. The Butterflies are manually cracked open on the Injector Hat not the pedal. Management system is started by Wide open throttle and button being depressed under pedal.
look immediately after the second whack.. the air consumption of the compressor is so strong that even the shirts on the white tent gets to move into the direction of the dragster

That heavenly sound 👍
I hear those blips are when the driver is seating the clutch. Can anybody verify that?
They can also do that to verify clutch and management system works as it should when driver slams the throttle wide open. It can be verified from datalogging after the warmup.
@@juggis you'd have to run the full program. Not what's happening here.
The Butterflies are manually cracked open on the Injector Hat not the pedal.
Management system is started by Wide open throttle and button being depressed under pedal.
look immediately after the second whack.. the air consumption of the compressor is so strong that even the shirts on the white tent gets to move into the direction of the dragster
Even the tough guy with long hair jumped like a pink daisy when he blipped the throttle
js92css ..his girlfriend loved it
Guess I need to go to one of these!
Great video of crowd, can't even see the dragster
Clears the rope rats quite well. My son called me from 4 wide in Charlotte the first race they had.
