  • Old home video footage of a Steamtown excursion from Scranton to Pocono Summit on July 18, 1987. At this time the ambitious excursion was run by the Steamtown Foundation which operated Steamtown prior to it being acquired by the National Parks Service. During this time period, all of the excursion equipment was painted and lettered to represent the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western RR. Recently acquired at the time of this excursion was former Canadian National 2-8-2 #3254 which was repainted and lettered as "Lackawanna" No. 1271 which leads the excursion train in this video. Also appearing is "Lackawanna" #880 (an ex_CB&Q SD-9) to provide extra power for the heavy excursion train and "Lackawanna" #514 (an ex-NKP GP-9) pulling another excursion train.
During this time, Steamtown Foundation ran an ambitious schedule of excursion trains that had two different trains leaving Scranton and Pocono Summit stations at the same time and they met at Moscow. At Moscow, each train exchanged the rear portion of their consists to take riders who only purchased a roundtrip to Moscow back to their original point of origin. This video covers portions to Pocono Summit.

I liked when that steam train was whistling, It was the most iconic train whistle in the world and some people use recordings of it in videos that might involve trains since 2000 to today. I really enjoyed this video.
