Love it! Going to put one in the bridge position of a guitar I'm building with a widerange in the neck! Would love one to fit in a telecaster bridge as well 😁
Gold foils are a great departure from the typical strat or gibson stuff. I have a 60's decca with them in it. Better than you think, until you try them.
The original 'gold foil' Guyatone pickups (that these are made to resemble) used rubberized magnets, whereas these use AlNiCo V rods, according the website. Why not just make them as the Guyatone were made, but to fit Fenders? If they can make these, I'm sure they can make a decent attempt.
Exactly, they're not 'gold foils' except that they have some gold colored foil and holes punched in the covers. Vintage gold foils (and legit repos like Lollars) use completely different construction, magnets, etc.
@AZCobraman, my understanding is that the traditional construction of gold foils uses a lot of space, which can't be fitted into a singlecoil sized casing. At least, that's what I read in a pickup manufacturer's site as a reason why they don't offer gold foil in that size. Bummer, cuz I wanted to try some on my tele.
+fivefive computer I'm with YOU!! The GREAT vintage sound tends to come from pickups which have lesser output. Replicating a "vintage" pickup with more output is defeating the purpose, isn't it?
you are so right!! i just don´t get it, talking about the qual of a pickup is on thing, a damn commercial for crappy fx is another thing. would you people please make your mind up as of what to do?
Be Careful before you order. I have installed 15 - 20 sets of Strat pickups over the years. These ship with flat bottom screws and the holes in the fiber pickup base are closed with wax and not pre-threaded for the screws. GFS should ship these with self-tapping tapered screws. I have good hands and worked on a lot of guitars. This goof is a bad one for GFS since it sets up a customer for damaged pickup winding wire and other annoyance in installing a set of pickups. All they had to do was think it through and use tapered screws during development. Stupid GFS mistake and without a decent answer by email, I will return the unused pups for a refund. Customers want parts that install simply and without makeshift fixes.
it would take no drilling, no effort, a perfect and easy install and GFS would maintain good relations and repeat business from customers if the pickups had suitable screws. And they would not have a smartass like you sticking your nose into a comment that helps other guys who want to try these pickups.
Nah, though your point is a valid one, the answer you recieved is also another valid point as well. It's nice of your to call it out so other people that also think of it a a problem might be warned, but don´t loose your oportunity to respect others. Have a nice day
MH : Some people are too stupid to use sarcasm constructively. The pickups are made in such a way as to make it tricky to install them. I pal around with Lindy's luthier and repair/setup guys who are Lindy's friends in Richmond. I have worked on my guitars during 25 years and have good hands. The pickups mentioned are very good sounding, but are tricky to install. MYOB, MH
You have some serious mojo and bite going on in those. Your demos are much better than Earl and the other guy that plays the same 10 licks in every single video. Gonna look into buying some stuff from GFS.
Lol I want to get a Gretsch sound from the bridge in my strat, would this be a good alternative or should I get a single coil sized humbucker for that? I loved the tone btw
These Gold Foil pickups are a completely new category. They are VERY good. They have a very hih definition. I think they will become the next generation of pickups. It's apity you made a demo of them with a bunch of crappy pedals we don't care.
Creeper Freck The numbers refer to the resistance of each pickup. All other things being equal, the higher the number, the higher the resistance, caused by more wire in the coil of the pickup. Again, with all other things being equal, this means more output power from the pickup. Therefore, an 8k pickup (meaning 8,000 ohms) would be louder than a 7k pickup (7,000 ohms). Higher output pickups are usually used close to the bridge of the guitar, with lower output pickups being used close to the neck. This is done to provide a similar output volume between the bridge and neck pickups, because the string has a wider physical oscillation by the neck compared to by the bridge. A louder pickup near the bridge compensates for the lower amount of oscillation (and therefore lower volume) of the string near the bridge.
I tried the goldfoils on my 62’ slab rosewood super parts Strat. (Blender circuitry) They sound good but nothing to write home about, IMHO. (I like classic Strat tones.) I’m gonna give them some time but the Slick 65’ pu’s were the closest to what I was looking for so far on this particular Strat. (I’ve tried GFS Slick 65, “Jimi” RS, Lipsticks & gold foils.) Bare Knuckle slab board pickups are expensive, but I might have to try them. I was hoping cheaper pu’s with correct components would get me to Jimi / SRV tones with blender Mark Knoffler tones available if I back the vol off a tad. Is that too much to ask? “GOSH!”
can anybody please tell me WHY guitarfetish removed Kazakhstaim from ship list, they used to have it before. i have written to them many times asking to add my country - no action at all. really pity, so many stuff i want to buy but not able to....
These are just basic standard design pick-ups with a screen under the cover. The screen does nothing at all to alter the sound or performance of these otherwise common, cheap pickups.. Don't be surprised if they sound exactly like a $10 Chinese pick-up.
You should do all the videos for your products. It really makes a difference when you can get this information before buying.
Your getting a lot of useful sounds there!
I like your descriptions, not to technical, nor mystical, - very practical.
Love it! Going to put one in the bridge position of a guitar I'm building with a widerange in the neck! Would love one to fit in a telecaster bridge as well 😁
Wow! I'm amazed at how awesome they sound!
Good sounds. I just picked a set of 3. Looking forward to hearing for myself.
Gold foils are a great departure from the typical strat or gibson stuff. I have a 60's decca with them in it. Better than you think, until you try them.
Great dirty demo. Loved that single coil distorted sound. Usually strats are a little too sharp on the bridge.
What about mixing gold foils with traditional Strat pickups. Maybe put gold foils in the bridge and neck and a standard pu in the middle position.

They sound good and I like the look. I may consider these for a future build I'm planning. Thanks for the demo!👍😎🎸🎶
the great thing about the old tiesco's is that they are low output
+fivefive computer I'm with YOU!! The GREAT vintage sound tends to come from pickups which have lesser output. Replicating a "vintage" pickup with more output is defeating the purpose, isn't it?
But these are low output.
are they?? thats kind of what im trying to figure out. i want a high out put teisco sound for my strat.
joe alanouf yes the original posters are idiots
Try doing a demo with a DRY clean and overdriven sound, please.
you are so right!! i just don´t get it, talking about the qual of a pickup is on thing, a damn commercial for crappy fx is another thing. would you people please make your mind up as of what to do?
bahuso&friends offer him some money instead of bitching
nice sounding pickups....very nice, clean sounding
My Teisco Vision rocks,it's such a versatile guitar!
Oh my...What is this madness jay!? you've done it again :)
How about Gold Foils for Jazzmaster next!
Gold foil hummers. He just showed them!
How about Gold Foils For Teles next!
They are working on this!
Thanks for the review. I wonder if you have a diagram so I can connect these pickups to my stratocaster?
I don't think these sound like traditional Teisco Gold foils much. They don't sound bad, just different, and maybe that's what was intended.
Sounds wonderful
Great sounding pups.....now plug into that BF Bassman!
5% talk 95% sound.
They sound great.
Can you guy at GFS make a video demoing The wide field pickups?
Be Careful before you order. I have installed 15 - 20 sets of Strat pickups over the years. lol you couldn't be bothered to drill 2 little holes? it would take like 10 seconds and zero effort
it would take no drilling, no effort, a perfect and easy install and GFS would maintain good relations and repeat business from customers if the pickups had suitable screws. Some people shouldnt be allowed near tools.

Ry Cooder pickups.

Please run them into a Fuzz Face, and a Marshall....looking for some serious mojo to replace these Area 61 67 58's!!
+Purplexi If money is not object try Zexcoil pickups. They're great, you can get any sound you want from them.
Or just pick em up for less the 30 bucks
pickup review that sends the signal through a bunch of cheap pedals and doesn't mic the amp.. why..
Pussy,, stop crying
Sounds better than standard Strat single coils.... to my ear.

Question. What Pots are needed? 250k or 500k?
We typically recommend 250k for these pickups.
Why do you put gold foil in the pickups and what does it do? Would you say these are brighter than vintage?
Nice!
hey whats the intro to this ?
How do they compare to the Ry Cooder gold foils he use's ? I think he use's a Tesico ?
Thank You
All I know is, they don't work the same way. The originals had rubberized magnets, these use AlNiCo V, so standard single coils.
Maybe you should put those in one of the Slick guitars. Like maybe the SL 57 and let's hear the difference between those and the factory pickups😠😠😠😠
Bro, I want all the GFS stuff to be reviewed like this but how about you work on your video setup.
Song at the beginning?
So basically turn your strat into a tele :)
Wtc delay before the overdrive? Nice tone though
hay any one what is the different in a 6.5k 7k an 8k in the pickups the web don't explean will?

Are they noiseless or hummers?
not noiseless = hummers, not humbuckers (tee-hee) headphones confirm this in the vid
Are GFS pickups made in USA?
Korea I'm pretty sure.
@@Thoracius Thank you!
designed in the US but made overseas.
Jay, I’ll buy that “nothing special” amp from you at a nothing special price, since my playing is nothing special, anyway.
can anybody please tell me WHY guitarfetish removed Kazakhstaim from ship list, they used to have it before. i have written to them many times asking to add my country - no action at all. really pity, so many stuff i want to buy but not able to....
+Alexie P Your country does not exist.
+ollhashedfetish this is not a very polite answer, just think before you say or write any fucking thing.
Is that the same country as the Republic of Kazakhstan?
yes it is
@@alexiep7972 hey man, it's not our fault you live in a fictional country.
low or high out put??
joe alanouf If they're like the old ones, quite low.
i can live iwth that. good for recording and maybe il use life. i play in a high out put kind of band but my back up can use it life. they sound cool
they sound different. And in this case different is good.
There's no way this can be that close to a real gold foil, there's just not enough space to replicate that kind of geometry.
A pickup company demoing their pickups with effects.....does not inspire confidence in their product....
Bonita Bromeliads ok boomer
Most GFS pickups are bs. They just try to make them look cool but underneath they're almost all the same.
You'd have to be on crack to buy these.
These are just basic standard design pick-ups with a screen under the cover. The screen does nothing at all to alter the sound or performance of these otherwise common, cheap pickups.. Don't be surprised if they sound exactly like a $10 Chinese pick-up.
