Never heard of this race before. This guys has a lot of passion...and that's what I love hearing.
This is the best episode of The Downshift yet! Keep up the good work!!!
King of the Hammers is the world's BEST race!
these are some of the best off roaders in the world
"GEN Right Off Road builds and preps the buggy in Semi Valley, CA."
-Ron
"The King of the Hammers race is in Southern California, two hours outside of Palm Springs, at Johnson Valley Off -Highway Vehicle Area. The BLM (government agency) website has details and times when the park is open to the public."
-Ron
GOT TO LOVE THOSE ULTRA 4s AND WHAT THEY ARE CAPABLE OF
No way, Tony should host a show on Motor Trend, very interesting man to listen to.
I love KoH. More of that action please!
Holly crap and also this video make me "hungry" to play an old video game, FUEL !
I dont want a veyron. I want one of these. The badass level is off the charts.
A guy I know has raced twice in KOH with a heavily built rig and didn't finish either. It's indeed a tough race. But still it would be a blast to drive in.
"The cost to build this race buggy is $150,000 USD."
-Ron
If you have done this before you appreciate all the talk
Those tires are so sweet.
Again, and Im not tired of writing this, "This is how Top Gear
US should be" period.
never heard before, awesome
Pretty cool race.
good luck next year broski... tough break
King of the hammers, ware bad ass rock crawling meets head to head racing... fun
I bet it can .. that car can do everything :)
Looks like a fun ride lol
@motortrend- Alright thanks for the info I just might have to go watch
There is a link to specs on genright website. Ive seen it in their shop and its pretty sick! Go 805!
He is running custom Currie Rockjock 70's for axles and I believe he has a built TH400.
This is a custom built 427 LS3
BAD ASS!
I probably laughed a little too hard at that. : )
HAHAHA 2:52 jeep helping the "unlimited" race truck up a bank lol O|||||||O
I WANNA SEE BATTLESHIP
Johnson Valley, California
Tony!!!!!!!!
What an awesome race where does this take place every year?
The ones that can admit their mistakes and improve on it are the real winners. The losers are the ones that blame the other teams or find some other excuses.
He keeps calling it a car!
I would defiantly try this provided someone else built the car
Thank You! How do you not know or feel this. Sloppy mistake for professionals. 35 man team.....all on break
Codemasters should put this in Dirt 4!
Considering there are no car parts, just truck parts, it's an off road truck.
You don't need to dodge bushes! :))
I know right!!!
my dad is tony pellegrino...so i must know it exstists! hahaha
Exactly
Motortrend, check out Nelson's Racing Engines, they have a buggy pretty much exactly like this but with a fairly ridiculous 1750 horsepower 427 engine
i hate watching these videos the closest ill get to offroading like this is on my DH bike
lol, Shumacher would likely fail so hard at a race like this. ALL of his races take place on a perfectly smooth track, in mostly good weather with excellent visibility, and they don't last for more than about 2hrs. Not to mention that there's pretty much nothing more advanced than an F1 car that's not exclusively for the military.
Put him in one of these buggies, in that environment, for 8hrs, and you might as well have dropped him on Mars. But it'd be fun to watch all the same.
1. we didnt not check the locker it was a o-ring that blew so the locker didnt engage... 2. it wasnt the first obstacle. the was almost 70 miles into the race.. it was just the first hard obstacle.. all the trails before that were going down hill. you dont need a locker to go down hill.
He's saying the Daytona 500 doesn't even have 100 drivers.
Cool
My ass he is. He's the best F1 driver, and he only has that title because Aryton Senna died in 1994. Shummy is the best driver when he's on a perfectly smooth track, in a car that's more technologically advanced than just about anything short of a fighter jet, in a race that lasts about 2 hours, tops.
Put him in something like the King of the Hammers race, and he'd probably end up breaking both himself and the buggy.
He may be the best in the world right now, but only in a certain context.
no shit...i thought it had 500 drivers!!
I bet Area 51 security have a few of those that they drive every day.
there already is a series for it... Ultra4 series...
I hate that sport also but you have to admit they are the best at turning left
As for the Daytona 500...And? When did I say anything about the 500? And even in the video, they weren't talking about the drivers themselves; they were talking about the NUMBER of drivers in the D500, and how it compares to the number in the King of the Hammers. D500 = 43, KotH = 100+. THAT'S what the guy in this vid was talking about. He didn't say anything about the Daytona 500 featuring the "best drivers".
yep...thats fuckin bad ass!!
car, Sheesh. Is that the best you can come up with?
ya... that is what he said cause its true...
thats never happend to us in the 3 years weve had the car so we didnt think that would happen... we swapped axles the day before the race and someone just over tightened the o-ring that engages and dis-engages the locker... so it blew the o-ring and no o-ring=no locker...
Axial Wraith :D
agreed...
Can my Honda Civic do this?
so its a money pit class, those who have more money can get more HP and full floater axles, a larger team and and ect to take the win
Cool race, but just doesn't size up to the awesome Baja!
How do you forget if you have 4 wheel drive?
ya but do u also have an LS3, a larger tranny to sustain it, 3.0" tripples and 2.5" coils on every corner of your vehicle?... u were a smartass about the ford 9" full floater, but point still with an unlimited class is those who can afford more will have the higher advantage
are these cars street legal? I just hate the traffic :P
i would just race a supercharged polaris rzr and call it a day
what engines do they have?
how in the hell do you forget to check four-wheel-drive?
ya... it was a technical error... never happend to us before... :(
whats the name of the beat at the start?
i wish...
... Well, yeah. What is it then?
weird i didnt know you needed a "money pit" to run full float axles.. i have them and make a fraction of what these pro drivers make.
how much will a buggy like that cost me
Who pays to have the car built?
yall didnt have 4 wheel drive???? hope someone didnt get fired
Are you trying to scare me?
How do I now they are 100 best drivers is Michael Shumacher with them?:))))))))))))
wheres tim cameron ?????????????????
Auch! - well better luck next time.
If you don't know about offroading it sounds like he just forgot to check it sounds like he just forgot a part...like forgetting to put gas in the car, or something. Knowing what he's talking about, I'm sure that's not even remotely true.
Let me get this straight...you come in second the previous year then somehow forget to check whether or not you have a front locker working and bow out of the race at the first obstacle? Now you tell me that next year you will will win because you know what it will take, didn't you know from your placing last year? Sorry but this video was the first real letdown of this series. I guess you can't win them all.
indy 500 does
baja and this are 2 completely different races you cant really compare them baja is long and fast this is a shorter race and more intense terrain but baja is the most open race you can have anyone can enter and you see 1960 vw beetles against million dollar trophy trucks were do you ever see that?
you know whats funny... id love to see you get in that car an win king of the hammers... cause it sounds like u dont know about anything offroad... thats whats funny
Hmmm really nice vid and cool cars.
But the; "I did´nt realise a that time that we did not have a front Locker" makes me go a bit like Whaaat !?! - 35 man team, 2nd place last year and the driver dont´ know if the car has a front locker (unless it was due to a technical error) i´ll say shame on You.
UMMM... he didnt forget the locker wasnt working!!! u know... the thing that makes the front end locked? do you know anything about off road? sorry but... he even said it in the video.
noo... no one did...
oh fuck
Awww, whittle man want more pictures and less talky talk?
@onoff314 Lol right there goes 7 minutes of my life I'll never get back
it bugs me that he calls it a car 0.o
hes my dad... so id know.... our is worth about 250,000 for the car... 300,000 race ready
Less talk !!!!
You said "best DRIVER of all time", period. That's only the case in F1, and NOTHING else. The closest he's ever gotten to something like the King of the Hammers is some ridiculous "indoor offroad" races. What's the point of an off-road race when it's still under perfectly controlled conditions? Weak Sauce. If you put him in this race, he'd fail. Just like if you put one of these drivers in an F1 race, they'd fail. Gotta keep the context.
Thumbs up if you didn't know this existed
well u need help then....
not even close to the same thing buddy. hammers has a higher attrition rate than the 1000 over way more intense terrain, but nice try
Hes only the owner of genright and builds his own buggies.. Yup i guess he has no experience in this sport.. Hes only been living in the desert since he was a kid... Oh and Robby Gordon broke too... he must be a terrible driver huh..
