- I learned so much from J.D. Huitt during a recent trip to Normandy. For those of you who already follow his channel, @TheHistoryUnderground you know J.D. has a unique way of sharing history with his audience - I can confirm this in person as well! He brought us to so many places we could've easily missed, like this German bunker near the Normandy American Cemetery, perched above Omaha Beach. I quickly put a mic on him to catch some of what he was sharing in an impromptu interview ~ I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

I'm a long time sub of JDs. Love his channel and all that he shares with us. Wonderful human being! I have been lucky to have visited Normandy. My grandpa fought there, lost his leg in N France, Sept '44. My dad is an AF vet, I'm an AF vet. I love how much JD gives praise to those who sacrificed so much for ALL of us! Safe travels.
God bless you and your family's service and sacrifice. Truly.
Been a follower of JD's for a few months. I have learned so much from him. He is amazing
I was at Normandy for the 75th anniversary and our tour guide did an amazing job but I’ve learned immensely from JD and Paul Woodage.
Never been but your on site videos and narrative help me see the ground as I read books on this subject. Rock on JD!!
Good point on the position of the bunkers. Anyone who ever served in the services may understand the positions of foxholes. So that each man is firing out the corner of the foxhole, usually two with an embankment in on their side. Their field of fire is cutting diagonally across in front of the neighboring foxhole, as likewise the neighboring foxhole field of fire is front of theirs. As a solders the concept was hard to understand, but I think now it makes more sense.
Must’ve been terrifying for the German solders manning those bunkers. At sunrise to look out and see thousands of ships and then the bombardment started.
They were about to meet their maker 😊
I love jd,very knowledgeable man.
Thanks for these
Hello, J.D. I watch your videos on RUclips about your work on plastic model kits! You’re a great person and a big thanks for sharing this video!🥰🥰🥰❤️♥️❤️🇨🇦😎
Been told by our tour guide at Normandy, lines on the concrete wall served as acoustic damper
Yes, this is correct!
I’m a huge fan of JDs channel ~~~ he is brilliant
Great stuff.
Thank you for posting this and for the excellent content that you bring us.
It is appreciated.
Interesting very interesting
Big Red 1 is headquartered in Manhattan, KS. You can't miss it from the interstate. They have a huge water tower emblazoned with the "Big Red 1" logo.
Thanks for the video. I finally got it to play. This tour is interesting.
I've got a bullet round, which has to be US, that I was fortunate enough to find down in the sand by the concrete at that very same bunkers main gun port. Under the Engineer memorial, that's the same bunker, back in 85.
When I first read your comment, I misread it as "I've got a bullet wound".. I am so glad my eyes need a break. Your comment is way much cooler.
JD is taking his love of derelict concrete to other channels. I’m interested to see what this channel is about.
Good job, JD. I hope you were able to use my maps and photos.
I think those patterns on the wall were made to break up sound.
Think maybe those marks in the walls were for sound deadening, more than camo.
Who was the architect of those bunkers?
OrganizationTodt.
Not taking away anything from courageous leaders such as Cota and Dawson, one has to remember the vital close fire support from USS navy destroyers, some of whom beached themselves to pour enormous amounts of gunfire into these gun positions to save the infantry.
Which they did. I don’t believe the landings on Omaha would have succeeded without their help.
How many Germans survived the assault?? I have never seen the numbers of Germans survivors on D-day
It was a disaster which these men these brave common men turn into a success then victory
Many German troopers where from the east.
I've never seen smartHER channel before, but she's hella talking to the right guy. She must be pretty cause he seems a bit nervous. I've never seen him nervous before. Kinda cute, innit.
I'm getting a playback error.
Is this WN60? Trying to see from a map...but unsure.
Wasn't that the mg position?
Which, in fact, is very close to this gun position, now notable for the US combat engineer memorial erected atop.
If you're at the Omaha cemetery, looking seaward, it's to your right, just down in the dunes, above the 'draw'.
Thank you, visiting soon, have been to one spot on Omaha but will be walking along this time to take more of it in plus more elevated positions like this.
It's WN62.
@@Theakker3B Thank you. I'm currently trying to get the WNs and the five draws - their location and relation the WN's clear - getting there!
Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ…yes, but no man on this earth is worthy of praise.
Excellent video
Was at a bunker near Bordeaux about 20 years ago, it was covered with graffiti.
Where are the huge tall pill box style mg42 bunkers?
Huge tall ? Small slit style and succinct, more like.
Never existed
