Does it have Surround Sound? Do the ear cups sit flat on ur chest when you rest them? The big one you missed out was!! What does the mic sound like? ? How does the comfort of the headset fair after lets say... 2-3 hrs of play? How do you’re ears feel after several hours of game time? Hows rigid is the headset? Does it flex and bend? Thanks for the comment! This video was designed to be an unboxing and "first impressions" video, so I'm sorry I didn't go into enough detail for you...but I'd be happy to answer these for you now! Unfortunately no surround sound (...and I should have mentioned that in the review...sorry about that!). If you mean do the ear cups rotate 90 degrees to lie flat on your chest, no they don't. Mic quality is excellent...most people I gamed with online while testing these thought the mic sounded even better than the A50s. These are definitely comfortable for several hours of gaming (no ear soreness)...but even the best headphones need to be taken off at a certain point to give your head (and ears) a rest. The build quality is similar to the A10...pretty rigid in terms of how sturdy they are (with metal in the band), but still has some flex. Hope this helps--and if you ever watch one of our videos and feel like we missed something, let us know; we'll either address it with a response, or answer the questions in follow-up videos.
Can you plug these into the wall with like an iPhone outlet square to charge them instead of the little transmitter or do you have to use the transmitter to charge them?

Yes...the box is designed to remain plugged in...it's the same with the A50; and I can tell you from personal experience that I've never had an issue with the base station of any of my Astro headphones ever burning out:)
I got the A20s for the PS4 and I love them!! I wouldn't have minded getting a wired set but I play in the living room so a wireless headset was what I needed. If I played at a desk with a monitor a wired one would have been fine.

just hooked mine upto my laptop and it seems like it does... doesnt actually bluetooth connect to my laptop it connects to the block box and then uses usb port.... ill most likely be returning wasnt aware of this and its just unusable for a laptop.. i dont see an issue for desktop or console though theres all kinds of other cables dangling from them anyway

You may have already tied this...but just in case: there are 2 rocker switches on either side of the volume wheel...one increases game audio, one increases chat volume; take a look and make sure you don't have the chat volume turned all the way up...this would reduce your in-game volume. Hope this helps!

kedrick sam I’ve got my chat mixer on ‘mute all other sounds’ and that works fine for me, but if urs doesn’t, connect it up to a pc/laptop and download the app and then sort it from there

J_Rivers The headset itself does not have surround sound, however you can use programs on PC etc to get it. Same with PS4, if your PS4 is sending surround sound instead of stereo , you will be getting surround sound quality now it may not be as great as a50s but it is surround sound.

Well, yes and no. The A20 retails for $149, and includes everything you need for hearing and balancing game chat and audio; the base model of the A40 also sells for $149, but doesn't include a mixamp (its features will be limited without one)...so it's not really apples to apples:)

I returned my astro 20 because of too many ports to use, and then the ps4 slim doesn't have the optical port, got afterglow 9 premium and u just plug in the USB into playstation and ur done!!! Sound is crazy great!!
I don’t know how long it takes to charge but I would say less than 3 hours. You can tell when it’s done charging when the light stops being orange and returns back to red.

I just got this headset and there's something that's REALLY ANNOYING ME. I can hear my own voice, EVEN if I disable the microphone on the Sound Settings, OR unselect the "Hear device" box. Does anyone know how to solve this? I just can't find an answer for this :(
As I heard from somewhere else, you need like 1 hour to charge it up to, now let me guess, 50 % or 80%, so no Quick Charge, but still good battery life from that 1 hour charge
Very good video/review. But I took issue with one difference you omitted. The Astro A50 supports Dolby 5.1/7.1 surround sound. While the A20 only supports Dolby Digtal 2.0 Stereo Sound. To audiophiles that want a full immersion experience this is a major difference between the 2 headsets. There is a more full soundscape for gaming and movie watching that you don't get from a stereo headset.
I got an a10 and every time the audio was very bad and to make it normal I had to keep pushing the aux cord in every 2 mins plus the mic didn’t work, but I decided to give Astro a second chance so I bought the a20 and I love it

Now, a couple of questions: First, can you hear chat audio, but NOT game audio, or just no audio at all? Also, can your friends hear you when you talk? if you can hear chat, but not game audio, it could be the mixer. On either side of the volume wheel on the right earpiece, there are 2 rocker switches--pressing the top one increases chat audio, pressing the bottom increases game audio. If you only hear chat, start pushing the rocker switch that controls game audio (the button beneath the volume wheel)...this will work if the problem is related to having the headphones set to prioritizing chat audio. Let me know if this helps:)

The ONLY problem I had when I first wore my A20’s were they are a little too tight and it gave me a slight headache but that could have also been partly because I had been up for over 24 hours. But I’ve been stretching them out to wear them in over some books gonna see how they feel. I want them loose like the A10s they don’t need to clamp so much because I’m not head banging haha I’m playing some games
Maybe you could do best sub $150 wireless headsets, ie astro a20, corsair hs70, whatever turtle beach. And artics 7. And have 2 winners. Best for money (performance per $) and best overall. That would be nice. Btw. Nice video
YourTechReport I currently have the turtle beach Stealth 400 and while playing fortnite seems like I can't hear the footsteps clearly, after another cheap alternative that are a little better
At $150 it should have surround sound. On PS4 you might as well get the platinum headset and for an extra $50 on the xbox one you can get the A50's and have their flagship headset. This price point seems kinda stupid to me. You can't even feed it an analog signal either which you could have added on surround sound with like a turtlebeach DSS2 forcing you into stereo only.

I was so confused why would you leave oh one of the biggest points that the Astro a 50 is surroundsound and a 20s are not like obviously there’s a reason for the price gap don’t mislead your audience?
Great point....that is one of the differences that I should have mentioned; but there are other reasons for the price difference (including the quality of build and the charging base) that play a pretty big part:)
There are two very important things I need to know. One is what and how does the mic sound and the other is does the lack of Dolby headphone on the A20 make up with Dolby Atmos app?
Great questions! I've been told by the people I game with online that the microphone sounds great... ...and as for the Dolby Atmos software solution, I actually haven't tried it yet--but I will!! Stay tuned:)
Great question! Unlike the A10 (where each of the different headsets will work on any platform), the A20 for Xbox One will only work with the Xbox One, and the PS4 version only works with the PS4; this is because the Xbox One uses proprietary technology for wireless voice chat... Hope this helps!!
Stereo sound does give you direction. I have an old set of xo threes and play games such as rainbow six, pubg, and battlefield with them and can hear exactly where people are coming from.
How much did Astro pay you for this review? Regardless of the quality of the headset, your use of positive vocabulary made this the most biased appearing video I’ve seen on RUclips in a long time.

You can hear sound all around you, it gives the effect that there are speakers surrounding you

cause there are different functions/sounds if you hold each button vs pressing it, and I couldn't get an understanding based off the manual.

Unfortunately, they don't; they have great sound quality, but don't offer true 5.1 or 7.1 audio. The A50, however, does support Dolby Surround.

Allan Nakamassu it’s supposed to do that. It’s called mic monitoring.
Allan Nakamassu u can only change that on the A50 or A40 as they want people to buy the expensive one for better handling
Go into the astro command centre you can stop that in the mic settings

On either side of the volume wheel on the right earpiece, there are 2 rocker switches--pressing the top one increases chat audio, pressing the bottom increases game audio. If you only hear chat, start pushing the rocker switch that controls game audio (the button beneath the volume wheel)...this will work if the problem is related to having the headphones set to prioritizing chat audio.

Only problem I'm having is the volume is low for some reason. My a10s are loud as a MF. But these a20s volume is on the low side. Is because I need to update them or what?

The ONLY problem I had when I first wore my A20’s were they are a little too tight and it gave me a slight headache but that could have also been partly because I had been up for over 24 hours. But I’ve been stretching them out to wear them in over some books gonna see how they feel. I want them loose like the A10s they don’t need to clamp so much because I’m not head banging haha I’m playing some games

Actually, no...you need to use the headphone that's specific to each console.
Maybe you could do best sub $150 wireless headsets, ie astro a20, corsair hs70, whatever turtle beach. And artics 7. And have 2 winners. Best for money (performance per $) and best overall. That would be nice. Btw. Nice video

YourTechReport I currently have the turtle beach Stealth 400 and while playing fortnite seems like I can't hear the footsteps clearly, after another cheap alternative that are a little better

At $150 it should have surround sound. On PS4 you might as well get the platinum headset and for an extra $50 on the xbox one you can get the A50's and have their flagship headset. This price point seems kinda stupid to me. You can't even feed it an analog signal either which you could have added on surround sound with like a turtlebeach DSS2 forcing you into stereo only.

First, I'm assuming you've set the headphones up using the optical out on your Xbox One going into the optical input on the base unit; you should also have the USB out of your Xbox One going into the USB input on the base unit...and lastly, USB out from the base unit, into the headphone to charge...
Now, a couple of questions: First, can you hear chat audio, but NOT game audio, or just no audio at all? Also, can your friends hear you when you talk? if you can hear chat, but not game audio, it could be the mixer. I was so confused why would you leave oh one of the biggest points that the Astro a 50 is surroundsound and a 20s are not like obviously there’s a reason for the price gap don’t mislead your audience?

Great point....that is one of the differences that I should have mentioned; but there are other reasons for the price difference (including the quality of build and the charging base) that play a pretty big part:)
There are two very important things I need to know. One is what and how does the mic sound and the other is does the lack of Dolby headphone on the A20 make up with Dolby Atmos app?

Great question! Unlike the A10 (where each of the different headsets will work on any platform), the A20 for Xbox One will only work with the Xbox One, and the PS4 version only works with the PS4; this is because the Xbox One uses proprietary technology for wireless voice chat...

Stereo sound does give you direction. I have an old set of xo threes and play games such as rainbow six, pubg, and battlefield with them and can hear exactly where people are coming from.

I just got the a10 cuz my other headset broke. And i just dont like them. Im going to get the hyperx cloud alphas when i have the money.
The wire is bad on the a10 I have the A10s and my 3.5mm jack broke
