  • Play this video to your pet parrot, especially to Senegal parrots (Poicephalus senegalus). The sights and sounds of the West African tropical forests and savannah may help it feel better if left alone for hours in the house.
Please let me know in the comments below how your parrot reacted to this video. In episode 2 I will add sounds of senegals recorded at a close distance. What works best as and enrichment for your parrot?
I use this video for my Senegals together with other videos of African sounds. Here is the playlist I'm using: • Parrot TV Africa
I have designed the audio track by mixing a few recordings from a wet gallery forest, a dry coastal forest and the Gambian savannah, all frequented by Senegal parrots. Plus some recordings of flocks of wild sennies at a farm near a forst reserve.
All video and audio recorded in The Gambia by Florin Feneru and Monica Crugel.
Many thanks to our birdwatching and natural history guide to The Gambia, Musa Manneh:

  • @ramiyo3606

My senegal listens the sound carefully and reply back!!

  • @jeancater1388

I love these sounds and my Senegal parrot does too!❤

Dora was fascinated by the sounds but not fussed about watching. Luckily she gets a lot of time outside and is used to being in bushes with a wild garden to look at and (French) birdsong around her.

I love the sounds of birds. When govt save their habitat, birds , animals flourish!

I wrote to you before. Thank you for other videos and this is really interesting to my Senegal parrot. He really hears the birds sounds and responds to them. With out intruding, I suggest sounds or breeding and especially female Senegal parrots. Just a note, I am a community college English teacher and currently have a student from Senegal. We talk about these birds, but two days ago, we had an earthquake. He was very surprised, and confused. We told him this was an earthquake, and he said this was the first time he had ever felt this. Earthquakes are no fun, but first time for everything. Luckily it was nothing. Would love to see the mating ritual of Senegal parrots. Mine everyday is trying to get me to enter his blanket nest he has made. Obviously I can't, but feel so bad he bonds tome as a mate. Wish I could bring him back to Africa and let him mate, but we know that is not possible. Sad.

Our Senegal is sitting on my shoulder. Was chirping and content. Got upset at me when the ads came on, thought that I turned it off. Now I hear him snoring on my shoulder. 🥰 He must feel relaxed and at home.

The sound of parrots and other birds flying free in the natural world is so sweet and also calming effect to the people watching this video. I hope conservationists do research and try to keep their habitat out of human destruction. So we can see and hear these birds and our next generations also.

My Senegal is chirping along. She clearly recognizes the sounds of her species. Now, if I could only get her to play fetch.

My Senegal, Henry, seems to like these sounds. There are 2 places in the video where a certain bird sets up an alarm, and Henry instantly alerts. He seems to recognize it, but, I don't think that's likely.
