There is a moment in every Karin Slaughter book that I've had to put down for a moment and wasn't sure I could even finish. And that I saying a lot because I am NOT squeamish. She just has a way of describing violence like no other.
I completely agree with you about the pacing! The past scene was so intense and gripping. It completely amazed me. The present I found lacking. I was honestly disappointed, I kept waiting for the twist or something to actually happen that amazed me again. It just didn’t get there, I honestly came to the end and was like “that’s it?” I did like the dynamic between the sisters and how the past still effected them greatly. I did enjoy the marriage struggle and how that was resolved. I also loved her husband so much, also waiting for a man like that 😊
OK, since you're pretty much a Karin Slaughter pro now, which one of her books would you recommend starting with? I'm really intrigued by what you say about her writing in your reviews, but I can't decide which one to go for.
The Kept Woman is apparently part of a bigger series!! (Will Trent series I believe. Also people who’ve loved her books said that TKW was the worst book to start in the series lol) but after I finished pretty girls I bought ALL of the books in her other series, Grant County series (6 books). Also I LOOOOOVE THE GOOD DAUGHTER SO SO SO MUCH. But I actually thought Pretty Gurls was waaaay more graphic haha
Oooh, okay - good to know! Pretty Girls was definitely had more graphic scenes. There was just "that one scene" in The Good Daughter that I thought was really really graphic if that makes sense.
I finished listening go Pretty Girls earlier this month and I absolutely loved it! Definitely looking forward to more of her stuff. Thanks so much for the recommendation because I almost overlooked this author!
If you wanna read something to Karin Slaughter thats a super quick, fast paced read I've been reading Lisa Gardner lately. The writing is definitely not as good, they almost read like an episode of Criminal Minds but its nice horror/thriller brain candy. Find Her from the DD Warren series was my fave so far for the characters
I LOVE the old intro music. Karin Slaughter is my favorite thriller author of the past few years. I love her. The Good Daughter broke my heart - especially the graphic twist you find out 3/4 of the way through the book. It shattered me. Her first author in the series with Jeffrey Tolliver and Sara, I can’t remember what the title is, is forever one of my favorites she’s ever written. It’s so disturbing and horrifying. That whole series is actually great. As is the Will Trent series. Her next book comes out in July and I’m super excited about it! So glad you’ve started reading her works :)
I am about half way through The Good Daughter now but have put it down for a few days. Not as gripping anymore as you stated. Still I want to see what happens just not as obsessed!!
The Kept Woman is technically the 8th book in the Will Trent series. They read as standalones, but there is overarching things between it and her first series, Grant County.
Hi, I'm not sure if you have read any Blake Crouch 's books yet. I came across a trilogy by him that I had not heard of and Wow!! I spent my whole day off reading the entire trilogy because I could not put it down!! They are in order: Desert Places, Locked Doors, and Break You. They are very graphic and violent but the story is compelling.
This cant just be a karin slaughter book review channel 😂 I'm gonna have to check out one of her books soon. Have you seen the HBO trailer for sharp objects ?
I love Karin Slaughter but i can't read her in my mother language because her books are so graphic. I am not normaly squeamish but i don't turst myself with her books so i always read her in english 🙈 And i think you are right with the villan and pacing but i loved this book for that too. And for the first time in my reading life when i read the dual perspective i was blown away by the way she made me understand how different two people can see the world around them. I don't think i've read a more well done dual perspective book in my life.
I'm so glad you did this review! I'm reading it right now and at first I was really into this book but now I'm close to halfway through and it feels super slow and I'm struggling with it. I want to try and finish it though 🙂
Hello! To those who wanna listen to the book for free, please check out LIFErary Audiobook Complete Playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLIUHTKO62rIyawLL_fJY52yzwXKibLH-c Thank you.
I have it on my kindle, started reading it and when i reach the point where shit hits the fan, i changed and started reading M Train by Patti Smith. Another day!
Fabi Prz I didn't either. It went a little overboard on the drama, to the point that it's exhausting. That was the first book I've read by her. So now I'm skeptical of Pretty Girls.
Ahhh, let me see how to say this my english isnt the best. Like when you made a mistake and you repeated the sentence, it left like i was watching a movie and they intentionally did this , i like it, it was trippy!
Thanks for the review! Idk if its a mistake or purposeful but the editing is...different? I thought there was something wrong with my computer for a second lol. Some points were being repeated.
Hey I recommend you to check out Ekona Del Rey Monroe stories, Trust me his stories is very brutal, & murderous, Especially his disastrous love affair stories, Lol I'm trying put you on, His instagram is @ekonaarts ❤️❤️❤️
I loved this book! It ripped my heart out and spit the pieces on the ground. It was truly heartbreaking... especially the third half down when we just "know". Great read.
This book came across in one of my favourite bookshops, and, even if I don't really like thrillers, still, my inner voice told me to get it. And when I was through the first part, I got so stunned, I couldn't explain. Still in the process of reading. Thanks for not giving spoilers :)
Apologies if the editing here is a bit off. Not sure if it’s an error in iMovie or me simply accidentally not deleting certain sentences 🙃

"i'm trying to find this type of guy in real life" lmao me whenever I have a book crush :P

The beginning is gripping but when you find out more later on it’s like wow.

Thank you so much for giving such an excellent review while not spoiling a darn thing!

OMG THE OLD INTRO I'M CRYING OF HAPPINESS 😭😭
same!
Never enough of thrillers especially psychological ones, I'm practically obssesed with that genre :)
You're just like me this is the third book I read in a row starting with pretty girls and I've been hooked ever since.
The momentum thing is really true. Initially I could not put it down, but in between I stopped and resumed after a while.

Just getting into Karin and I love her writing
Karin Slaughter - man or woman, any genre - including literary fiction - is one of the greatest living authors.
I hope you will do a video on the best ending twist for thrillers, mystery.
Of Course I love thrillers and horror novels , that's the reason I'm here every wednesday! Great channel !
Which of the three Karin Slaughter books that you’ve read would you recommend to someone who’s new to her books?
hmmm I would say Pretty Girls :)
Pretty girls was the one I started with great book
I am about half way through The Good Daughter now but have put it down for a few days. Not as gripping anymore as you stated. Still I want to see what happens just not as obsessed!!
You've convinced me to pick up my first book by Karin Slaughter over summer, and I think this will be the one :)
Which would u prefer? The Good Daughter or Pretty Girls
Pieces of her by Karin Slaughter is becoming a TV show!
The Kept Woman is technically the 8th book in the Will Trent series. They read as standalones, but there is overarching things between it and her first series, Grant County.
I've only read as far as that scene with Ben out by the car but OMIGOD.......where are the real life Bens
I'm so glad the old intro is back, lmao!!

The good daughter got me back into thriller/mysteries! Im starting pretty girls atm
Aww the previous intro music. I missed it so much.

I need to read this so bad!!!
Great review! I'm hoping this book will get me out of my book slump. Lately I just want to be outside or watching TV 🙁

Thank you.
I have it on my kindle, started reading it and when i reach the point where shit hits the fan, i changed and started reading M Train by Patti Smith. Another day!
I know the exact scene your talking about...I felt the same way very graphic and extremely sad i had to put it down as well..for a bit
I can’t wait to check this one out !
The beginning of that book was so intense but I gave up after 100 something pages because it got so slow
I feel the exact same way about this book.
So Idk if this was just me. I really liked Pretty Girls. So I picked up The Good Daughter... I didn’t like it. Anyone else?
Fabi Prz I didn’t like it either! Skimmed the end, but I loved Triptych by her
Ive read Pretty Girls, Good Daughter and Cop Town by her. Pretty Girls was DEFINITELY my favourite but I did like the other two just not as much?
I was the same way. I loved Pretty Girls but this one wasn’t for me. I think it was the topic that made it difficult for me. I DNF this book.
Fabi Prz I didn't either. It went a little overboard on the drama, to the point that it's exhausting. That was the first book I've read by her. So now I'm skeptical of Pretty Girls.
I did not like pretty girls... at all
The editing was very interesting today!!
Jojo Jojo wait, is something weird about it? I don’t think I did anything different 😅 haha
Ahhh, let me see how to say this my english isnt the best. Like when you made a mistake and you repeated the sentence, it left like i was watching a movie and they intentionally did this , i like it, it was trippy!
ChapterStackss there was a lot of repeating whole sentences, but it was edited that way not you saying it irl, if that makes sense
Jojo Jojo That's how all her videos are edited. It's iconic she is a queen.
Action and Echo I am a fan since the start, this isn't how it is but it's not something bad, like i said it was very interesting!
I've only read the 1st chapter so far
.... But.. Fuck me it's great
BEN is Mr Dreamy~~~~~~
Thanks for the review! Idk if its a mistake or purposeful but the editing is...different? I thought there was something wrong with my computer for a second lol. Some points were being repeated.
It's a mistake lol
Great video as always ♡♡
