Florida loses 10% of its teachers a year, pay is extremely low, so recruiting from other states isn't going to solve the problem.

In over 30 years I have taught at a dozen schools and consulted at around a hundred across 6 states. The MAIN problem is NOT the pay! It is the psychological, emotional and physical abuse that teachers are being subjected to on a DAILY basis.
For you non-teachers, imagine being bullied, belittled, abused and demeaned by children, adolescents and even adults (who hold your livelihood in their hands) and at the same time attacked for not "meeting the needs" of your abusers.

I think you are spot on- even one disrespectful and/or abusive child or parent can make a teachers life miserable on top of all the other cognitively demanding work a teacher is expected to do for low pay and little autonomy every day.

Nobody with any sense wants to teach in FL under DeSantis's education politics !

De Santis not the problem. It's discipline. Schools are totally of of control. Woke Principals refusing to discipline unruly students punish the teachers instead.

Whole country having a teacher shortage. Law enforcement nursing doctor shortage military. It because the way people behave now of days. No one wants to deal with it. Not De Santis s responbility to raise other people's kids right. Parents need to do their jobs and discipline unruly undisciplined children

Too many tasks, unreslistic expectstions, no support,no respect, student behaviors, crappy pay.

It's the students and lack of discipline for bad behavior. Literally the first response there, but news was careful not to tell the truth.

WOW! It is nice for me to see other FL counties going through this too. Are you still investigating this? I have personal stories to share as a teacher from PA that moved here 3 years ago. It has been awful (not my job .. the DOE). I have e-mails from the DOE and everything on why they cannot certify me fully. To keep my teaching job, the state also tells me I need to take reading and ELL classes each year even though I took them in college.
I also have 2 other co-workers going through the same experience. We are in Collier County - all certified with "reciprocity" from other states (PA, IN, MI) but MANY limitations and MUCH added work. Let me know if we can add to your story in any way. I would love for this topic to blow up and get resolved.

How can i contribute as i tried to get certified in florida and it does allow us to get different questions asked and other terms like online subs are only paid 15 min versus a no hour no show … there is a shortage and you are paying less in person to be a sub online and also online one should speak of conditions

Don't teach in Florida. Too many other decent states to teach in. Blue states are not expensive in every area and they have high pay, good benefits and unions. Don't waste your time in Florida. I bet they denied that Illinois teacher because he is from a blue state.
