I realize there are way fewer people interested in the mechanics of how to actually sail a boat, but these examples are awesome and are way more helpful than other videos, where they skim over details without explaining them! Cheers!
I dont understand why barely anyone ever made sailing videos like this with animations that lets us see everything easily. Great job at this very good presentation! I learned a lot!
@@searchingforcoconuts2248 Thank you for your great videos. I dont know what youve planned forvthe future. But I certainly would be very interested in a video focussing on the boom rigging with the halyard, the reef lines etc etc. I need to figure out how mine is supposed to work.
@@obiwanfisher537 hi again, sorry for the late reply... it's a bit difficult to do tutorials like that as each vessel/brand/captain has their own set-up.... My advice would be to join as many sailing groups as possible, maybe even one specific to your type of boat, and bombard them with questions... sure, most of them think they know everything but these groups can provide great knowledge
@@searchingforcoconuts2248 no problem. I did my own research and it turns iut I have a very old furling boom system. I also learned that its not very good for reefing and that I should modify the boom for slab reefing.
Damn, this is good. I knew the mechanics of the old gold age of sail ships, but this explains clearly and with great visuals the purpose of everything in the modern ship rigging.
Easily the best simply explained rigging/sailing instruction I have seen. I did RYA Day Skipper last year and this was a fantastic review. Good work ! Thanks.
I have n9ot yet sailed but I am trying to familiarise myself with where everything is and how it works so that when I do go sailing, I only need to learn how to sail, not where everything goes. I've watched this (and some of your other videos) several times now and today I set up all the sheets and line just to go through the process. It's a great way of beginning to learn what I need to know when I go sailing, so I'll be setting the lines up and taking them down a few times to get used to the motions. These videos are the best, I've learned so much already, I wish I could thumbs up for you 50 times. Thanks for helping a complete newbie get prepared.
Great videos. The only thing I'd add for anyone watching is that when furling away the jib it's a good idea to keep a little tension on the jib sheet (port or starboard depending on tack) to ensure the jib wraps away neatly. The easiest way to do this is a single wrap around a winch (maybe more if very windy) of the jib sheet and holding it lightly in your hand feeding out the jib sheet as you (or mate) pulls on the furling line.
These are the best basic technical sailing video's I have ever seen. So useful. I guess they could be at great use for RYA courses. I appreciate the effort and hope you will keep posting them for free.
Thanks. A good refresher. Just bought a keeler after years of dinghy and Hobie sailing. Did spend a fair bit of my youth crewing on racing keelers out of Durban, a place I am sure you are familiar with!
These are great videos for the beginner and give them a good insight into hell their cell boatworks and what the different items on their cell cold is cold and what they actually do in the operation of sailing these videos I would say for the Beginner should be a must I found these interesting even though I am a man of many years experience there is always something new you can learn from watching such videos a great job in making his videos and I'm quite sure your videos is informed thousands of people and giving them the ability to understand and your operation they're both and the skills they need to attain to be safe on water

I learned to sail in 5 minutes. Regardless of all the terminology, remember newbies...FIND the wind. The wind may change on you. It may change direction at any time and can catch you off-guard. Check the wind reports, identify any land/terrain that will affect your wind patterns as you sail by. Plan your course. Be safe and have fun! Happy to answer any questions from my experience. A picture is worth a thousand words. So your animated tutorial was very good.
