no problem at all ... ... the comments indicate i'm paying a bit more than i should however ... found this place on airbnb ... then struck up a deal after staying a few days
Westlands is expensive because of the multinationals that are setting their regional and African headquarters in that location. I can see even your apartment is a stone throw away from Microsoft offices. So very soon, the average rent prices in Westlands may reach that level of San Francisco as the likes of Google, Meta etc. come in to Westlands.
Check out Serene Court M, Durham Road. Kileleshwa. Much nicer at 500 dollars. Free water, no security or maintenance fee. Its quiet, beautiful, study plus master en suite and guest bathroom. It is walking distance from Lavington, Kilimani, Yaya, City Centre, and Westlands. The houses are bigger too.
Kilimani/Kileleshwa are not on the same scale as Westlands. They are different brands. Real estate value starts with location. If you want to live in Westlands, then you must pay the rental charges for Westlands. Ala!
Westlands is the place to be if you can spend $1000+ a month and like to go out and hit the malls. Being that close to Waiyaki is probably noisy IMO but makes for quick access. Weslands is always my recommendation.
That's a reasonable rental amount for a furnished apartment in Westlands. Real estate value starts with location. Westlands proximity to town might have been of great value to the tenant, and there comparison with Kileleshwa might be misplaced. Kilimani is falling on account of growing insecurity and being a hide out for "wash-washers", drug pushers and other white collar criminal elements. It is also noisier for the same reason.
Our Africa is now becoming more expensive than the west all due to too many foreigners moving to Africa. This is making local people's lives very hard. High demand for housing and so on
@@robinkenya The comments are misplaced because most of them are referring to other locations. There is a reason why Westlands is Westlands and Kilimani is Kilimani.
Ah Rob I think you need an agent who know their stuff. You are being overcharged for such a space for that space in Westlands at that price you can even get a four bedroom apartment or alternatively a bigger space if you move to Kileleshwa or Kilimani. Damn is it because of the furnishing?
Westlands on the one hand and South B or South C on the other are very different classes of locations. Incomparable. If you want to enjoy the benefits of staying in Westlands, don't expect to pay the rents of South B/C.
In Kileleshwa(just a stone throw away), you'd have gotten a much bigger and better 3 to 4 bedroom flat for less that price. Am sure that apartment is actually between 150 to 400 dollars a month. . They're clearly charging you the "mzungu tax". Get yourself a Kenyan friend to look for the house, you'll be shocked to hear what the prices are. . Yeah housing in westlands is expensive but you're clearly getting the "mzungu price".

Kileleshwa is not Westlands. Each location represents a part of the value proposition. He who wants to live in Westlands must pay the rent for Westlands. Kileleshwa is a different set of value proposition.
Could you elaborate the monkey business to exchange money monthly, and 'real ID' (maybe you meant original?) situation it would be helpful for others and me to understand what that means. edit: Is that stained glass in your apartment? 😳. niiiice.
Real estate value begins with location. Kilimani and Westlands represent very different value proposition. Kilimani has become a hide out for drug pushers, and white collar criminals. It is also full of noisy yuppies who strive to prove that they have made it. Even security is declining. It is not just a matter of spaciousness of an apartment that determines the rent to be charged. Location is the leading factor.
$1 ,100 !!! still too expensive though..check out killeleshwa ,kilimani its actually more quite and better looking for 600-$800 range two bedroom apartment
@@robinkenya Yeah Rob, you are paying waayy too much for a space that small, whats happening is you're paying for property value in that location, not the actual quality of the space.. you can get a 2 bed with more space, natural light etc in locations like Lavington, Kileleshwa & Kilimani. Consider looking around at more options if thats an option for you :) cheers mate
Wow this was REALLY helpful. I'm a cloud guy as well, so reliable Internet is THE most important thing to me.

Rob likes Westlands because of the night life and picking girls for the night. In his short stay, he said he has already dated 10 women? 😲

I don't have any suggestions, but I hope you use your skills to help your country Kenya on it's path onward and upward.
Welcome to Nairobi. You are getting ripped-off on the apartment though. Much better options and location for that or lower.
