My vote is for Aha! Pentatonix original video vs. Imogen Heap (I haven't found a video for Imogen Heap's version, but there are audio videos all over the place).

Another comparison suggestion - their cover of Ariana Grande’s Problem.

Loved this comparison! :) "Radioactive" was where I first discovered Lindsey and became a fan of hers as well after binge-watching her videos. There was a very "Mad Max" feel to the PTX interpretation, and the setting (a derelict area near the Salton Sea) was absolutely perfect for that feel. Watch the "Behind the Scenes" video too... it was great. In addition to the as-always outstanding vocals, we got some vintage Avi super-frowns and proof that even covered with dirt and grease, Kirstie is gorgeous.

I couldn't wait to see your take on the original video! ;-D I'm always happy to see Lou Diamond Phillips, and I liked the quirky video from the first time I saw it. Then I saw the cover and thought, "Wow--PTX is really taking the song SERIOUSLY!" I'm always going to be partial to Pentatonix, but I like both versions and both videos. There's a poignancy to the latter one, though. The sheer beauty of the vocals plus the strings makes a sharp contrast to the desolation of the location and the hopelessness of the lyrics. Jarod, you're a natural for this comparison format! Thank you for your insightful on-the-spot observations.

As a huge Imagine Dragons fan, I've always found the music video for this song weird. However, the song is about an awakening and the lead singer wanted to put a weird spin to the video. He even said (Quotes because I'm lame) "A lot of people probably see a post-apocalyptic world when they hear 'Radioactive,' understandably, but we wanted to deliver something that was maybe a little different from that ... a lot different from that." Pentatonix just made their video the way most people would picture the song. I'll stop 😂 Love the reaction, well all of your reactions really.

Haha, thank you for that. I like the song, video aside. Lol. But when you make a video like that, it certainly makes it memorable.

Yes! (Fist pump in the air!) Another Lindsey Sterling convert! She is brilliant! I just looked through my list of favorites to try and find one to recommend for you to look at and reactive and I couldn’t choose a favorite! But I am going to suggest her video called “The Arena”. I’m suggesting this one for a couple of reasons. First of all she is brilliant in it, that goes without being said but I said it anyway 😉 Second of all the young man she is dancing with is Derek Hough, formerly of Dancing With The Stars and Lindsey‘s partner on DWTS. (You should do reactions to some of those videos also.) Lindsey and Derek teamed up to do a couple of different videos together but “The Arena” is my favorite. Enjoy! 😀

Really enjoyed this comparison reaction. PTX nailed it. SO cool. And how about Scott with that rough, gritty lead vocal!! You might like to react to another of their foreign language covers. Can they be incredible in say....Korean? Yes! They did a medley of songs from the group Perfume. Kirsten & Mitch especially shine. PTX just seems more and more amazing with every performance you watch.

    • @bill.godwin-austen
      @bill.godwin-austen 6 лет назад +4

Perfume is a Japanese girl group, and parts of it were sung in Japanese (Kirstin really rocks that part)... the one they did in Korean was "Gagnam Style"

Idea for a double (or even triple) reaction - Coldest Winter.
It's a cover of a Kanye West song, but Kanye's version is very heavily based on "Memories Fade" by Tears For Fears. Pentatonix covered Kanye's "Coldest Winter" for their 2016 Christmas album (I guess for the "winter" theme, because it is in no way a Christmas song). Kanye's was written after the death of his mother and it is said that he's referencing his relationship with her in his lyrics.
Both PTX and Kanye have videos for "Coldest Winter", but I don't think "Memories Fade" does (I haven't found one, just numerous audio vids).

lmao!!! omg...your reaction to the Imagine Dragons video was the same as mine...1st time I've seen and I was like...wth?! Of course I'd only seen PTX version and so I wasn't expecting ID's take on that song but regardless of whether I had seen any video, the song does not match their video anywhere close to PTX. Was so excited to come home and see you had done this one, THANK YOU!

This song is special to me because it was my gateway to PTX. I loved Radioactive when it first came out so much that I'd watch the video on RUclips almost every day (and yeah, it's quirky but I completely dig it). One time I typed "Radioactive" into the search bar and one of the first results was the PTX version. I don't usually go for covers but for some reason that day I checked it out. I was blown away, and went to their channel to watch more. Hours later I finally pushed away from the screen with a new favorite group and a whole new outlook on music in general.

Totally agree with you Jerod. It’s a great song. I find the Imagine Dragons video more distracting than anything. I love the PTX/Stirling arrangement, the intensity of their video (yeah for Avi), the monochrome theme except for Lindsey’s red scarf that look like blood dripping... and Scott’s raspiness is perfect. Looooove it. Probably their most dramatic video along with Say Something. So much talent. **sigh**

That's what I like about how you do these reactions: initially you listen to the original song, and then what the Pentatonix did. I like this incredibly, because I don't get my hands to the originals - I postpone everything or just don't think about it!
To see such an approach is a pleasure)
Tell me please, do you plan to react in the future to Superfruit video? I'm not talking about music videos, I'm talking about the rest)
It's funny, sometimes it's strange, but it's the best way to show the relationship between Scott and Mitch, reveals some of their jokes that may be incomprehensible, and indeed there are quite interesting moments)
Although, however, you already know about this XD

Oh my... that Care Bear really put the smackdown on their candy "beep"...! I'd never seen that before but I had like the song when I heard it and now I don't think I like it by Imagine Dragon anymore because this is really disturbing for me. I thought the Care Bear was going to shoot a heart shaped beam from its tummy heart sign at everybody and make them all love each other. I would definitely enjoy a comparison reaction for "Aha" by Imogen Heap compared to pentatonix's cover of Aha. But I'd like to hear it live... yet the video is really interesting and fun. It's just that in the beginning of the Aha! journey Mitch sings it really sweetly.. and it's that way in their Official Video... But the video and his vocals in the video, are GREAT! The song has evolved over the years to show his angst. The song's about "save the Earth" holier than thou types that are hypocritical behind closed doors when no one can see them.. He has a pet peeve about it and it really upsets him. The way he sang it in Singapore embodied those feelings. But the videos really cool 2! you absolutely have got to see the video. Yeah that's my song choice! Have a good weekend... oh wait. it's over. Yeah okay bye!

That was awesome. I had never actually watched the official Imagine Dragon's video for Radioactive but did know the song. Like you, their video caught me off guard and is not what I was expecting. Pentatonix along with Lindsay Sterling did an amazing job with this cover. Go figure that an Accopella group with a cello and violin would have a harder video than the original lol. PTX's video did fit the song better. Thanks for this reaction, this was a pretty cool comparison. :)

Jerod, I was caught off guard as well with the Imagine Dragons video. I am familiar with the son, but, too, had never watched the original video. I did not care for the original -- thought it was kind of off the wall and didn't really apply to the words of the song -- but, of course, I has seen the PTX one, so I was totally expecting something closer to the lyrics. Of course, I like the PTX version MUCH better. Yeah, so I am biased, but it was a better quality video and did apply to the lyrics much better! Another great one, Jerod!! Of course, nothing beats being at their (PTX) concert earlier tonight -- LOL!!

The Orginal is about Dan the Singer, who lost a friend to suicide because they grew up in the mormon community, his friend was Gay, the religous guilt from the community leaded to his death, the song is about breaking out of that system.

I think they were talking about how people take the sweetest most innocent and loving things in their lives and repay that love with Terror, betrayal of confidence, violence and greed... like they do with dog fighting.? If Dogs are man's best friend, it makes what they do to these animals with dog fighting even more evil than it already is.

What I saw in the original video was more like innocent childhood toys being taken over by violent video games that kids play instead of playing with stuffed toys? I don't know. I was really confused too :D. I definitely prefer the PTX video and their version too. The instrumental line on that was next level and it added so much to the song.

And whether it was or not, in my mind, Pentatonix/Stirling's cover was inspired by the fact that Radioactive was tied to the TV Series/MMO Game "Defiance" as its Unofficial, Official Theme.

I found the Imagine Dragons video tp be extremely unsettling. I am probably overly sentimental, but I remember the stuffed animals that both my sister and I had as children, and the idea of them being destroyed (by anyone, for any reason) upsets me. The bit at the end was a bit of karmic retribution, but it still didn't offset the destruction of the toys that weren't simply dropped into the pit.
That aside, I preferred the cover because it both had a more literal (and plausible) theme, and because PTX and Lindsey absolutely hit it out of the park. (Yes, I went through several different metaphorical cliches in my mind, trying to avoid using "kill", "slay", or anything else similar after my almost unhinged rant above.) The interplay between Lindsey and Kevin's strings was wonderful, and the vocal performances (especially from Scott and Mitch) were flawless.

Radioactive is pretty much Canon for Pentatonix. I was really surprised that you hadn't seen it yet. I hadn't realized Imagine Dragons video was as different as it was from the PTX version as it pertains to interpretation of the lyrics. I think Pentatonix I did what I thought was logical and they did it well. If I hadn't have seen Imagine Dragons video here I would have never dreamed that their video would have been about stuffed animals destroying each other while me and cheered and smoked and placed bets. I always I thought it was a song about an apocalyptic world. Like you said it's an artistic choice and I respect that. But for me, Pentatonix and Lindsey Stirling really nailed it! and Mitch looks really good in that leather. LOL!

It's not really true to the lyrics, the Songs isn't about a post apocalyps, "Radioactive, to me, it's very masculine, powerful-sounding song, and the lyrics behind it, there's a lot of personal story behind it, but generally speaking, it's a song about having an awakening; kind of waking up one day and deciding to do something new, and see life in a fresh way,'' The personal meaning is about Dan the singer, who grew up as a mormon and breaks out of the guilt and abuse, he had to deal with in his religion and community after his friend killed himself because he was gay.

Sorry but this time i write italian because it's too hard for my english. In my opinion both the versions are awesome. Sorry for the piece in italian.

The stuffed animals are a representation of real animals or people who would have actually been in the pit.

well that's disturbing. i prefer Pentatonix version. My grandson loves that song but the original isn't something i'd let him watch. And i'm a Lindsey Sterling fan

I thought the fake plush animals ruined the song..they could have gone with home robots or even real people, but the stuffed animals was;nt for me. my pick for best choice was PTX!

That was a VERY BIZARRE video by Imagine Dragons, and they got Lou Diamond Phillips to act in it? Much prefer PTX video and their cover.

I felt the same way, comparatively - here's what Imagine Dragons said about the original www.mtv.com/news/1698938/imagine-dragons-radioactive-video-set/

Great reaction and I love idea of comparing videos. I would love to see more of your reactions to Lindsey Stirling's videos. She has four albums of original music (many videos) as well as many more collaborations like this one with Alexander Jean who are a married couple. Mark Ballas was Lindsey's pro dance partner on Dancing With The Stars last year. "Stampede" ruclips.net/video/-9rdDeWzvsU/видео.html and

Imagine Dragons version was pretty bad. PTX and Lindsey got it right. They interpreted this song perfectly. Go check out Lindsey’s new song Stampede......JD

I think that Scott's voice doesn't fit this song, but I love the parts Mitch or Kirstie solos
