Hi mike you are a great guy. you tell the truth and honesty and being realistic of vw parts and body work. You've have many years of experience. People should listen to that. Great video mike keep up the brilliant work. UK
Man your experience on the everyday volkswagen subjects is what i struggle a lot with the past years i am into the volkswagen. Nothing beats years of experience - especially on the longevity of parts.
You are the only Vw resource I have. Therefore, I really appreciate your videos. The closest remaining repair shop is 100 miles away. My engine had a Chinese fuel pump and immediately failed. So I have to really research stuff before I purchase. So please continue to do what you do. If you see a similar comment floating around it's because something happened on first attempt.
yea some of those were good some were not. Brosol is a bit better. I get what the store has. Sometimes all they have is china stuff and never had one bad out of the box. the alternator ones are better than the generator ones for china stuff.
Thanks for this great overview! You just got a new subscriber 😄 It'll be a great help for me with rebuilding my 71 Super! Cheers from the old continent!
Interesting video Mike. Over here in New Zealand our dollar has tanked so purchasing ex US is rather pricey at the moment. And don't forget in many parts of the US, gas is soooo cheap.
Mike, I’ve been watching your videos for sometime. I sure enjoy them. You do a good job explaining older blocks la blocks and the compatibility of parts. Thank you for all your knowledgeable advice. God bless Trump. God bless Israel.
I try and use them over the china ones. but some of the China ones are ok too. Brosol is probably a bit better. Brazilian. They all have the issue of leaking into the crankcase when they go bad though. So make sure to check the oil regularly for increasing and gas smell. other option if yours has the screws WW sells kits to rebuild them so dont throw the one with removable top away.
@@Mikefngarage I rebuilt my Pierburg pump with a WW kit and only got 500 miles out of it before it left me on the side of the road. Allegedly they weren't supplying Ethanol resistant gaskets in the kit and the diaphragm would break down. There's a guy on the Samba that rebuilds them with the Ethanol resist kits from Eefbe in Germany.
Some Chinesium parts are decent. Some of the best exhausts and shifters are made by Vintage Speed in Taiwan. You’ve had good luck with some AA parts. I bought a set of wide five steel wheels from there and they are solid and the powder coating was great. The best cases are from Brazil; Autolinea for aluminum and Motorav for magnesium. Brazil and Mexico parts as well as European tend to be decent as well.
Yup....I and if we get hit with Tariffs they may start makeing stuff local or in other countries not effected. I have not heard anything about brazil getting hit. Lots of crying going on. Lets stay positive.
Hi Mike, As usual, this is a great, explained video. Be still who you are politically about what affects you👍🏻🙏🏻. More people should comment on themselves about what affects them and stay for it. Those who don't like that are those who are not affected by the new rules from the Government. I see comments from every country in Europe about how the US government try to rule the world, but that will never happen Europa stays united by any threats from wherever they come from. Mike your running chromoly push rods then setting valves at 0 lash, correct? What do u think of CB Super Duty aluminum push rods? I run chromoly now, but have always delt with running hot (1915). Do u think switching to aluminum push rods with 006 lash would run cooler?
no probably not....the thing that is nice about the chromoly ones at 0 is they will tell you when it is hot. starts missing.....But you have another issue. Full Flow? dog house? freeway RPM too high. Also the super cool tin underneath on that engine makes a difference. Compression ratio too high? or timing too far advanced. Check timing mark by putting a bolt in the spark plug rotate by hand back and forth to determine it is centered. Back and forth till the bolt hits the piston (BY HAND)
Who gives a f*ck about your politics lol -- you're Californian 🙂 You're A+ # 1 in my opinion, Mike! You are a VW restoring monster. What is it? In the last 5 years, 5, or 6 cars (one rusted in half bug, another completely destroyed cherry picker, couple buses, Ghia bodywork, another couple beetles & maybe some other stuff) While working, fixing daily drivers, thru covid, & now with economic slowdown you're still out there everyday getting with it. You're a f*ckin legend. Let's get this channel making you some money for your weary bones.
Yeah but Trump told us we would not have to pay for the tarriff's! I mean literally said "It won't cost the consumer anything." OK enough of my rant, stick to the VW's!
Yes some things in our VW world that dont have enough resources in other places may have price increases for a bit but I am very positive we will find other resources. just like the engine bearings. Mahle stepped up and started making more of them.
@@dpose6525 Even domestically produced goods can become more expensive if their supply chain includes foreign components now taxed at the border. One of the most direct results of tariffs is higher consumer prices.
It’s a cost well worth paying considering all the other positive actions they’re taking. I’m fine with it to finally get the woke culture out of our lives.
@@ocavant is the woke in the room with us now? @dpose6525 betcha don't remember what American steel manufacturers did when the 2018-19 tariffs were in place on Jynese steel. They RAISED their prices to be JUST below that of the Chinese product. Why sell for a LOT less than your competitors when you can sell for a LITTLE less? Yep- good old American capitalists fucked the American consumer. That's why water heaters, stoves, fridges- EVERYTHING made from steel got SUPER expensive for 18 months. Same time the stock market flatlined.
I just wish we had a decent trade deal with the USA, would love to be able to buy stuff from the US, but draconian Import duties coupled with our VAT, really hurt us here in the UK.

Hey Mike ! I like product review videos . A stock crank is a 1054 low sulphur steel just like early sbc and forged ford , chrysler .

I would love to hear what your opinion is on how to jet a Weber progressive on a 2.0.
Best day ever with my eggs was day itmet the trash can. Found some scat dual carb kit and just worked perfect.
Very informative Mike!

Truth even when it is not what people want to hear. Putting your head in the sand and living in denial never leads to anything.
