    Actually I found out the ski tradition in Altai is more like 8000 years old!!! Thank you my awesome friend for sharing these moments of discovery with me, and for making such a great film. (As usual). Many more adventures to come.

    I have Altai Hok skis and I love them. And you don't need to live in the mountains to use them. l live in the prairies and they are the perfect ski for tramping around the farm or acreage. I actually ski most often in larger city parks and golf courses. No groomed trails needed! Make your own trails.

    Great video! I've had the Kar 147 UC made by OAC and now I'm thinking about buying the XCD GT 160 model. What made me choose them over Altais, is that they have more gliding surface in them (shorter mohair skins), so they are faster on even ground and downhills. Haven't tried Altais, Im sure they are awesome as well! I wish you guys get lots of snow this winter!

    Nice vid sepp. I've just got back from skiing in Hemsedal Norway. The Altai skis are not actually for skiing though are they? Could you damage an ankle in these skis. I noticed that the bindings lock your feet in, and there is no release mechanism in case of a fall.

    Dudes, First of all you guys don't know basic high school geography -- Altai is a part of Russian Siberia. Haven't you read it on company web-site? Chinese have nothing to do with this design as it is a part of whole Siberian nations culture! And original skies covered with moose or horse skin material and are still produced in Russia for example -- Company "Poskryakov". Before making review do some research -- it is very easy to do nowdays on Internet!

    • @susannewilliams
      @susannewilliams 6 лет назад +1

      DuStKalle - Actually the Altai mountains also include areas of china. Have a look at the map. More importantly have a read of the book called Two Planks and a Passion by Roland Huntsford. It describes in detail the archeological and literary history of skiing and skis. You will find that in the time when skis were invented they were widespread across snow-carrying tundra regions including much of what is now the Altai mountains. Altai people do not much care what you call them. Have a look at some of the footage in the various documentary films. Skiing is not something I think should be polluted by politics.

    • @DuStKalle
      @DuStKalle 6 лет назад +1

      Well I kind of agree that siberian nations do not belong per se to China or Russia. But Siberia was a part of Russian Empire for centuries and never part of China Empire. Therefore as a matter of fact if you talk to russian people especially in Siberia they would instantly recognize those skies but if you would talk to REAL Chinese (not those nations which happen to live in northern outskirts of China) they wold have no clue what you are talking about. Russians did not invent those skies but it is part of their culture. Chinese did not invent those skies and it is not part of their culture. If you talk about fairly resent history (not archaeological) those people were part of russian empire and a great deal Siberian russian culture. I do not know Chinese language but just challenge you to find those skies sold on internet on Chinese web site while on russian sites it is a matter of common knowledge. It is not politics. If you want to refer people to ski culture in modern history you must give them right reference. Otherwise they would try to find those skies used by Chinese in vain.
