Have a friend who's a massive Nintendo Fanboy and he's really butthurt and negative towards the Steam Deck. He's been hyping the Switch like it's the 2nd coming of Christ due to portable gaming, but he's been bashing the Steam Deck non stop and being unusually aggressive and sarcastic towards people who are excited about the Steam Deck.

I'm sitting here with my 200 steam games, and wondering what the guy is talking about. While I have 9 switch lite games, soon to be 11 when the 2 new pokemon's come out. I got the switch and the 3ds just to play pokemon, and I'm fine with that because I know how many hours I will play the game for. The steam deck on the other hand comes with a library of games 20 times larger for a casual like me.
@@joshuaireland8221 You won't get a switch emulator for the steam deck because Nintendo cracks down on current gen emulation. It is the only way to play a number of old game cube, gameboy, and N64, or wii games.

Most probably. You can download windows on to it. Gamepass will work anyways. I'm downloading windows. To me it's a portable PC. I need windows for that.
I just hope this means we get some serious competition. Imagine for the same price, but you get 8 cores 16 threads and stronger graphics. With 5NM especially if they are using EUV it could be viable. The future is what I am most excited about.
We won't be getting $200 GPU in near future so I hope APUs will replace this market niche. If PC handhelds become mainstream, APUs will become more powerful and cheaper due to competition.

Unless you are playing games with lots of shadows/dull themed, like Limbo, you won't get noticeable Battery life. Its more noticeable on phones because more apps adopt dark mode hence black is a much more occurring colour thus the savings
I'm still baffled as to why it keeps getting labled as a competitor to the Switch. One is a gaming PC the other is a video game console. The only real comparison is the form factor. I own a Switch. I will be getting a Steam Deck.

A portable PC would be a competitor for handheld gaming console. Because the switch is right now, the most popular option for gaming on the go and the steam deck is going to be a new and more powerful option, of course they are going to compete. They are both portable options that you game on. Just because one is a console and one is a PC doesnt change that.

If you need a portable workstation and also a portable gaming device, gaming laptops are a reasonable middle ground, but if you want to game comfortably away from a table you'll still get a Deck. If you use stationary workstation and want to game on the go, the Deck would be the best solution, especially if you can use it as a replacement for your stationary workstations by docking it to a mouse, keyboard, and display.
There was a time when Samsung tested out a niche product. It was the Samsung Galaxy Note. 5.3 inch screen shipped with Android 2.3 and upgradeable to Android 4.0. That was doomed by many 'surveys' and 'reviewers' at the time for being too big. Some things as stated in this video truly can grow into a mainstream thing.
Well we need to acknowledge that phones and portable gaming handhelds are different markets. People expect to comfortably fit their phone in their pocket and hold it in one hand. Handheld gaming consoles don't really have the restriction of fitting inside a pocket and instead have the limitation of being able to fit inside a bag and we expect to be able to hold thrm with both hands instead of just one. The different requirements of each market can make the product excel in one while absolutely failing in another.
Sega Mega Drive collection allows modding therefore the steam deck has Mario. There's also emulators but little Timmy's mom probably won't be able to figure out how to do that.

@SK-HYJINX This thing runs on an APU... not traditionally emulator powerhouses. Those things rely on ram which is why this is getting sported with those 5500 ddr5s, but emulators require raw CPU power which this doesn't really have. So I'm not gonna discount it could run Yuzu, but those expecting it to be able to emulate "a bunch" of Switch games right off the bat will likely be pretty disapointed in my humble opinion.

I would have never said the Steam Deck would fail but the idea that it’d kill the Switch was always ridiculous. It sold a million units in one year which I know isn’t a failure but the Switch sold 13 times that and the failure Wii U sold 3 times that. I know the Steam Deck costs more but if I’m not mistaken isn’t valve selling them at a loss? Again I know the goal was never to sell over 130 million units but my point is that it was never gonna hurt the Switch without exclusives. Not Steam exclusives but Steam Deck exclusives that force you to buy the hardware.
well there were a lot of portable gaming devices that failed, in fact basically all did except for the switch, nvidia shield, gdp win, ayaneo, ps vita although the psp did great so winning in the handheld market isn't impossible

They use old hardware to keep the price lower. And they're good at making good looking games on relatively underpowered hardware. They're in a good spot right now.

@@B1ASJ3ST3R it's the best option, or the 256 one with an SD card, so when you want a new game you transfer it from the SD to the main storage and vice versa, but the most vfm is the 512, but again, ~12 months is a generous timeframe I hope you find a job that pays well

@@ethan-fel it's still a drop in the bucket compared to Steam, the Steamdeck will have access to a monstrous number of games on day one, and people who already use steam will already have games to play. In my case that's over 150+ games including Halo MCC, Horizon Zero Dawn, No Man's Sky, Fallout 3/New Vegas/4, Mass Effect, and all the Half Life games, the hardest part of getting games on the Steamdeck is going to be picking what I install first. I only ever had about 5 games for the switch because each game cost nearly 80$ each here in Canada and never really found that many Switch games that appealed to me enough to legitimize that cost.
Oh... Too bad the Steam Deck will run Nintendo exclusives even better than a Nintendo console thanks to emulators. These Low IQ Nintendo Fanboys are getting even more ridiculous by exposing themselves.

@@erythsea there is, but Yuzu requires more serious hardware than this. It's still fairly new. You should be able to run Cemu on this (WiiU emulator). Dolphin will run no problem, either (Wii and Gamecube).
I have one too. Don't see how it can fail it Sean's to know who it's targeting. And plus this would beat taking my laptop everywhere with ms on my business trips. This is perfect and my library is accessible still.

Whereby, I wouldn't necessarily cop a deck beforehand, not knowing the challenges and drawbacks it can come with. If I wasn't already into PC gaming, I would've order the deck for Christmas right away. I'm gonna give it some time to see how well (or horribly) it pans out. As someone with a 'gaming' laptop, I'm going to love the steam deck (-pal was a better name). Also got in on the first wave of reservations for the 512gb model.

I can't imagine a world where the Steam Deck fails especially after seeing the reservation numbers. You're getting a fully functional, portable Gaming PC capable of playing AAA titles, Emulation, Modding, etc for a literal steal of a price considering the current market.
Personally I would still rather my laptop for the extra performance. The smaller form factor isn't as big of a deal for me. It's a cool product, but not for me.
People will realise how usefull this thing will be when they stream their PC on this. I use a modded vita and moonlight(nividia shield) and its damned good. I Cant wait to get my hands on this it will be like a BEEFY UPGRADE!

@@Boomtox always depends. ofc, when you play a multiplayer shooter , the fraction of a second of lag that you get, might hurt you massively, however when you play something like cpu intense strategy games, like half of the paradox catalog, naming Hearts of Iron or Stellaris, you might want to get every bit of performance you can have, to run the game fast as long as possible.
I'd like to see this succeed but I have doubts. It'll have pretty pretty serious competition from x cloud, which costs nothing if you've got game pass and a phone.

Unless you are playing games with lots of shadows/dull themed, like Limbo, you won't get noticeable Battery life.

A portable PC would be a competitor for handheld gaming console. Because the switch is right now, the most popular option for gaming on the go and the steam deck is going to be a new and more powerful option, of course they are going to compete. They are both portable options that you game on. Just because one is a console and one is a PC doesnt change that.

If you need a portable workstation and also a portable gaming device, gaming laptops are a reasonable middle ground, but if you want to game comfortably away from a table you'll still get a Deck.
If you use stationary workstation and want to game on the go, the Deck would be the best solution, especially if you can use it as a replacement for your stationary workstations by docking it to a mouse, keyboard, and display.

Well we need to acknowledge that phones and portable gaming handhelds are different markets. People expect to comfortably fit their phone in their pocket and hold it in one hand. Handheld gaming consoles don't really have the restriction of fitting inside a pocket and instead have the limitation of being able to fit inside a bag and we expect to be able to hold thrm with both hands instead of just one.
The different requirements of each market can make the product excel in one while absolutely failing in another.
Sega Mega Drive collection allows modding therefore the steam deck has Mario. There's also emulators but little Timmy's mom probably won't be able to figure out how to do that.

@SK-HYJINX This thing runs on an APU... not traditionally emulator powerhouses. Those things rely on ram which is why this is getting sported with those 5500 ddr5s, but emulators require raw CPU power which this doesn't really have. So I'm not gonna discount it could run Yuzu, but those expecting it to be able to emulate "a bunch" of Switch games right off the bat will likely be pretty disapointed in my humble opinion.

I would have never said the Steam Deck would fail but the idea that it’d kill the Switch was always ridiculous. It sold a million units in one year which I know isn’t a failure but the Switch sold 13 times that and the failure Wii U sold 3 times that. I know the Steam Deck costs more but if I’m not mistaken isn’t valve selling them at a loss?
Again I know the goal was never to sell over 130 million units but my point is that it was never gonna hurt the Switch without exclusives. Not Steam exclusives but Steam Deck exclusives that force you to buy the hardware.

They use old hardware to keep the price lower. And they're good at making good looking games on relatively underpowered hardware. They're in a good spot right now.

@@ethan-fel it's still a drop in the bucket compared to Steam, the Steamdeck will have access to a monstrous number of games on day one, and people who already use steam will already have games to play.
In my case that's over 150+ games including Halo MCC, Horizon Zero Dawn, No Man's Sky, Fallout 3/New Vegas/4, Mass Effect, and all the Half Life games, the hardest part of getting games on the Steamdeck is going to be picking what I install first.
I only ever had about 5 games for the switch because each game cost nearly 80$ each here in Canada and never really found that many Switch games that appealed to me enough to legitimize that cost.
OLED is also still not good for longevity, there's an Organic component that decays much faster than other forms of LED screens, anyway.

You should be able to run Cemu on this (WiiU emulator). Dolphin will run no problem, either (Wii and Gamecube).
The only thing you really lose is multiplayer on switch games.... if you need that.

@@elevate7985 Mind you, I have no problem with the switch nor the deck. I'd cop a switch for the sake of its exclusivity (games like Mario & Zelda). Whereby, I wouldn't necessarily cop a deck beforehand, not knowing the challenges and drawbacks it can come with.
If I wasn't already into PC gaming, I would've order the deck for Christmas right away. I'm gonna give it some time to see how well (or horribly) it pans out.
BTW, I watched some of the guys content, his content is actually pretty funny. 👍🏾

As someone with a 'gaming' laptop, I'm going to love the steam deck (-pal was a better name). Also got in on the first wave of reservations for the 512gb model.

Steam made it so for you to buy it you needed to have a steam account prior to June 2021 , helping to filter a ton of quick interest scalpers

I can't imagine a world where the Steam Deck fails especially after seeing the reservation numbers.
You're getting a fully functional, portable Gaming PC capable of playing AAA titles, Emulation, Modding, etc for a literal steal of a price considering the current market.
Personally I would still rather my laptop for the extra performance. The smaller form factor isn't as big of a deal for me. It's a cool product, but not for me.

People will realise how usefull this thing will be when they stream their PC on this. I use a modded vita and moonlight(nividia shield) and its damned good. I Cant wait to get my hands on this it will be like a BEEFY UPGRADE!
why would you have to stream your pc onto it when you can just natively play the games tho

@@Boomtox basically what ever games you cant really run off the steam deck efficiently / at all youd run off your PC. it also saves you from having to buy the increased storage models of the steam deck
@@Boomtox always depends. ofc, when you play a multiplayer shooter , the fraction of a second of lag that you get, might hurt you massively, however when you play something like cpu intense strategy games, like half of the paradox catalog, naming Hearts of Iron or Stellaris, you might want to get every bit of performance you can have, to run the game fast as long as possible.

Nintendo effed up bumping the switch oled to $350 just in time for the base steam deck to be offered at $400. I think it looks prettyyyy bad.
I'd like to see this succeed but I have doubts. It'll have pretty pretty serious competition from x cloud, which costs nothing if you've got game pass and a phone.

I own an Xbox One and PS4 and I think this is fricking awesome. Definitely going to get one of these at some point down the line, not immediately because I want to see it’s reception and they will probably be sold out anyway.

He also needs to stop crying, to me the Valve Index and Nintendo switch are completely different products aimed at a different demographic, I highly doubt either product will loses many sales because of the other so his precious Switch will be just fine.

As much as I like the Switch, I hope the Steam Deck does well. I might even get one if it ends up being good. It'd be nice to play stronger games that I couldn't play on my Switch.
