Totally agree. I remember walking to Albertsons to rent a game. Albertsons wasn't known for their game rentals, but they had this, and me a my friend stayed up all weekend playing it. Good times.
I loved this game the only thing i didnt like as a kid was the lack of direction. It felt so expansive and freeform. Some of the things required to be done are arcane. It's a much more pleasant experience now.
All time classic for me. Loved playing this growing up, I usually do a run or two every year. I also had Faxanadu but Olympus is the best of the two imo. It was more challenging to figure out and the fighting is harder, plus the hints you gather make sense, are well translated and can be pieced together to advance.
I remember my dad buying this game from the shopping channel. It was awesome. My only real gripe was collecting olives. I used to hook up the "NES Advantage" controller put it on turbo, and then leave a weight on it, then go to sleep. In the morning I would have 99 olives!
It's one of my favourites - love the graphics - but in true nes fashion so hard. Found the navigation confusing though, things like going through a tree taking you to another island. Never got far but my brother finished it way back then
For '89, the graphics are very good. The sprites and locales have a great amount of detail. Lots of dithering to give the Illusion of more colors as well as some nice gradient effects.
It's one of my first Nes games, I never managed to get far because I don't understand English. The password is huge and if you make a mistake even once you're a failure, tough!
The navigation in this game was very counterintuitive. It's like, if you're in Texas and want to go to Canada, you need to travel to a trailer in the desert, which brings you to Utah where you have to enter an old lady's garden shed, which leads to Idaho where you have to wander into a field to find an outhouse that finally brings you to Canada. Forget using roads, because them's for suckers
I think of The Battle of Olympus as one of the NES's best unsung classics. How about you guys?
I remember playing this game for hours and hours. Definitely an enjoyable time!
This is my absolute favorite game. I wish someone would remake it for modern consoles.
It's a good Zelda 2 clone. And *WAY* better than Castlevania 2, in my opinion.

It's up there with Guardian Legend and Faxanadu as one of my favorite NES games that never really gets talked about
NC back at it with another one of my childhood favorite games of frustration!! You're a beast for this one! You dropped this 🤏👑
Haha why ty 🫅
Definitely need a remake/remaster, I absolutely loved this game. Like Zelda II almost but with Greek mythology
I always felt this game like a sequel or spin off of the legend of zelda 2, playably they are almost identical
and Kid Icarus!

I love this game so much. The graphics, the music... It really is a masterpiece.
Quite possibly the hardest password system in history.
All time classic for me. Loved playing this growing up, I usually do a run or two every year.

On my all time favorites list, there was just something about this one that I absolutely loved
I absolutely loved this game as a child.
This looks like a fusion of Kid Icarus and Zelda 2.
I was thinking just that! Sounds like it too.
Looks like the same game engine. Quite a few games have used this game engine.
My mom got me this off the home shopping channel. Hardest game I ever won.

I got it from the shopping channel too. I was too young to figure this damn game out.
This and Timelord were my favourite NES games growing up
Time Lord was great! Except for the salty Mexican boss guy. That fight really sucked.
After watching this I’ve got to say your skills are just next level! Well done
It's one of my favourites - love the graphics - but in true nes fashion so hard. Found the navigation confusing though, things like going through a tree taking you to another island. Never got far but my brother finished it way back then
There were so many good games swept under the rug during the NES era that deserve more attention.
Top 10 games of all the time. One of the best in my childhood
Thanks for going through this, I loved this game and am playing it now. I am just trying to figure out what I am missing to complete it.
For '89, the graphics are very good. The sprites and locales have a great amount of detail. Lots of dithering to give the Illusion of more colors as well as some nice gradient effects.
I even do transform into "Sir Cry a Lot" with Save-State :-) But absolutely awesome!
It's one of my first Nes games, I never managed to get far because I don't understand English. The password is huge and if you make a mistake even once you're a failure, tough!
Insane graphics for the nes
Finished it today! ✔️ A hard game where almost every enemy can kill you. 😅 But a very nice story and open world
DES SUPER SOUVENIRS AVEC CE JEUX 😀😉😍👍👍👍👍
Wow! I’ve never heard of or seen this game before! This looks like something would have been enjoyed in my household back in the 80’s 🤩 this looks fun
Ancient Greece sure had one of the worst snake/scorpion/slime infestations I’ve ever seen!
That's why they needed so many hero's there 😂😂
Loved this game as a kid, but it always felt like I was on skates 😂
So the default name of the main character is Orpheus?
Looks to be a great game, but that soundtrack can sure grate after awhile. Sounds like a Master System game almost
I used to love this game! Wow, never realized how close to Zelda 2 it is, like almost identical. Wish they would put it on the Switch arcade.
Awesome👍I still can't make it past Crete and I've been playing a long time lol still love this game though
The good old days👍
11/10 💎
Thanks. I haven't seen this game b4
Sitting here eating olives watching this.🫒
Zelda 2 ❤ Castlevania 2 ❤ battle of olympus ❤
This game was better than Zelda 2. Yeah…I said it!
I totally agree!

that Greek sea shanty bop tho
Very good game 😊
I guess there's not enough room for Orpheus & Eurydice as the names?
Yup, the limit is 6 characters per name
私はZelda2が好きなので、似てるこのゲームも好きでした。
Indeed, looks a lot like Zelda 2.
I thought orpheus was a musician, not a warrior.
I saw a movie called The giants of Thessaly in which he was from Sparta and also a fighter 🤨
Yeas
WHAT ARE THOSE PURPLE WORMS FALLING FROM TREES
Solid run, thanks for the video!
p.s. I recently made a rando hack if you're interested btw.
Nice the game
Well I never played this before i know I’ll struggle allot like always
Toccata and Fugue for meeting Zeus?
What's the point of pausing every time you get a new item? What is that supposed to be for?
Just to show the item in the inventory
I thought it was going to be like Zelda 2 because the character looks so much like Link. Couldn't get into it👎
nes kratos
God of war
Anyone who thinks this game has a non-punitive attitude towards death has never tried to save to 80 olives 🫒
