  • Hello, I am Dr. Kiran Silwal, and I am from Sikkim. I completed my MCh from King George's Medical University in 2021 and continued working there for an additional two years. My passion has always been aesthetic surgery, and I was on the lookout for a fellowship in this field. With glowing recommendations from my colleagues and seniors, I decided to come to Chennai for my training in plastic surgery. Initially, I had some reservations about moving to Chennai, but once I arrived, the warm welcome from the staff and Dr. Karthik himself made me feel at home. The friendly environment helped me adapt quickly in just a few days.
Regarding the fellowship at Chennai Plastic Surgery, our day starts early, around 6:00 a.m. Initially, waking up early was a challenge for me, but I’ve grown to appreciate the early start. It allows us ample time for patient follow-ups, and many of our patients can be discharged by evening. We begin the day with patient markings and photography from 6:00 to 7:30 a.m. We then proceed to the operation theatre to start the surgeries.
The most common procedures we perform include gynecomastia surgeries, which we handle in large volumes, and body contouring procedures such as liposuction of the chest, abdomen, upper back, lower back, and thighs, along with fat transfers for the face. Other frequent procedures include blepharoplasty, facelifts, neck lifts, brow lifts, and rhinoplasty, as well as breast augmentations, reductions, and abdominoplasties.
In the operation theater, Dr. Karthik is incredibly supportive. He guides us through each procedure, clarifying doubts and ensuring we understand both what to do and what to avoid. We get the opportunity to assist and even perform surgeries under his supervision. Our cases usually conclude by 11:00 a.m., followed by the afternoon outpatient department (OPD) sessions, a lunch break, and then evening OPD, wrapping up the day around 5:30 to 6:00 p.m.
Dr. Karthik is an exceptional mentor and a wonderful person. He is always approachable and treats us like colleagues, making the environment very conducive to learning. We plan cases together, and he provides us with articles, e-books, and textbooks to enhance our understanding. We also have journal presentations and occasional seminars to enrich our academic experience. Dr. Karthik guides us on patient management, including handling challenging cases and effectively communicating with patients about every detail.
By the end of my fellowship, I can confidently say that I am proficient in all the procedures I have been trained in. The entire staff, including the OT staff, nurses, and technicians, are very knowledgeable and supportive, always ready to help us with any queries.
The new center in ECR, located near the beach, is a beautiful place, offering us a serene environment to relax occasionally. My overall experience at Chennai Plastic Surgery has been nothing short of amazing. I am deeply grateful to Dr. Karthik and the entire CPS team for making my fellowship journey so memorable and enriching.
