I hope you enjoy :)
Just don't take that much on explain things, as long as you have really right thoughts or aesthetic dissertations about the track the tutorial became so tedious because of it. Please be more dynamic.
This channel is brilliant. Burial, Jamie XX, Bonobo. Some of my fav artists.
Best production tutorial I've ever seen. Thank you for sharing some incredible wisdom behind the production process and breaking it down beautifully.
Thank you!
I rarely compliment for tutorials but wow this one was very spot on and informative. Glad you mentioned things while explaining how they work but also how you can make them "yours"
Love how broad and concise this was...killer tutorial. A few suggestions for the future: Massive Attack, David August, Jon Hopkins, Mount Kimbie, Todd Terje, and Tim Hecker
!!!
Todd Terje is a little out of his (BbV) scope, isn't it? Most of his tutorials are in the alternative beats/left field electronica realm (but I would be absolutely delighted to see an in-depth tutorial about Terje)
Indeed, but suggesting won't harm. Maybe he also happens to dig Terje and this could trigger.
Have you seen the Point Blank ones? Ski did 2 desconstructions of some classic Terje. The tutorials are a little superficial but he does manage to give 2 or 3 good insights about his style
I'll look them up...thanks for the tip
This is the first of your videos I've seen and got to say it's the best I've seen from all the tutorial, breakdown, production vids out there. You know your stuff and have got some real talent. Look forward to watching many more. Inspiring. Respect 👊🏼
I truly appreciate the kind words brother! I'm also glad you're enjoying them :)
Great vid Vanity as always. Your analyses is on point and the length of your vids are perfect 👌🏾
Thanks :) Wasn't sure if 20 minutes was too long, seems to be working though.
Exhale is such an amazingly creative plugin! Great tutorial that doesn't take its viewers for complete beginners, keep up the good work, becaus I learn a lot from your videos!
Man, this is honestly such a nice tutorial, i'm not a producer myself, i'm a drummer / percussionist but hearing you speak and work on this is rather interesting.
This was insane, good work on this track it sounded really similar which I didnt think possible
Really good video mate I love bonobo, one of the reasons I want to further my producing, thanks for the vid!
This is actually a good tutorial to sounding like Lapalux - The Hours
Thank you so much for this ! great work
amazing clear and concise teaching! thanks bro
Hey so I just found this but pretty bummed you didn't list all of the plugins you were using in the description. Now I gotta rewatch this and try to find them all. Would be super helpful for you to at least list the names in the comments. Thx, great tut!
2013 I think Kiara was my most played song on spotify, but yall you gotta be listening 2 it with the prelude aswell! Video be like a small goldmine as always. Thanks alot m8!
For sure, absolutely love Kiara, that whole album too really.
Do you know more in depth what frequencies the Stereo-Width enhances? Is it just everything above the mono maker or some more magic 2 that knob? I havnt tried Bx-Control.
U dont have a lot of crazy processing within ur tracks but it sounds gr8. Will you ever make a video going over your mixing / processing philosophy you've developed? Im sure others will be interested aswell. Keep it up, ur quality is A+.
Thank you! That's a great idea, hadn't thought of it to be honest. I'll add it to my list as it would make for a dope tutorial.
Keep up the good work, your channel should expand quickly at this pace
Fingers crossed, thank you!
Suggestion: Boards of Canada?
excellent videos. one of the best channels out there.
Damn, thank you, I appreciate that!
Brilliant mixing in this tutorial. I purchased the soundpack, which samples are you using exactly for the drums?
What an absolute gem of a channel. You heard of Globular?
I haven’t!
I actually watched the entire video. Just bought the soundpack, too. Good talk and format and also pacing. Would love to know why you use so much on your master channel? Having heard that keeping nothing but limiter on master is the best method and addressing sound issues at the individual track level. How do those VST's handle on processing?
In the newer videos I stick to just an EQ, Comp and Limiter. No issues with processing, but I guess that would depend on your computer.
Hey, thank you for these videos. I've been going through them slowly and noticed that you have some fairly consistent EQ principles that you follow particularly with the kick drums and on the master output. My question is why do you use a third party plugin for the EQ rather than EQ Eight? Do you find that the plugin you're using makes a noticeable difference versus the stock EQ plugin? Again, thanks and keep em coming!
Hey man,
Great video! I really like your pace, tone and articulation. It "cuts through" my brain well.
Can you tell us a bit more about that long melodic ambient sample you've got? I feel like that's the key to this track and finding sounds like that can help one stand out. Personally, I've found sampling ambient tracks as great way to find sounds like that. Can you give us any tips on how you found this or how one can find more like this?
Thanks!
All I know for 100% is that it's from an old project. My best guess would be that's it a sample from some ambient record that I was playing with, it's just titled 'Sample' so could be from anywhere. However, while sampling can be fun, I've found it to be a double edged sword. If you release a track with copyrighted content in that you do not own, you're very limited with what you can do with it. In saying that I'd never let copyright hinder creativity, but it is something to bare in mind. Use a sample as an additional sound or in creative way should always be the goal.
Another great tutorial man! much appreciated!
Thank you!
Wow, this is great. Black Sands as a whole is really good. Can you also do Four Tet, and Jon Hopkins?
For sure! Black Sands is my favorite. Four Tet would be very similar to Bonobo, the musical elements are produced in a similar process. Re-sampling synth loops/drones, and sampling weird sounds and instruments from various places.
I would love to learn how you mix your tracks. your mixing is amazing.
Thank you! A few people have also suggested this, I will be making a video on my mixing workflow just to hopefully give you all some ideas for your own :)
That would be really dope! Your channel has been an incredible source of inspiration for me :)
Did this ever happen?
How do you go about making your drone sounds? Or is that taken from a sample pack?
very helpful. Thank you man
Thanks man, good stuff
Thank you for that mate awesome job
killer..loved it..thank you
You're welcome!
Sound like you!✌🏾🔊
cool tutorial, i really like the lounge lizard. what chords is it playing? it looks like they have about 100 notes
Cool
😄
It's like poottin together a pozzle
Great tutorial, do you think you could do a episode on how to sounds like Axel Bomen?
Thank you. Perhaps, I'll let you know if it happens!
Please do a Jamie XX video! I know he uses a lot of sampling, but to get a glimpse of how his style can be re-created in Ableton would be immensely helpful!
What's the background music being used for this tutorial?
Great video keep up the good work.
I've been trying to figure out them chords on the Rhodes but it's hard with them effects over it would you mind helping me out!
I'll dig them out for you. If you don't hear from me within the week though, drop me a tweet!
Do a Submerse tutorial, kinda similar to bonobo, but with a mix of teebs in it :D
idealism I wouldn't mind seeing an Idealism tutorial either! Love your music man keep it up
Suggestion (a request rather:)): Trentemoller: take me into your skin
Stereo “wifff” 😂😂
What skin are you using?
Nice tutorial.
Thanks :)
Is the song for sell?
12:08 doesnt that sound like that one song by kodak black
Do the style of Hessle Audio or Joy Orbison!
what's the name of the software?
Ableton Live, if you mean the DAW
really dig your accent mate ,
Haha, thanks.
any chrismas deals comin up for the sample packs like buy one get one free
Sorry I'm late answering this, although no there wasn't. The sample packs were created more as a way to support the channel, so rather than just donating $20 you actually get a product in return. If there are ever any sales on, they will be announced on my Twitter - twitter.com/BeatsbyVanity.
odissee?
is this just drum samples??
The sample pack is yes.
where did you find the other samples?? great work btw
bah-nuh-bow
There is no guide for fl studio users (panic) for textural house.
The DAW doesn’t matter, the techniques can be universally applied.
This is more of a plugin publicity then a tutorial or you just don't really like Ableton Live.
I didn't know Garth Marenghi did music tutorials?
Lol, I had to Google that one.
