Funnily enough, a lot of people are saying "oh these are for kids", one of my little brothers (5) really likes Boba. When I showed him the mech and said hey this is totally in your budget you can buy this, he told me he wants the Slave 1 because the ship is cooler. Upon showing him the microfighter he once again insisted upon the big one. Kids are going to be happy with smaller things but the big ones are just so much cooler for everyone.
In other words, kids like to play with the things they actually see in the media they enjoy. Kids love speeders, walkers, tanks, and fighters because they see them in action in the movies, shows and games. Kids don’t enjoy these mechs as much because they don’t exist in the media they enjoy, they have never seen them before, and they are completely out of place in there Lego words. If it’s a choice between a random mech or a vehicle kids have seen on TV the kids will take the cool vehicle they actually saw in action.
Totally agree. I might be almost 30 now but I remember disliking gimmicks “for kids” even as a child since they weren’t as cool as seen on TV. I didn’t want my spaceship to transform into a robot even if I liked transformers, because they didn’t appear that way in the media I liked. I didn’t want my Buzz Lightyear action figure to have lightbulbs everywhere, I wanted him to look like in the movie. Etc. etc.
Was anyone ever arguing that kids don't want the big, cool toys? Surely the point of this kind of set is parents who might usually just say no for £30-40, would say yes to this?
Thank you for pointing out that future mechs should get more unique characters. I think if LEGO focused on new and unique characters not seen before or in a long time, it would spark interest in consumers/collectors. These reoccurring and common characters like Vader, who is still cool, just doesn’t get me excited. LEGO we need new and fresh characters brought to the table!
One thing that’s worth noting about Boba is that the figures arms have green gauntlets from ESB same with every other Boba with arm printing so far, whereas the mech itself has the red gauntlets from RotJ. We’ve never gotten a RotJ Boba with arm printing before so it’s a shame Lego skipped out on the perfect opportunity here when designing this set
Yeah I was really hoping it'd be a RotJ figure, especially with it being the anniversary. I managed to get the 75222 Boba pretty cheap recently so have no need for another ESB version. It's especially weird since the mech itself has RotJ colours. Fingers crossed for the UCS Sail Barge I guess.
They did that with Marvel and Wolverine was a lightning strike in a bottle. As someone who has seen this Vader in more expensive sets, this is an amazing entrypoint for kids to get a version with the arm printings. Can’t really fault LEGO on that. The Boba Fett mech looks fine and the figure looks amazing minus the lack of cloth piece. And yes, Clones like Rex, Cody and Wolffe would be amazing!
@@manuxx3543I mean Rex literally has the exact same face as all of the other clones, that’s what makes them clones. Best thing they can do is give him a different expression

The stormtrooper mech seems like something that could actually appear in Star Wars canon. Shame they couldn't stick with the previous torso and leg pribts.
Maybe a mech for a Tactical Droid could be cool and different. Or maybe even a General Grievous Mech with four arms (that can collapse into two arms like in the movie)!
I low key love the stormtrooper mech because I could imagine the stormtroopers having mechs and making a few platoons and units of mech troopers and you get some more stormtroopers so it’s a win for me. The boba fett one is obvious why people would get it (the figure)
Defintiely picking up a FEW of the Boba Fett and Stormtrooper mechs. Imagine if they made a Han Solo one with an improved version of the Betrayal at Cloud City minifig, with duel molded legs and side leg printing 😭
The idea for unique characters in mechs is a good one. But I much prefer the battle packs and blister packs. We need more minion blister packs for our hero’s to knock out and push over as they charge the villains in a grand battle
it doesn't look bad it's even nice the buildings and parts Painted unique and it looks great, a good idea would be a P2 clone Trooper standard mech or general grievieus until I found this idea interesting
Definitely getting aBoba Fett mech. If it was a bit cheaper I think the Stormtrooper mech wouldn’t be bad as part of the Imperial army in a MOC. Sure these will hit 20% then I’ll probably get at least one Stormtrooper mech and maybe Vader mech.
What I don’t understand about the Boba mech is the minifigure is from ESB (green gauntlets & green jetpack) but the mech is ROTJ (red gauntlets & blue jetpack)
I'll say the same thing I did when these were first revealed; these are very weird for Star Wars. I'm not saying they are bad sets, they don't look bad, and there's been other weird toys like these from other manufacturers of Star Wars merch, so it's not out of the question, but it's kind of the first time LEGO Star Wars has dipped their toe in this. It works for themes like Ninjago and Nexo Knights since that's part of the lore of their worlds, it even works for Marvel because comics do all sorts of things, and most of the sets are never really based on the comics anyway, they're more just ways to obtain your favorite characters in minifig form. The closest LEGO Star Wars has done that's in a similar vein are the Microfighters, which I adore. I love the Planet Sets, I was sad to see them go, but Microfighters provided a nice itch to the scratch of obtaining cool minifigs as well as smaller versions of ships I no longer have room for at larger sizes. Distorted and exaggerated as their features may be, it's still all stuff from the Galaxy Far Far Away. Mechs on the other hand, well, they do exist, but it's not like characters are jumping into bigger versions of themselves, and mechs are still fairly rare anyway because droids exist at every size you could desire. The sets look good, and I'm sure they are, but they just feel wrong for Star Wars from my perspective as a collector. If these mechs are the replacements of Microfighters, then it's been real, farewell my tiny friends, I will try not to die as I purchase the very overpriced modified N-1 as a conclusion to the line, but I will not be purchasing the mechs.
I personally will pick up the Boba fett mech because the arm printing don’t know about the others might get the darth vader one too! But overall great video
I actually don’t mind the mechs here, I think these will sell great as many kids are limited to $20 or less. But one big question that never came up, where is the Vader mech’s large cape? Vader with no cape is jarring.
It is nice that the figures are going to be cheap especially since those mini figures are usually pretty pricey usually have to pay a pretty penny for every single one of those figures and Boba Fett cheers of popular mini figure so they can be pretty expensive usually you have to pay $20 at least for one!
Personally I won’t get any because I simply prefer the 332nd battle pack since clones and army building. But for what they are and for the fans of the characters I think they are quite good 👍 my brother loves boba fett so he will pick up that FANTASTIC mini figure! I’m hoping for a Rex mech 👀 or any clone trooper really
It really sounds like these were designed by comity... As they sound good on paper but it reality they are getting amixed if not negative recaption... But you right there are reasons to like these even if the price point would have been better off as a blister pack.
Boba mech could've been great but the lack of his cape is really disappointing, especially with how expensive the old ones are now. Also, that is not an RotJ Boba. It's another ESB one.
