holy shit i can't believe i landed on this uploaded same day, just found your channel this past week been watching the shit out of these so funny, great work man!
Just to be sure you'll see this: Master channel in Reaper has mono button, but all DAW nowdays. But I noticed recently that it has a few mono models: L+R (which is default), only L or only R or L-R. So, what should I use for mixing? What mono model most modern mono systems rely on? Asking cuz if I switch to Only L model all my sound suddenly gain better mono compitability, but I don't know if that's right for best transfer to other systems. I suspect the answer is it's always left, but I want to be sure.
Stereo in analog consoles was 2 mono channels on called L outputting to the left speaker and called R outputting to the right. These are represented on reaper by the L or R mono channels. You should instead use the L+R which compacts both channels into one so everything still works clean even if you do have elements panned.
Also mono compatibility comes from not having a lot of stereo separation and effects like phaser, chorus,LFO's etc. Try to remove these before trying to mix in mono. Adding them later on is fine as long as you dont mess up the phase or add gain.
Thanks. The thing is, if I switch to Only L, is sounds cleaner than L+R to me. And also, all mono instruments and synths are usually utilizing L channel for mono, so, here comes my question =)
You would normally mix in stereo. If you're in mono it's usually to check that your mix will still work on mono systems, and then you need to use L + R, because that's what they do. This is where problems like cancellation between the two sides will show up. Only L or only R is just for listening to one side at a time, not usually something you want. It's a bit like a solo button, almost. You mention mono instruments using L, that's not really true. They just use one half of a stereo channel, it doesn't matter which. They should get panned to somewhere else in the stereo image anyways (you don't want all your mono instruments to end up in the left speaker!). L - R is also for special purposes, it sort of removes the center and lets you listen to the sides only - if you ever come across mid/side stereo that's L-R in one channel and L+R in the other, but it's not something you'd normally use. If L sounds better than L + R, that means that you have elements in L and R that cancel each other out, that's exactly the sort of problem you try to spot by listening in mono.

Nah, not narcissistic enough!
I recently graduated from university and have produced, mixed and engineered only 2 artists songs with those clients walking away happy with their mixes. and NOW finally I have came across one of these assholes... a mate referred my services to someone and my life has been hell ever since! repeating myself over and over, trying get my price as low as he could and just not listening and being a dick. I’m not sure if I should send the screenshots with his name blurred out to your studios email... but it’s stressed me out so much, I have massive respect for how you can turn these texts into something hilarious, as stressfull as they all are. -Harry
Dude I friggin love this series - absolutely brilliant. As a 20-year metal musician I have encountered some of the most mind-numbingly dumb messages from dipshits and meat-heads over the years. Expect some new submissions and keep up the great work!
Hey Glen. Love the show. Especially the way you don't pull punches. I am learning to play the bass and I get a kick out of the bass player jokes. Can't understand why others get so triggered by it but I find it hilarious so keep it up brother.
that bisexual russian guy was my favourite text of the week. pure gold. and speaking of fret buzz kid, there was this saudi sheik in the '20s who used to buy a new rolls royce every time his old one ran out of gas
New Subscriber here. Dig the channel. Very informative (I've learned a lot), and also very entertaining! Keep it up, especially with bassist digs! jaja!
Just needed to stop the video for a sec and say I love you man. You put an awesome spin on my day....
"Guitar players are intellectually superior to others in the band..." Wow, you said that without cracking, Impressive.
Guitar players think they are smart.
The drummer hit the "Crash" cymbal. WAY TO GO!!! 😂
YESSS STARTING OUT WITH THE WITCHROT STATUS!!!
i love this
I wonder if there's enough good musician texts to make a video on good/smart musicians.
Damn, Glenn. Two new videos the same fucking day. Didn't expect that. You must have a lot of fucking free time. And it's good to see a new Stupid Musician Texts video.
Lets help out Glenn and Julie!
I been DYING for a new stupid musician texts. Fuck yes keep up the awesome shit glen!
Ahh, the caption contest...
"Maybe if I cover the mic, no one will know I'm just burping the alphabet"
love the dialogues clearly recorded
by eytschpi :D
Caption: Incessantly growling into store clerk's microphone: "I wish to speak with the manageeer!"
amazing!
This is literally in my top 3 of favorite videos you make!!!
Ever notice how even the worst stand up comics can hold the mic properly?
Leaving a comment to help out with the wife situation. Love ya Glenn!
I remember the first one of these videos! Time flies! You’re the best, Glenn!
Dude holding the mic caption: "Photo from the recording session for the epic voice-acting at 7:00 and 8:05."
How did no one notice that the one at 6:27 was in one of the earlier episodes
